I stayed here during a recent work-trip to Detroit. My office is in the downtown/financial district, roughly a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I stayed here during a recent work-trip to Detroit. My office is in the downtown/financial district, roughly a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It offered everything I need in a work-trip hotel, and it might just be my new home base for working in Detroit. Lets start with location. The hotel is directly across the street from the GM Ren Center, so it's right in the heart of downtown. If you've got business in the area, staying here is definitely a no-brainer. It's also got direct access to a little convenience store with a totally solid selection of liquor and local craft beers (as in you can access the store without stepping outside from the hotel). Whether you need a stiff drink to help you sleep off the jet lag, or just love local craft beer like myself, this is a huge plus. Another key factor to recommend this hotel is the decent selection of food to be found within walking distance. With 15 minutes you can find yourself at a couple of legendary coney island hot dog places, a great Brazilian steak house, or a cool little German style bar. Which brings me to my final point. Let me start by stressing that this impacts ALL hotels in the area, not just the Courtyard, but this can be a huge deal for travelers staying the area. You're in the financial district. It's quite possibly one of the safest places in Detroit, but the neighborhood shuts at the end of the business day. Like a lot of places close at 6, and the neighborhood is dead by 8pm. For business travelers this is annoying, but for vacationers this would truly suck. On the plus side, Uber Eats does service the area with food from nearby neighborhoods with a later bed-time. Overall, if you're a business traveler working in the area, this is an excellent option, although it suffers from some key issues that impact all hotels in the neighborhood. If you're a vacationer who needs to stay in the area, again it's a great option, but depending on your plans you may not want to stay in this neighborhood at all. Read less

My husband and I go downtown often and we booked a room this past weekend. Do yourself a favor and book anywhere but here. Very dirty, shower didn’t drain, not updated and the staff seems absolutely miserable. Unfortunate since it’s in a great location, will definitely not stay here again.

The hotel is well located but desperately in need of a refresh. There was a large rust stain in the tub and cigarette burn mark in the sink. Definitely not the typical Marriot experience. They are also struggling with staffing issues which are COVID related so the IHOP and Applebee’s were unable to provide carry out food most of the time.

Checked in for Tigers Opening Day and stayed a few extra nights as a quick getaway. Room was dirty, especially the bathroom. We asked for cups since there weren’t any and they told us they don’t have cups. You’re a hotel, with 2 restaurants but you don’t have cups?? We asked for cups since there weren’t any and they told us they don’t have cups. You’re a hotel, with 2 restaurants but you don’t have cups?? Hot water went out yesterday morning and they said it was because a contractor hit something and it would be fixed in about an hour. We had to cancel our dinner reservations since we weren’t able to get cleaned up in time, for a 7pm reservation. It’s now been 24 hours and they are still giving BS stories as to what’s happening. When we asked them to find us another room at another Marriott property, they said “we don’t do that”. Ha! Being a titanium member with Marriott gets you....cold water. Shady hotel with awful service. Read less

Good location near downtown river walk and connected to GM center. Compared to the hotels in this area, the price is good. Bed was comfy and good view. I saw dust under TV, desk and window sill and started wondering if they really cleaned. Read less
