The Brown Hotel

Louisville, Kentucky

The hotel

This self-coined ‘Louisville legend’ promises all the old-world Southern charm you came for, and the modern luxuries you need, like complimentary WiFi and airport transfers. Right opposite Brown Theatre, it’s been attracting the ‘it crowd’ for almost a century now, many turning up just for its ‘Hot Brown’ sandwich. Created as a late-night treat for dinner dance guests in the 1920s, it’s been raved about everywhere from the New York Times to TV’s Man v Food. In fact, it’s so good, it’s available in all its eateries, featuring alongside The English Grill’s fine dining-meets-Kentucky dishes; J Graham’s Café’s casual fare; and the Lobby Bar’s treats like lobster ‘mac and cheese’. Before leaving (or better still the second you arrive), try its bourbon cocktails too; you are in Kentucky after all.

The Brown Hotel is a Louisville landmark. It's interior is beautiful and restored in such a way that it still holds all of the old charm, but is comfortable. The lobby bar area is gorgeous, it's a great place to sit and talk and just look at the gorgeous architecture. We stayed on the Club level, but I would not recommend it. The room was great, very large. But the Club lounge is really not what we expected. It is very small, extremely quiet and stuffy, and just overall was not a good place to relax. The food (continental breakfast and appetizers during happy hour) was not good at all. It's just not worth it for just a glass or two of "free" wine and a crappy snack/breakfast. But other than that, we loved the hotel and location and would stay there again. Read less

We were there with family and they treated us so well. Doug at the bell stand was reallly helpful during our visit. Abbie at the front desk was also helpful. The lobby dining room staff were so gracious, I think it was George. We saw the hotel manager Bart several times and he was so nice. Our room cleaner was also so pleasant but I cant… Read more

A very nice historical hotel. There were historical artifacts throughout the entire hotel. Loved seeing the tables in the hallways with books for the guest reading pleasure. Staff was very friendly. It has cute little history nooks around the hotel with great stories from the past. It has old menus from the 30s with pricing from that time. Oh how prices have gone up since then. The employees were so good to interact with us and show us around. It would be hard not to like the hotel.

We stayed at the Brown for a conference. It is easy walking distance to the convention center and Fourth Street entertainment district. The staff was universally kind, pleasant and efficient. One much appreciated perk is the free airport shuttle. The workout room was entirely adequate. Very restful and relaxing stay.
