The good: good location, size of room and microwave in room. Also received lovely service from a gentleman at the host stand of the restaurants first thing on a Saturday morning. The bad: Unfriendly and unhelpful check in. At a hotel where the elevators are not visible when standing at the front desk it is helpful and customary to tell the guest where to go to access them. No Ambassador recognition. The ugly: Requested one hour late check out which was granted. Activated both door locks due to traveling alone. While in bathtub a maintenance staff member knocked then unlocked the door and entered while I was scrabbling to wrap a towel around myself. He then proceeded to scold me for not doing enough with the front desk regarding my late check out. I was dripping wet and in a towel and feeling very vulnerable so it was appalling to have this staff member not only not apologize but then try to blame it on me. Asked the Ambassador team to help raise the issue with management. Management got in touch to apologize and indicate service recovery then ignored me repeatedly when it came to actually coming through on service recovery. Eventually had to ask the Ambassador service again to facilitate contact. 20,000 points were put in my account with no further word. Can't recommend due to appalling service, a very unpleasant privacy intrusion and management ignoring me when it came to doing the right thing. If you're Bonvoy elite, there's no point coming here either. Read less

We stayed here for a wedding we were attending in Detroit. We made our reservations through a block of rooms that were given a discounted price for the event. When I tried to make a reservation for Friday at the same price I was told I couldn’t do that. I called the bride and she talked with her contact at Marriott and he took down my name and told her we could get the room on Friday for the same price as the block price. When i called back a few days later I was told that I couldn’t get the block price, they said they didn’t see my name anywhere don’t hav to pay $50 more for Friday than I was paying for Saturday. Needless to say we decided not to stay two nights. Once the day arrived I checked in with the Bonvoy App and it said they would text me when our room was ready. We never received a text and when we got to the hotel we checked in at the desk and the had s room ready. It would have been nice to know our room was ready before 4:00 since the wedding was at 5:00 The next morning I went to take a shower and there was no shampoo but there was two conditioner bottles. I tried to wash my hair with the hand soap, that didn’t go well. Once I was done with my shower I realized there was no blow dry in the room. I called my daughter who was staying just down the hall and she didn’t have a blow dryer either! When did you stop putting blow dryers in the rooms. If you did this because of COVID you should state that when reservations are being made. We had a nice time at the wedding but our stay at this Marriott was disappointing. Read less

She was not friendly or offering suggestions. When told we would like to change she directed us to bathrooms in the lobby that were to be opened with a room Key. It was filthy. Stall with urine on seat or toliets that didn’t flush If we had not been driving so far and had tickets to the game, we would have left. No comp of any kind offered- not even a bottle of water. We had to check our bag and they didn’t have a Safe available either as I could not take my purse into the stadium. No concern or suggestion given. Air not on in room and no plastic over remote as there had been at the Courtyard we stayed in last week. Wonder how “clean “ room even was. Very disappointing for this chain and as Bonvoy members. We will not likely be giving our business to Marriott again. Read less

I stayed here during a recent work-trip to Detroit. My office is in the downtown/financial district, roughly a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It offered everything I need in a work-trip hotel, and it might just be my new home base for working in Detroit. Lets start with location. The hotel is directly across the street from the GM Ren Center, so it's right in the heart of downtown. If you've got business in the area, staying here is definitely a no-brainer. It's also got direct access to a little convenience store with a totally solid selection of liquor and local craft beers (as in you can access the store without stepping outside from the hotel). Whether you need a stiff drink to help you sleep off the jet lag, or just love local craft beer like myself, this is a huge plus. Another key factor to recommend this hotel is the decent selection of food to be found within walking distance. With 15 minutes you can find yourself at a couple of legendary coney island hot dog places, a great Brazilian steak house, or a cool little German style bar. Which brings me to my final point. Let me start by stressing that this impacts ALL hotels in the area, not just the Courtyard, but this can be a huge deal for travelers staying the area. You're in the financial district. It's quite possibly one of the safest places in Detroit, but the neighborhood shuts at the end of the business day. Like a lot of places close at 6, and the neighborhood is dead by 8pm. For business travelers this is annoying, but for vacationers this would truly suck. On the plus side, Uber Eats does service the area with food from nearby neighborhoods with a later bed-time. Overall, if you're a business traveler working in the area, this is an excellent option, although it suffers from some key issues that impact all hotels in the neighborhood. If you're a vacationer who needs to stay in the area, again it's a great option, but depending on your plans you may not want to stay in this neighborhood at all. Read less

My husband and I go downtown often and we booked a room this past weekend. Do yourself a favor and book anywhere but here. Very dirty, shower didn’t drain, not updated and the staff seems absolutely miserable. Unfortunate since it’s in a great location, will definitely not stay here again.
