Image of the Tripadvisor rating It’s a comfortable hotel

It’s clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. I had no wait at check in, or out, and the staff were friendly. As for the complaints about people on the sidewalk, it’s unfair to fault the hotel. That is public property, and it’s not at all unlike any other downtown metro area I’ve ever seen. Part of the beauty of New Orleans is the wide range… Read more

That is public property, and it’s not at all unlike any other downtown metro area I’ve ever seen. Part of the beauty of New Orleans is the wide range of interesting, colorful people that make up the city. Use common sense, and keep moving if you’re uncomfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay at the Astor Crowne Plaza, and look forward to staying again. Read less

I stayed in a room with 3 other people, and 3 of our wallets and 2 phones were stolen while we slept. The latch on the door to our room didn't engage properly, but it sounded and looked like it did. That night while we slept, a thief took advantage of the faulty door and came into our room and stole our wallets and phones. It scares me to think about what else that thief could have done to use while we were asleep, and it makes my blood boil that this thief was able to walk around the hotel checking to see if any doors were not latched. The thief has probably stolen from this hotel before because they knew that some doors don't shut all the way, so I wouldn't be surprised if they strike again. If you value your personal safety or personal property, I would NOT stay at this hotel. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Not what I expected

Where should I start? There was an old stench in the room and I looked at the vent and saw filth. The bulb was hanging out of lamp; the wrong tv remote was in my room; the phone cord was missing and nothing still hasn’t been done about it. If I needed anything, I have to go the the front desk each and every time.

I am not sure if these issues are related to COVID-19, so I am cutting them a bit of slack here. But this was a pretty miserable experience for what is supposed to be a 4 star+ better property. To begin with, the property is located right on Canal Street, with no quiet place to park or arrange check in. You have to haul your stuff into the hotel. Which normally would be no big deal, except Canal Street is now not the safest place on the planet. We were unloading a lot of luggage, and were very concerned that one of the revellers / street people hanging around may take in an interest in a lot of luggage getting unloaded. There was no front door security / bellman / doorman around to assist. The fee to park the car was $50/night, which was a bit egregious. I know that the location is right in the heart of the 'action' (which has its benefits) but the parking rate was a bit kooky considering the room was about $100. The room was an 'Alexa Suite' - which was completely windowless and cell-like. Something not disclosed on the IHG website, that one was basically booking steerage on a cruiseship. The room was adequate, pretty spacious and decently appointed, but seriously - no window? I know its a period property, but one should at least warn the renter that this has no view of any kind, and also ensure that when one enters the room and turns on the light switch, that lights come on. The light switches in the room didn't work, as all the lamps had been turned off on the base of the table lamps - so we had to grope around in the dark to find the switches to get some light. Cleanliness was in question - we found two stray bobby pins (not ours) in the carpet, found by stepping on them. Which begs the question how thoroughly the room was cleaned before we took it. Alarming in these pandemic times. In any event - its a period hotel with a lovely foyer, and a great location if you want to hit Bourbon Street (but don't mind dealing with the carnage of Canal Street and various homeless people). A lot of room for improvement. Will be choosing another option for the next stay in New Orleans. Read less

I expected better from this place based on the Hotwire pics. We started here with our 11 year old son and the room size was comfortable. If you are a clean freak, probably not the place for you. Bathroom wasn’t very clean. There are no mini fridges, coffee makers, or microwave but I was aware of this. They will not warm up your left overs. Beds… Read more

Bathroom wasn’t very clean. There are no mini fridges, coffee makers, or microwave but I was aware of this. They will not warm up your left overs. Beds were very uncomfortable so 4 nights was a struggle. Room service does not work on the weekends but towels and things are available at the front desk. Someone urinated in the ice machine room and it was not cleaned up. We told a cleaning lady about it and she laughed. There was music right outside the hotel and people dancing until after midnight. We stayed on the 3rd floor and noise was not an issue. They do enforce social distancing and masks in the building. Good luck reaching the front desk by phone. I called for 2 days prior to getting here and no answer. I called from the room and no answer. If you’re visiting to drink and party in Bourbon Street, this is a great location. There is a Willies Fried Chicken a couple buildings down. Two Walgreens and a CVC around the corner. Walking distance and center from all the activities and tours. Read less
