Hotel Monteleone

New Orleans, Louisiana

The hotel

This is not just one of New Orleans finest hotels, this is a film set – movies such as Double Jeopardy with Tommy Lee Jones and The Last Time with Michael Keaton have been filmed here. Once you’ve got over that fact, it’s time to absorb another, it has been said, time and time again, that the French Quarter begins in the lobby of the Monteleone and it truly does, capturing the very essence of what makes New Orleans so very special. A member of the Historic Hotels of America, you will adore your stay here, revelling in a grandeur only the Deep South can provide. Admire stunning views from the sundeck surrounding the rooftop swimming pool, a truly blissful place to chill out, cocktail in hand and a good book beside you. The fitness centre also boasts beautiful views, encouraging you to work that little bit harder perhaps, knowing your reward is to venture out later. At night, your starting point should be the Carousel Bar & Lounge, voted No.1 in a city that’s full of great bars, it’s been immortalised in the writings of Ernest Hemmingway amongst others. Featuring a revolving bar, crowd closer when local characters begin telling stories about this famous hotel as well as the city surrounding it.

My wife & I spent the past week in New Orleans, & we booked through Expedia. They accept pets (dogs up to 60 pounds) with a $25 per night pet fee & a one time $100 cleaning fee, but that is still cheaper than kenneling/boarding for a week. Valet parking is $45.08/night mandatory, but most everything in NOLA is either close enough to walk to… Read more

They accept pets (dogs up to 60 pounds) with a $25 per night pet fee & a one time $100 cleaning fee, but that is still cheaper than kenneling/boarding for a week. Valet parking is $45.08/night mandatory, but most everything in NOLA is either close enough to walk to within the French Quarter or a streetcar ride out to the Garden District or CBD. You can buy single/multi day passes for bus/streetcar, (which is the way to go). A one way trip is $1.25 so if you go one way & back it's $2.50 a person. A single day pass is $3 for unlimited rides for 24 hours. The hotel staff are super friendly, and while it's not cheap to stay at, the pros outweigh the cons. Location is PERFECT, and they have a restaurant downstairs for breakfast. The Carousel Bar was neat to experience, but it took us 3 days before we could finally catch it at the right time for a seat at it. It opens at 11am, and our last day in town, we noticed 4 people already waiting in line at 10:30am to get in. The earlier you can get there, the better chance you will have to experience it. Friendly bellhops & valet staff. Supposedly the "14th" floor is haunted, but we never saw anything. The view from the rooftop is incredible! Read less

Check in is at 4pm and our room was not ready till after 4:30om. We requested a room with a view when we booked our trip. Ended up in an interior room with no window. After realizing this we ask front desk to move us. They couldn’t accommodate until the next day and that we would have no problem getting into our new room. This room was a nice size, room was ok, bathroom was clean, walls were marked up and aged. The paint was dingy from age also. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and clean. No issues there. The room had one chair that looked like an archie bunker chair that needed a good cleaning. The lampshade on the desk had a rip in it. Disappointed in the ambiance of the room. Expected more...especially with the hotels history and price. Next morning we had to pack up and put our luggage in storage. Again was promised to be in our new room way before check in at 4pm. Well that didn’t happen. We had to wait in the lobby most of the afternoon. For our inconvenience we were comped two drinks in the bar. We never used them due to it always being packed. Our new room was smaller and the bathroom was tiny with the toilet right up against the sink and counter. I was afraid to leave my toothbrush on the counter near the toilet. I do have to say the staff was pleasant and their pool area was beautiful. It’s small so get up early to save yourself a spot. The location is perfect. All in all I would stay here again but I do hope they update the rooms. Read less
