The Brown Hotel

Louisville, Kentucky

The hotel

This self-coined ‘Louisville legend’ promises all the old-world Southern splendour you came for, with a beautifully restored Rooftop Garden offering some of the best skyline views of Louisville. The Brown Hotel has been attracting the ‘it crowd’ for almost a century now, many turning up just for its ‘Hot Brown’ sandwich. Created as a late-night treat for dinner dance guests in the 1920s, it’s been raved about everywhere from the New York Times to TV’s Man v Food. In fact, it’s so good, it’s available in all its eateries, featuring alongside The English Grill’s fine dining-meets-Kentucky dishes; J Graham’s Café’s casual fare; and the Lobby Bar’s treats like lobster ‘mac and cheese’. Before leaving (or better still the second you arrive), try its bourbon cocktails too; you are in Kentucky after all.

We had a two day stay over New Years. This time was planned because of time off, not the Holiday. We arrived around 8pm. All dining and bar areas closed at 10pm. This was not a problem for us and judging from the number of people in those areas people were aware of the requirement. We had a king bed room. Very spacious. Loved the extra… Read more

This was not a problem for us and judging from the number of people in those areas people were aware of the requirement. We had a king bed room. Very spacious. Loved the extra large sofa. Room was spotless. The safe was great. All employees wore mask. Hand sanitizers were plentiful. We were never in an elevator with others. The elevators did have a sign limiting guests to 3 per elevator. Loved the Christmas decorations in the lobby. We had breakfast and dinner in the Lobby Bar. Both were excellent. Visited the gift shop downstairs and found several gifts for the new year. Valet staff were all friendly and made us feel welcome. All the staff really made our stay. Read less

My wife & I live near by and I surprised her with a dinner at the hotel. After briefly talking to Judd G. an employee he gave us and another couple a private tour of the hotel. Judd went above and beyond the call of duty. We had a great dinner & total experience. We will more than likely come and spend the night as a couples get away.

The Good: grand full service hotel, spacious, great service, awesome restaurants, fantastic bar The Bad: not cheap, a little worn The exterior is classic iconic old Louisville. Parking on-site is valet with a fee. The lobby is fantastic with gigantic ceilings and extraordinary detail. It was built in the 1920s and the Art Deco shows through. The front desk was quick and very courteous. Our room was very large by modern standards with a huge gorgeous bath. We also had a huge closet. The TV is large enough with easy log in for Netflix. The room was clean and well maintained in general but the occasional scratch on hardwood can be seen. Room service was excellent with huge portions. The room service coffee was actually very good. The bar was also fantastic with extraordinary takes on classics like the Old Fashioned. The price was very reasonable for a Hotel this fine. Parking is extra and a bit spendy. Service at all stages was great. The Road Word: if you are anywhere near the region go to the Brown. It’s a rare place in a commonplace world. Read less

Room Service also did a great job and the food was hot, which isnt always the case. Read less
