The hotel

Set amongst the shaded dappled groves of Sequoia National Park, Wuksachi provides an elegant approach to accommodation with a full-range of modern fixtures and fittings to compliment the sublime surrounding scenery. Throughout the lodge you'll discover rich strains of cedar and stone which have been placed to make the most of the enchanted environment, with floor to ceiling windows and snug fireplaces maximising an array of enduring natural images. A full-service restaurant allows guests to prepare for the day ahead, or recount events during the evening, over a plate of sumptuous Sierra Alpine cuisine; and just before you hit the hay there's a handy cocktail lounge for just one last cheeky nightcap. What with all that fine food and fresh forest air, getting a good night's rest is never in doubt and thanks to a good choice of hotel standard en-suite guest rooms, there's no better place to recuperate in order to do it all again at sun rise.

- Location and vibe of the lodge is perfect within the park. - The Peak restaurant and Pizza Deck is perfect for food and drink options. - WiFi is great and if you have Verizon, you can get 5G at the lodge. - The parking lot is close enough to the housing, but the walk to the room is uphill. Luggage carts are provided, but still difficult. - The restaurants are expensive, but the food is good. You have to pay for the cost of maintaining the expenses so remotely located, which is understood. - Bring air fresheners. The room was a bit musty upon arrival, however it aired out with the window open. - Shampoo, body wash and conditioner are provided in the room. Coffee and a Keurig was in the room as well. Read less

So a couple things to keep in mind: Not only the walk from the parking lot to the room is long it is also not alll smooth and when in April can still be very snowy. This can make pushing luggage around quite challenging Also when you come in the week when the general highway is not open, consider the drive downhill takes 1hr which makes the trip… Read more

This can make pushing luggage around quite challenging Also when you come in the week when the general highway is not open, consider the drive downhill takes 1hr which makes the trip go to kings canyon 3.5 hrs each way. 2 star reduction because: The maintenance is really slow. The heater in our room broke down midnight when the temp is around 40 ish outside which makes the room super cold. We reported the second day first thing in the morning to the front desk and it’s still broken the second day when we return without any explanation. The ice machine is missing from one of the building and when we check out it appears only one of the staff knows about the it and the rest just keeps telling me it should be there. The room is large. It has a microwave and a fridge. It’s reasonably clean. Nobody is rude or anything but nobody seems to care much either. Read less

Nice large room in good location if you are entering the park from the south and driving north. We will return once Generals Highway is fully reopened (closed part way due to the record breaking snow last winter). Food was good.

It’s a lovely country lodge in the mountains- all a bit basic but very clean and we had a large room in the Sequoia building. Bear in mind you have to park and walk quite a long way to the accommodation on well kept paths and steps. We were on top floor (3rd) no lifts - so had to cart luggage and ourselves up here too. I have bad knees do was slightly difficult for me really. A lot of folk here are hikers and very fit. We were really surprised that after dinner in the main lodge we had to walk back to our block in pitch dark - there were only one or two dim lights to show the way! This seemed very dangerous - bears live here, and also trip hazards etc The food was ok - not amazing. Breakfast is not included - was 50 dollars for the two of us buffet style. Scrambled eggs were very solid and very cold ! The staff were all lovely Please also realise( which I hadn’t!) that it’s at the top of a very winding road and I was feeling overwhelmed by motion sickness in the car by the time we arrived. The General Sherman famous tree is very close by - but generally not much to do here unless you’re going to hike miles but we enjoyed a day of rest - quite high ? 7000 feet I think. Bit breathless!
