Hotel Monteleone

New Orleans, Louisiana

The hotel

This is not just one of New Orleans finest hotels, this is a film set – movies such as Double Jeopardy with Tommy Lee Jones and The Last Time with Michael Keaton have been filmed here. Once you’ve got over that fact, it’s time to absorb another, it has been said, time and time again, that the French Quarter begins in the lobby of the Monteleone and it truly does, capturing the very essence of what makes New Orleans so very special. A member of the Historic Hotels of America, you will adore your stay here, revelling in a grandeur only the Deep South can provide. Admire stunning views from the sundeck surrounding the rooftop swimming pool, a truly blissful place to chill out, cocktail in hand and a good book beside you. The fitness centre also boasts beautiful views, encouraging you to work that little bit harder perhaps, knowing your reward is to venture out later. At night, your starting point should be the Carousel Bar & Lounge, voted No.1 in a city that’s full of great bars, it’s been immortalised in the writings of Ernest Hemmingway amongst others. Featuring a revolving bar, crowd closer when local characters begin telling stories about this famous hotel as well as the city surrounding it.

I am a Southern at heart even though I have lived my entire life in the Midwest. I was looking through my favorite magazine, Southern Living, and saw that the Hotel Monteleone was listed as the 4th best historic hotel in the South, not a surprise at all. Many famous authors have written books in this hotel. The rooms were a wonderful throw back to yesteryear complete of course with modern conveniences. We loved eating breakfast at the Criollo restaurant. One morning, we had to go through a different entrance due to filming of an episode of NCSI. The beignets were the best I have ever eaten. The Carousel bar was definitely a fun experience. I always order the French 007. Go early before the bar opens at 11:00 if you want assure a seat at the revolving bar. We simply loved this hotel from the friendly doormen, the concierges, front desk, Criollo restaurant to the Carousel bar...and to top if off the hotel was reasonably priced! We can't wait to return!
