We enjoyed our room, the lobby bar, and the beach/pool area. We had no issues with service, and our expectations were actually exceeded during check in. There was an issue with our Amex Platinum status, however it was made right. I had read reviews online about the property, and since my expectations were on par based on those and my prior visit I am very happy. No complaints at all. Lovely property, can’t be beat location. Unbelievable resort on a perfect patch of Hawaii. Kauai is an incredible island and the Princeville Resort allows you to enjoy the sunshine and laid back atmosphere of a tropical paradise. So this could be a five star hotel and probably was at one time. I have been to Kauai five times and stayed on every coast and this location is FIVE STAR. I believe the best location on the island. The view is perfect - what you dream of when you think of Hawaii. The prices are definitely five star. Some of the service is five star - specifically Scott at the pool and Matt at the valet. Otherwise service was very friendly and hard working but way understaffed. This led to huge delays and wait times and going without things you would normally expect. Unfortunately, after that, the hotel is not good. I am sad to write this only because I was saddened to hear that this hotel is laying off all of its employees for a year or more for a renovation. The renovation is terrible necessary. I don’t know how it became so unkept. But I feel terrible for the hundreds of people in a tiny island who will now be unemployed. First, the good. The bed was very cozy, the view from our second floor room was idyllic, staff was hardworking and friendly. Beach was beautiful, pool area was nice with lots of chairs. Did I mention the view? I’m serious - it’s that good. The entire wall of glass opened to bring it all inside. But now the bad: on first inspection the room was clean, but it was very worn. The first shower there revealed a water hammer like I have never experienced. When I called the manager they said the entire lower building does it and they are planning on fixing it in the reno. Hmm...that doesn’t help me having to hear it several times a day for our showers and our neighbors. I started noticing more stains in the carpet and then even some mold growing on the mats inside the framed art. Surfaces were worn, dented and scratched. The phones didn’t work. And more than once there were no clean towels at the pool and we waited in line to get them. When I called to complain about the less than 5 star qualities of the hotel I was told they would remove the “resort fee” from my booking. Surprise! My parents who were with us for a Christmas vacation paid the bill without telling me and the resort fees were not removed! So this hotel got three stars. 5+for location and staff, 2 for room. My advice is this. Wait until the renovations are complete. I would still stay here after them because I think it has the potential to be amazing. Sadly, for now this is a pass. Read less

Had a nice table outside on the end directly in front of the mountain where sun was setting. We returned a couple of days later to rent a Cabana on the beach and it was an amazing day. Cabana was $240 for 4 of us for the day. Right on the beach. Had a queen lounge bed and 2, umbrella covered, lounge chairs directly in front. That included a Beautiful fruit tray and a Bottle of decent Champagne. (sold on their menu for $56). Also includes all access to pools, hot tubs, etc. Very relaxing day with a cocktail server dedicated to beach service and a cabana boy who served us champagne and gave us lots of towels. We highly recommend this activityI We tipped them both, please remember to do this! There is free Valet Parking at the entrance. Read less

I just spent 3 days there over New Years. The location is great with a beautiful view. The room was adequate but dated and worn for the premium price.
