The Brown Hotel

Louisville, Kentucky

The hotel

This self-coined ‘Louisville legend’ promises all the old-world Southern splendour you came for, with a beautifully restored Rooftop Garden offering some of the best skyline views of Louisville. The Brown Hotel has been attracting the ‘it crowd’ for almost a century now, many turning up just for its ‘Hot Brown’ sandwich. Created as a late-night treat for dinner dance guests in the 1920s, it’s been raved about everywhere from the New York Times to TV’s Man v Food. In fact, it’s so good, it’s available in all its eateries, featuring alongside The English Grill’s fine dining-meets-Kentucky dishes; J Graham’s Café’s casual fare; and the Lobby Bar’s treats like lobster ‘mac and cheese’. Before leaving (or better still the second you arrive), try its bourbon cocktails too; you are in Kentucky after all.

She greeted me each time I saw her, made sure the room cleaning did everything I wanted. The valet staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially when, at the last minute, I needed to move up my airport shuttle time. Our room was great as always. Very comfortable and so well appointed. Food was the best in Grahams as well as the banquets. (Is there a New chef?) A little attention to how to serve would be in order?

Been staying here since 2009 for two meetings a year. Feel like part of a family and am treated as such. Everyone is so courteous, from the minute you pull up to the valet stand, through the front desk, the bar, and house staff. Some have been there as long as we have been coming and always recognize us. We always loking forward to coming back!

Such a wonderful old hotel in Louisville that has been carefully maintained but also updated. Surprisingly large rooms and bathrooms that are well appointed. Perfect location with so many restaurants, bars, sights and activities easily walkable. High level of service from the desk to the van driver. We will definitely be back!

The Brown Hotel interior is a wonder to behold. We loved sitting in the bar area, gazing at the beauties of the decor. Next time we want to eat in the English Grill and/or at one of the tables on the mezzanine. The room was comfortable, clean, spacious and affordable. High recommendation.
