Mind you, this is not your typical hotel or resort experience. You get an air-conditioned very-private cottage with porch nestled amidst palm and monkeypod trees, meticulously maintained grass lawns, your own kitchen, parking, etc., with easy walking access to a great pool and a fantastic beach. It's the perfect place to switch your brain off and slow everything down in a tropical paradise. We wished we could have stayed longer. Read less

This was truly a magical experience. Our cottage was right on the water and being able to see the ocean from any window was breathtaking. The cottage itself was very nicely cared for and updated in all the right ways as to keep its rustic charm. It’s wooden exterior, wrap around porch, and metal roof all created a fantastic cottage experience. The grounds and landscaping were beautiful and the giant tree out front of our cottage was magical to wake up to every morning. Chairs and hammocks abound everywhere. We fell asleep in a hammock under the stars one night. The stay couldn’t have been better, and continued to be the highlight of our 2 week trip in Hawaii out of all our stays across the island. We will definitely be returning, only this time staying exclusively at the cottages. Read less

The plantation is in a nice area but not perfect. You can probably swim in the ocean but it is a little rough and the water is murky from kicking up sand. The plantation is in a nice area but not perfect. You can probably swim in the ocean but it is a little rough and the water is murky from kicking up sand. The whole 4 days we were there we did not see anyone in the ocean. It does have a medium sized pool. It isn't beautiful like you would get in a resort but it is nice enough for swimming and lounging. Like most pools in Hawaii, it is only 4 feet deep. It has a very nice restaurant/bar on the property with reasonable prices. It is also within walking distance to Waimea and many roadside restaurants. They are less than a mile away. However, it was so warm in the afternoons that we did not feel like waking that far. Most of the restaurants close at 5pm and there are only three choices after 5. You have to drive at least 20 minutes to find more options for dinner. This was an old plantation built in the 1910 timeframe. The cottages used to be living quarters for the workers. The cottages are still the 1910 structures but were modified to include indoor plumbing and electricity. You can see where/how the retrofitting was done. Most of the fixtures are old and simple. It has charm but might not be for everyone. The only real problem is that the cottages are hot during a hot afternoon. The only cooling they have are small window air conditioners in some of the bedrooms (not all bedrooms have A/C). They have ceiling fans and floor standing fans are provided, but on a hot, muggy afternoon, all you are doing is blowing around hot air. At night, you might have to run your bedroom A/C at full blast all night long. Each cottage is different in style. But, they all have full kitchens which are equipped with everything you could possibly need. Most of the cottages have more than one bathroom (except for the one bedroom cottages). All of the cottages have a outdoor patio that is great for sitting on in the evening and morning. The property is very nice and beautiful. It is right up against the ocean and there is grass everywhere. There are some very interesting trees. I think this is a great place for a group of people (we were there for a wedding), who want to party together. I don't know if I would recommend this for a couples weekend. Read less

our home away from home for a couple of days. The cottages reminded me of my grand-aunt’s home. Most of the cabins are from the early 1900’s. Our group stayed in three 3-bedroom cottages. Cottage number 61 is located at the corner of 2 intersecting roads and is the 1st cottage on the beachside after leaving the reception office. the layout of this cottage was great for larger get-together (our party of 9). there was a twin bed in the living room where people can leave their stuff before sitting in the living room. A large tv was located here. one a/c was in the master bedroom. I loved the gifts of a shopping bag, Kauai cookies, shell leis, and Kauai coffee. Toiletries were nice. Cabin 62 was next to 61 and had 1 a/c unit in the living room. Each room had a standing fan to cool off the rooms. Cabin 74 (across the road and behind the reception/restaurant building) had 2 a/c units-one in the living room and 1 in the master bedroom. Beds in this cabin were a bit soft, sinking in the middle. The beds in Cabin 62 were perfect in all the rooms- firm but not hard. bbq units and hammocks were located in the center of the area and the secured/gated pool had plenty of loungers. More hammocks and chairs were located under the pine trees near the beach. The staff were great, offering multiple keys for each cabin. Free iced water and juice are available in the main building as well and the daily newspaper, coffee (at 7 am), ice machine, dvd machine (can borrow 2 dvds per nite), a little store, and access to a computer and printer. They even offer ear plugs in case the rooster's crowing is too loud for you, The chicken in the barrel restaurant iw located on the backside of the main building as well as a pizza place. prices were ok. A 10 inch pizza as $10. I didn’t check out the other restaurant but it was busy and outside seating overlooked the large yard. Read less

My wife and I stayed in cottage 'G' for her birthday. It was one of the best get aways we have had in our 22 years of marriage. The cottage was well kept and relaxing. The front desk Aunty was very kind and helpful.
