The Brown Hotel

Louisville, Kentucky

The hotel

This self-coined ‘Louisville legend’ promises all the old-world Southern splendour you came for, with a beautifully restored Rooftop Garden offering some of the best skyline views of Louisville. The Brown Hotel has been attracting the ‘it crowd’ for almost a century now, many turning up just for its ‘Hot Brown’ sandwich. Created as a late-night treat for dinner dance guests in the 1920s, it’s been raved about everywhere from the New York Times to TV’s Man v Food. In fact, it’s so good, it’s available in all its eateries, featuring alongside The English Grill’s fine dining-meets-Kentucky dishes; J Graham’s Café’s casual fare; and the Lobby Bar’s treats like lobster ‘mac and cheese’. Before leaving (or better still the second you arrive), try its bourbon cocktails too; you are in Kentucky after all.

The two times after the Bellman were extremely helpful, reliant, prompt, and great with suggestions for local dining. The last time we were there the management personally ensured that we had an enjoyable stay. We had a late night work delivery that was brought to our door and friendly service throughout our stay. We will be sure to visit the Brown during our next trip to KY! It’s charm is unmatched. Read less

We drive from Chicago to Florida for our 2 week vacation each year and stop by at the Brown. This time we came by on our way down and had a Hot Brown and then stayed overnight on our trip back. On the first visit we saw the place under a lot of construction with scaffolding 5 or 6 stories high. Then on our return trip it was all taken away and we could see a big change. They did some work on the exterior and it came out very nice, looks like new. We got to use the new marble showers they put in and what a difference. That was the only thing we didnt like so much in past visits, now they have very nice glassed in showers. While we always like the hotel and history and architecture, it is the people here that make the difference. They still go a great job. Yaser in the restaurant and Jason as the bellman. Even our room cleaning lady was a treat. They seem to take the Coronavirus cleaning very seriously with a lot of folks polishing the door handles and door and elevator frames. We will be back again. FANTASTIC SERVICE!!! Troy and his staff treated us like royals. It was an unplanned stop, we received the of The Hot Brown, a personal tour of the Brown Hotel and its history. One of the best services, treatment and quality food not to be missed. Make sure to put Louisville on your list of places to visit. Don't wait. Visit this year.
