When we arrived at the Plantation we were immediately taken by the charm of the plantation property and the condos. At first we weren't sure about the fact the condos had no air conditioning, as it was a very warm week, but we quickly adjusted to this and found it surprisingly comfortable and enjoyable as a more culturally authentic experience. We started the week on the back row of the plantation, which was too close to the main Poi'Pu road across from the mall. It was rather noisy for us to be so close to the road, so we asked if they would be wiling to move us further into the plantation away from the road... they were super helpful and managed the situation to help us. This was one of the most enjoyable and memorable vacation experiences we've ever had and the Kiahuna Plantation was a very important part of that... beautiful landscape, comfortable condo with a full kitchen, super close to the beach, BBQ units close to our room, good wifi, friendly & helpful staff, etc. Read less

Owners have everything covered, sofa, chairs, dining room upholstered chairs topped with mismatch cushions that were faded an a tablecloth that matches nothing. Bedspreads were old, faded, and mismatched. Towels and washcloths were dingy and stained, the morning after arriving I washed them in HOT water to try to sanitize them...I washed my face with paper towels they were so bad. Every edge of carpet was covered with cheap carpet runners that curled at the edges and corners, I can not tell you how many times we tripped over those rugs or the plastic runner in the closet. We only made coffee there and used the refrigerator for drinks. One vacationer was charged $500 for the only TV in the condo that did not work the week after they left....Unless a football was thrown through the screen or it was laying on the floor, who can determine what happen Read less

I feel I should open by saying that if you're looking for a luxury, pampered experience, that is not this. I found Kiahuna Plantation Resort to be incredibly lovely and relaxing and beautiful, but it's more a condo-style experience with a full kitchen and living area. The staff was lovely and checked me in even though I'd arrived early (I had my time zone wrong!), and while I was there, three different concierges had recommendations for me that were incredibly helpful. Best piece of advice: get poke at the Koloa Fish Market! Also, as others have noted, there aren't glass windows in the units: there are screens with plantation shutters to cover them for privacy. The shutters worked fine for me, and since there also is no A/C, you're going to want to leave them open at night for the cross-breeze, which I loved. I used one of the provided floor fans, and the white noise helped block out any neighbor noises (and there weren't many). I think the only actual downside for me was the cost of housekeeping. I didn't mind not having ongoing housekeeping since I like the condo-style feeling, but the cost was high. The place was spotless and they do an amazing job, but it still was a pretty big additional hit. However, most importantly, I loved it there. The grounds are rolling and green and gorgeous, the grassy area above the beach is beautiful to relax on, and it's the sort of place where families are outside playing with the kids and groups of friends and couples are BBQing while you walk barefoot back to your condo. Also, at many places on the island, the water isn't safe to go in because of dangerous undertow or sharp rocks, but in the Kiahuna's private little mini-cove, the water was fine and safe and lovely to go in. (There are some sections of rock, but if you're going to Kauai, you probably want to have water socks or something similar handy to go into the water, anyway.) I found the whole area to be quiet, peaceful and the beautiful grounds were immaculately maintained, and my room/condo was comfortable and well-kept. I am super-happy that I sprung for the ocean view. Sliding open the shutters in front of the balcony in the morning and looking out over the perfect green lawns and the blue ocean is exactly what I wanted. Sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Read less

We were all excited about our trip and arrived to find the room not as was described to us. We were told we would have a 2 bedroom condo and the main areas such as kitchen ect would be in the bottom floor; we went to great lengths to talk through that very important fact and when we arrived it was not like that at all. We were traveling with two mature people who have trouble walking up and down stairs and have balance issues and our room had steep stairs to the main living area that were very difficult for them to navigate every time. When we talked to hotel management (Roy) to see if we could get our money back under the circumstances or if we could switch to different accommodations we were told that there’s no way we were misled and he does not like to play the he said she said game, and all there two bedroom rooms have the main area on the second floor and from a business standpoint (they would not be able to fill the room during one of the busiest months in Hawaii) yea right there was nothing they could do. Remember basic customer or guest service “the customer is always right” They said they would try to look for two single story units and we never heard back from them. I have stayed in many places in the world and the total lack of empathy or willingness to work with us was startling. The hotel was dated with no housekeeping service even though we were staying longer than a week. Very very very slow response time to requests for towels ect.... then on our last day we asked for late checkout and were told that they could not accommodate.....come on Kiahuna try better. Also be aware they may hold a cleaning deposit upfront. We will not be staying here again next time definitely the Sheraton in Poipu for the south side. Read less

In contrast, the guest units are housed in older wooden buildings not up to ADA code with no elevator. Our unit was comfortable with a well equipped kitchen, king bed, and nice deck on the with a partially obstructed ocean view from the 3rd floor. A major disappointment was the $200.00+ “cleaning fee” imposed per unit apparently regardless of length of stay. (It seemed excessive for our 2 nights and considering the bird droppings on our deck & railing when we checked in and the closets stuffed with furniture and other items to the extent that we couldn’t even open the door to one of the two closets.)
