Astor Crowne Plaza

New Orleans, Louisiana

The hotel

Enjoy Louisiana hospitality at its finest at the Astor Crowne Plaza, a hotel located right in the beating heart of New Orleans. Guest rooms ensure a comfortable base from which to explore the myriad delights this city has to offer. When you’re relaxing on the premises, however, there’s a state-of-the-art gym as well as an outdoor swimming pool, perfect for cooling off in if you’re visiting in warm weather. The real jewel in the crown at the Astor though is Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House and Beyond. You’ve plenty of wonderful restaurants in the nearby vicinity but Dickie’s is not to be missed. Enjoy a rich array of tantalising Creole specialities, including freshly caught seafood, BBQ shrimp, thick steaks and decadent deserts. And rest assured, if it’s not in season, it’s not on the menu! Oysters are a house speciality, order a dozen at the bar whilst listening to the City’s best shuckers. It’s also a grand spot for a bit of ‘people watching’ with picture windows overlooking the action of Bourbon Street – fun you won’t be able to resist joining in with once dinner’s finished!

I stayed at this hotel for a weekend. It was a great experience. Friendly staff, nice accommodations, reasonable price. The only problem..... I stayed for 3 nights (I flew), but my friend stayed for only 2 (She drove). My credit card was charged for 3 nights of parking, even though the car was only there for 2 nights. I called immediately after noticing the charge. I was told they had to check with parking and they would call me back. I waited a week. No call back. So I called back and left a message. I waited a week. No call back. So I called for a third time and was told that she would check with accounting and call me back. I waited a week. No call back. I don’t know what else to do. I know it’s only $50, but I’m a teacher. $50 is $50. Any recommendations on what I should do next? Read less

Very nice hotel! Centrally located and accessible to trolleys, busses, Bourbon street, and French quarters. I would definitely stay there again. Shay at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and it was very clean.

NIGHTMARES DO COME TRUE AT THIS HOTEL I am a 61 year old man with 9 children and 13 grandchildren. Two sons (one still a teenager), son-in-law, grandchild and my son's father-in-law went to New Orleans to see the WWII museum. We chose the Crown Plaza because we felt that it would be safer than other hotels. I was wrong. We stayed in two rooms both on the 8th floor with access to elevator only with key card. As my son, son-in-law and I slept someone broke in and stole our cash and one credit card each. Upon discovery the next morning I reported it to the hotel. Needless to say we were very shaken and upset by the fact that someone entered our room and even more so that they took our money and credit cards. At the Crown Plaza I would have expected the management to have a procedure to handle this type of thing and someone to put us at ease and correct the situation. I was wrong again. The hotel security acknowledged that our door had been opened in the middle of the night and left open (presumably to avoid making a loud hotel door closing noise and waking them up). However, the hotel security also continued to imply that we had brought a hooker to the room. We explained that we were a family group with children who were there to go to the World War 2 museum but our explanation of that didn't result in them stopping with the prostitute angle. Rather than showing concern or being apologetic, the hotel staff lied to us about the existence of cameras, told us it wasn't their problem, demanded that we explain how the door had been opened and continued to imply it was totally our fault. We were on the 8th floor and the only way to access the 8th floor was with a keycard. I understand the implications for who it was who robbed us in the middle of the night (someone with access to key cards), and feel extremely violated to have someone come into our room and then have staff claim it was our own fault. We spent a total of 5 hours trying to get management to do something, they hadn't even taken our names or information. They suggested we file a police report which we did. The manager eventually came and talked to us and said they would review the camera footage from that floor and investigate but did not apology for the situation and continued to insist we had a visitor, demanded an explanation for the door opening from us and implied that it was our fault somehow. Later the Security man and insurance adjuster admitted that there were no security cameras on the 8th floor After the humiliating experience at the hotel, I followed up with the hotel after I arrived at home. I was questioned by both their head security man and eventually an insurance adjuster. Both insisted that it was somehow our fault. I followed up with IHG and was told to follow up with the hotel directly it was not IHG's problem. WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER. BEWARE don't stay at this hotel. This certainly seems like an inside job. Someone had a key card to get to 8th floor where they knew there were no security cameras and entered our room. It just would not have been that hard for someone to have put us at ease and corrected the situation. It was bad enough to be violated and robbed but then to have the hotel management treat us like criminals was too much. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL and know that IHG does not stand behind you if there is a problem. Read less

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of the COVID-19 situation (March 12 - 16). While the hotel room itself was big and clean, and the concierge staff very helpful, the front desk staff were useless in: (a) providing me with a discounted rate promoted on its web-site (despite my speaking with three different staff members), and (b) providing me with computer access in order to confirm/change my flight home when the computers in their business centre were not working for a whole day. Despite the urgency of the situation of Canadians needing to fly home immediately, the hotel manager refused to give me access to one of the staff's computer to simply change my flight. Moreover, this hotel frequently hosts fraternities/sororities, so there was a lot of noise within the hotel hallways - despite COVID. On the positive side, it is well-situated at the corner of Canal and Bourbon Streets - so it is within walking distance of several very good restaurants and cafes. Read less
