Astor Crowne Plaza

New Orleans, Louisiana

The hotel

Enjoy Louisiana hospitality at its finest at the Astor Crowne Plaza, a hotel located right in the beating heart of New Orleans. Guest rooms ensure a comfortable base from which to explore the myriad delights this city has to offer. When you’re relaxing on the premises, however, there’s a state-of-the-art gym as well as an outdoor swimming pool, perfect for cooling off in if you’re visiting in warm weather. The real jewel in the crown at the Astor though is Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House and Beyond. You’ve plenty of wonderful restaurants in the nearby vicinity but Dickie’s is not to be missed. Enjoy a rich array of tantalising Creole specialities, including freshly caught seafood, BBQ shrimp, thick steaks and decadent deserts. And rest assured, if it’s not in season, it’s not on the menu! Oysters are a house speciality, order a dozen at the bar whilst listening to the City’s best shuckers. It’s also a grand spot for a bit of ‘people watching’ with picture windows overlooking the action of Bourbon Street – fun you won’t be able to resist joining in with once dinner’s finished!

We spent two nights at the Crown Astor. While the lobby has an air of grandeur, the room looks like not much more than a budget hotel. There were stains on the carpet and lampshades (see picture…how does a lampshade get stained). And housekeeping never came to refresh our towels, make the bed, replenish toiletries, etc. The staff doesn’t sign… Read more

And housekeeping never came to refresh our towels, make the bed, replenish toiletries, etc. The staff doesn’t sign the cleaning cards, so I guess no one wants to take responsibility. I get better service at a Holiday Inn. I wouldn’t bother to spend this kind of money again on the Crown Astor. The upside is the good location, very central to the French Quarter. Read less

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Firstly the pros - location is great for Bourbon Street. The cons - my family and I stayed at this hotel for two nights in June 2021. On our second night (and the morning we were leaving) I heard our hotel door open at approximately 545am and a female voice say - oh my goodness I am so sorry and then shut the door. The next morning when my husband went to complain about what had happened he was brushed off at the front desk and told security would call him. When 'Wendell' from security finally called and asked what the problem was - my husband explained what had happened and that he would like the key logs looked at for our room from 530am - 730am that morning to see who had accessed the room (we were not sure if it was another guest or staff). Wendell's response to this was 'I don't have time for that - we are under staffed'. As you can imagine this response did not sit well with us. My husband again insisted that he investigate the situation and get back to us. Wendell called again about an hour later and then blamed the whole experience on us - telling my husband that we must have given our key to someone and 'forgotten about it' and even if someone did enter the room it was our fault because our double lock wasn't on. Again this response did not sit well with us and Wendell again said he would investigate the situation. Wendell only agreed to do this though after my husband said he would go to corporate to complain. Wendell rang us for a third time and eventually admitted that a mistake had been made on the hotels part and a duplicate key was made for the room and the room was double booked! Why this took 3 phone calls and multiple conversations with a very unhelpful employee is beyond me!! We are still waiting for the general manager to call us about this situation to rectify it over a week since we checked out. So would I recommend this hotel - NO!! Read less

Rooms are decorated nicely, BUT: City view DOES NOT mean you look down upon the Bourbon St. instead you look down at businesses roof tops. Rooms do not have refrigerators And apparently only every other room has a coffee maker. One of our rooms- same type same price- did not And most the time there is only one person working the desk, so if you have to ask a question (they don't answer their line) or get your keys re-maginigized- you're going to WAIT! Then there are hidden fees that are not on the confirmation emails or the website that I could see. They charge $60 a night for deposits on the room $50 a day if you valet park OR pay $20 a day to park at a parking garage they have 5 blocks away, in which there is another deposit to get the key that allows you to go in & out of the garage. I think for the price you pay for rooms you should get a coffee maker and a frige. I mean it's New Orleans. You want to keep your drinks cold and be able to caffeinate yourself in the morning. The only thing positive I have to say is it is in a good location in the French Quarter and the rooms are pretty. Read less

Everything about the room and the amenities (restaurant, pool, etc) was on-point. Where this property drops the ball is on their valet parking. I was told by the bell staff to call then 25 minutes before I'd want my car. No problem with that whatsoever. So, when I try calling the valet, I get an message saying that I've reached a voice mailbox which is full and which cannot accept new messages. So, I call the front desk. The woman at the front desk, instead of saying something along the lines of "Let me see if I can help you, dear guest" says "Oh, you'll have to go outside and ask them to bring your car up." Unacceptable. Why bother telling guests to call? So, I walk down to the front of the hotel and present my valet ticket. The young kid at the podium informs me that I'll have to show that to the shuttle driver. She'll call it in so they can have my car ready. Wait... a shuttle?? Turns out, the bell staff actually do very little in getting your vehicle. For $50 a night, they should be bringing my car to the front of the hotel. Period. I shouldn't have to get onto a shuttle so I can retrieve the vehicle I'm paying $50 a night to park. If you're not parking a vehicle, this is a great hotel. It's very conveniently located. But the shine of that is quickly tarnished by the fact that, so far as I can tell, they rip off their guests by having them believe cars will be retrieved for them when, in fact, the guests have to get their vehicles themselves. I see it as grossly unprofessional, certainly unethical, and quite possibly bordering on the illegal. This would have been a five star review if not for the valet situation... Read less
