The Brown Hotel

Louisville, Kentucky

The hotel

This self-coined ‘Louisville legend’ promises all the old-world Southern charm you came for, and the modern luxuries you need, like complimentary WiFi and airport transfers. Right opposite Brown Theatre, it’s been attracting the ‘it crowd’ for almost a century now, many turning up just for its ‘Hot Brown’ sandwich. Created as a late-night treat for dinner dance guests in the 1920s, it’s been raved about everywhere from the New York Times to TV’s Man v Food. In fact, it’s so good, it’s available in all its eateries, featuring alongside The English Grill’s fine dining-meets-Kentucky dishes; J Graham’s Café’s casual fare; and the Lobby Bar’s treats like lobster ‘mac and cheese’. Before leaving (or better still the second you arrive), try its bourbon cocktails too; you are in Kentucky after all.

They sat us in the private room off to the side, which was amazing! Of course we had to get the hot brown, and I can’t say enough how delightful it truly was! The turkey was so juicy and that cheese sauce was the best I’ve ever had. We had a couple rounds of shots, and Stevie went above and beyond trying to find Jagermeister for us but sadly you didn’t carry it. She suggested also trying the mint julep so of course we did! I don’t think our visit would have been half as fun if we had gotten any other sever. She gave us a history lesson on the hotel and hot brown. She was so delightful we invited her to join camp next year! Our camp runs about 100 or more people and we will definitely be making it a point to tell everyone about our experience here. Everything from start to finish was great, and I’ve never seen staff as pleasant as yours. Thank you for a great end to our long weekend and thank you to Stevie for such AMAZING service! Read less

We picked The Brown Hotel for our last night on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail hoping it would punctuate a great experience and we were rewarded with a delightful stay to cap our journey. The property is indeed a classic hotel that has been restored and maintained beautifully...very comfortable, beautifully decorated, and welcoming guest rooms. We were delighted to be upgraded to a superior room upon check-in. Met two couples in the Lobby Bar where we spent a delightful evening enjoying wine/cocktails, a delicious light dinner, and the accompaniment of a pianist playing in the back ground. We were impeccably served by "Melissa" - a charming, delightful and efficient young lady. Frankly, she typified the staff we met throughout our stay. The food served in the Lobby Bar was exceptionally good, plentiful and fairly priced.. Their "Hot Brown" sandwich is a don't miss experience...more than enough to share with another person. They handled kitchen splits perfectly. If you are like me and frankly prefer classic hotels over the big chains, this is the place to stay when in Louisville. Read less

I gave him my bourbon flavor preferences and he gave me a bourbon that matched perfectly. I enjoyed talking with him. Stop by and enjoy a night out. Read less

My husband and I were just here for a bourbon trail tour. The Brown was a great, central location for this trip. The entire staff was helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. The hotel is old, but it was very clean. It is clear that they are working on upgrades and renovations. We would definitely stay here again.
