Hotel Covington

Kentucky, Deep South

The hotel

Impeccably groomed, this fashionable hotel’s accessorised with faux fur throws, dramatic feature walls, and industrial black bathroom fixtures. Taking over the century old Coppin’s Department Store, it’s also brim-full with history. Originally built thanks to John Coppin’s winning bet on an underdog horse (this is Kentucky after all), the old store was totally transformed before reopening as Hotel Covington in 2016. On the banks of Ohio River, it’s now decked out with complimentary WiFi, minibars stocked with local goodies, and chic social spaces like The Coppin’s Patio, an urban courtyard within the old department store walls that’s home to lawn games, movie screenings, and music. Other social venues include Artisan Coffee Bar, open till 2.00pm most nights; The Walk Up late-night dining window; and the glass-enclosed Coppin’s Restaurant & Bar with its exposed bricks, raw rustic décor, and all-day dining.

Spent Friday night 4/2 at hotel Covington with my spouse. It was really crowded due to a wedding at the hotel. Bar and restaurant in lobby where you check in were packed. Apparently it is a dog friendly as there were a couple dogs inside at the bar. 10-10:45pm that night there was a dog barking non stop. Front desk said they were sorry but couldn’t do anything since owner was not in room. Offered breakfast and change of rooms. Considering we were already unpacked and in bed, we stayed put. Between 12:30-2pm and 8-9am crazy loud wedding guests in hallway . Just realize this is a wedding venue, the venue is just off of the restaurant/bar. Guests with dogs should have their own wing of rooms, away from others. Seems pretty simple. Make sure to ask if there is a wedding and ask for a different floor. Would not return since there are so many other options, even 10 min away in Cincinnati. Covington is a cool little place with great restaurants and worth the visit. Looking for a quiet night this isn’t the place or maybe only stay mon-Thursday. Read less

This historic old building has been beautifully renovated, the lobby, the bar and restaurant on the ground floor are amazing and the rooms are very, very nice. On Friday and Saturday night the whole place was jamming and had such a cool vibe to it .We were very impressed with this whole section of downtown Covington, all of the beautiful old historic buildings are being renovated into very hip bars, hotels and restaurants and shops. It felt like a very safe and clean area to adventure around. The people at the hotel were wonderful, they went above and beyond to make sure you were happy and taken care of. A special shout out to Ben and Brittany at the front desk and Edward the valet, you helped make our stay extra special. Also, we had brunch Sunday morning at Coppins, the food was very good and faily priced. If we ever need to stay in the Cincy area again, this is definitely our first choice. Keep up the good work! We checked into room 208 - across from the elevators and directly above the bar, so not the quietest of rooms, but comfortable nonetheless. We had dinner onsite (separate review), enjoyed a few minutes near the outside fireplace, then walked down to the Main Street and local park (both about 6 blocks from the hotel...nice short walk even with temperatures in the teens). We returned to the hotel for a comfortable evening. We opted for the bed and breakfast option. With breakfast not starting until 1000 and us having lunch reservations in Liberty Township at noon, we used the grab and go breakfast (warmed breakfast sandwich and orange juice). A relaxing, comfortable weekend. Read less

I go to Hotel Covington when I travel and find the place charming both inside and out. The rooms are exceptional, wine list extraordinary, and the restaurant is excellent. Highly recommend this place!!
