I wish I could give this place 3.5/5 but I bumped it up to 4 because of the incredible view. The pool and beach area is phenomenal and has one of the most majestic views on the island. But there were a few misses that could be fixed: - The rooms need a bit of updating. Our screen door had some nicks in the screen and bugs could get in. This is unacceptable for a hotel at this price point. The sliding screen door would also get jammed and stuck frequently. - The valet service was irritating. We once waited over half an hour for our car and missed our dinner reservation. There needs to be more staffing for the valet, especially at peak times around dinner or early in the day when people are going out on excursions/checking out of the hotel. - The pool chairs were good but did not really feel 'luxurious' (i.e. like the ones at the Koa Kea). - The bed was very comfy but the feeling of the room is a bit tired. A fresh coat of pain and a super deep clean of each room is in order, even though the hotel was definitely very clean, it didn't have that 'sparkle' that you expect with luxury hotels. - The pool isn't reallllly an infinity pool at all. It's clever marketing at best and deception at worst. When you are in the pool, maybe from a certain angle it could *in theory* feel like you're swimming in an infinity pool but there are rows and rows of sunbathers facing down towards the beach so it's not like you have unobstructed views of Hanalei Bay while swimming (like some of the photos make it seem you would). We did use the spa and had an incredible couples massage and I loved my facial! Definitely worth the splurge for these treatments! Overall, this hotel has potential to be fabulous but it seems like they need to chip away at a few issues. It's a shame because the view and beach area is undoubtedly one of the best on the island (especially for young families) and unfortunately there needs to be a concerted effort to update some of the fixtures and practices at the hotel before we stay here again. Formerly the St Regis, the Princeville Resort still holds to some of that classic charm and warm attentive service. From the moment one arrives one is certainly greeted as a highly valued customer-from first valet to bellman to front desk/concierge. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Cannot beat seeing a view of the cliffs and the bay in the morning when possible. Two restaurants, one breakfast-only, the other dinner-only, a bar/lounge sometimes offering live musical entertainment, as well as a poolside grill and bar, provide food and drink on the premises. The ocean is suitable for snorkeling. THe swimming pool temperature feels a bit more comfortably warmer than many resort pools. A hot tub and small-child pool are also available.Restrooms are available near the pool area. The Resort is located on the north side of the island. Many restaurants tend to be further east and south-a bit more of a drive. But that may be an excellent excuse to explore Kauai! That being said--service in the breakfast restaurant, while warmly friendly, tended to be spotty during our week stay. The food was always delicious (the veggie scrambled eggs were a definite treat-complete with kale, sliced bell peppers and mushrooms. A bigger obstacle for our foursome was the placing of outlets in the room. THe desk which was large enough for two laptops did not have adequate outlets for both. No outlet is easily accessible at the nightstand or side table which would have been suitable for charging phones and other smaller devices (an obvious negative compared to other resort hotels). We definitely relished being away from our devices during our days, but the lack of being able to find electrical outlets where we have grown accustomed to finding them in other venues was saddening. However we will probably be returning to the Princeville on future stays in Kauai. Read less

My fiancé and I got engaged at the Princeville Resort and hired Pacific Dream Photography for our engagement photos. Erika was our photographer and she did an amazing job at capturing the moment. She really took her time with us to make sure the pictures would come out stunning. It really felt like she was just as invested as we were in making sure we would have pictures to capture this special moment in our lives. She made us feel very comfortable which made it easier for us to relax and enjoy the shoot. She was also able to work through less than optimal weather conditions. We were more than impressed with the results. Thank you so much Erika! We are sooo happy with the results. The review session was also a pleasurable experience. We were not rushed or pressured into buying anything. Anna did a great job in presenting the photos side by side which allowed us to really narrow it done to our favorites. The whole experience was perfect and fast considering how awesome the results were. Having them located inside the hotel also made it very convenient. Thank you again Erika and Anna! We will definitely use you again the next time we are in Kauai! Read less

We have been guests at this hotel many times in the past 20 years because it is fabulous . We have recommended it to family and friends who loved it as well. The location is magnificent and certainly our idea of heaven on earth. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. Some of them have worked here for many years. We understand that the hotel has been sold and will be going through a remodeling. This is not the first time we have seen this and we are accepting that a new freshness is necessary and is coming. Except, some of the policies of the new ownership we found disturbing and inhospitable. When you question the staff about it they all just hang their heads and say “I know, we’re all trying to adjust”. We believe them. To be specific, when leaving the hotel to drive to a local beach I asked at the valet stand for towels (no problem there) and water as I always have. The new policy is to go back to your room, call housekeeping and wait there for the water to be delivered because they want to reduce the use of plastic. How does that change a thing other than to inconvenience people? This is nonsense. Local beaches do not sell refreshments and I’m not going to risk getting dehydrated in the hot sun. The staff was apologetic and embarrassed. We planned ahead after that, but we definitely brought water bottles to the beach and if that offends someone’s environmental sensitivities I remain guilty. Every guest is jet lagged to some degree so our eating schedules are off but there is no place to eat on site between 11 and noon except to use room service. (We had no interest in doing that.) The hotel living room is no longer open during the day for food at all, only for drinks. You can eat there after 5PM and it is now a sushi bar. (The wonderful little wagyu beef sliders are gone.) We ordered tuna poke tacos which were delicious but I’ve never seen such small taco shells, they were the size of a potato chip. I also ordered a pina colada but was informed that new management took away the blender. There are no blended drinks at the indoor bar. The bartender just hung his head. This is HAWAII. People want pina coladas on vacation! You can only get these drinks during the day if you eat outside by the pool. The outside bar is no longer open in the evening. As a result, we did not eat on site as much as we usually do as it was all so unaccommodating. I was told that paper and pens will eventually be removed from guest rooms and chalk boards will be installed. I don’t use a lot of paper on vacation but sometimes I just need to write something down and take it with me. It worries me that in an effort to be environmentally aware, the hotel will become uncomfortable. This place has been our favorite for a long time. When we visit we want to be relaxed, clean, well fed and a bit pampered and not be disappointed by a lot of inhospitable rules. For now we remain hopeful that petty issues will be resolved and “aloha” will prevail. Read less
