Hotel Indigo Memphis

Memphis, Tennessee

The hotel

‘Walking in Memphis’ is a breeze at this music-inspired urban escape – just a stroll from the blues bars and buzz of Beale Street in one direction, and popular Memphis Cook Convention Center (under renovation until autumn 2020) in the other. There’s a real Memphis vibe here, with music-themed artwork, memorabilia from blues, rock and soul stars, and even a jukebox. The dining’s equally ‘local’, with chef Ryan Trimm creating a menu that brings together American diner influences, Southern comfort food, and locally sourced ingredients. For a fabulous finishing flourish, Hotel Indigo Memphis throws in extras like complimentary WiFi, use of the gym and a courtyard-meets-rooftop pool that’s open to the city skies.

We had attempted to stay at an AirBNB nearby but that turned out to be a huge mistake. We needed to stay super late our second day but not over night. Chris at the front desk listened to our special requests and totally took care of us. Clean room. Cool room. Great staff.

I booked 2 rooms by phone was IHG (Hotel Indego) on Saturday evening for the following night. I was very clear that the reason I was doing that was because I needed to get the rooms to be side by side. I was told they would be. We arrived 2 hours after check in. I'm not quite sure what was going on, but even though there was no wait, it took 20 minutes for us to check in. I was told to put my credit card in the machine numerous times. It appeared that a deposit had already been put on the room and she back that out. It was set up as 2 different reservations. For each room, I was informed that a $75 hold would be placed on my credit card for "incidentals." There is no mini bar in the room. Our rooms are no where even close to together. I'm talking about complete different halls. I went back down . We now move to the new rooms. This didn't work out well at all. Our tween kids were not comfortable with the situation. We ended up having to change up sleeping arrangements late in the evening. Rooms still a hall away In addition to this major issue, which was the whole reason for calling and not doing it on line, there were issues with the way the rooms were stocked. One room had no wash cloths and no remote. Both rooms were only stocked with one bar of soap. You shouldn't have to move soap from the shower to the sink. Also, both rooms were only given 2 towels. I booked the Hotel Indigo for my daughter's birthday since COVID prevented us from having an actual birthday party. First of all, when we checked in, there was a goodie bag waiting for my daughter at the front desk (I had spoken to them before booking to explain the situation). We played music on the jukebox in the lobby and had a little dance party. The hotel also called me the day of check in to let me know that the pool was closed for maintenance, but knowing that the pool was a big part of the reason we wanted to stay there, they offered me an extra late check-out so that we could swim all day!! The rooms are so clean and of course, so MEMPHIS! Really close to everything you could possibly want to do, but still quiet. I cannot recommend Hotel Indigo enough. Read less

Shelby at reception was very helpful, welcoming, and kind, and I appreciate that, esp. after a long drive. She helped me figure out the Wifi and gave me menu options for takeout, and moved me to a better room when there was an AC issue with the one I’d booked. Little touches that go a long way when you’re traveling distances and exhausted.… Read more

Highly recommend if you’re staying in or passing through Memphis. The oldtime radios were my favorite part. Read less
