Image of the Tripadvisor rating No refunds/reschedule due to Covid-19 Pandemic

Loved vacationing at this place in the past, but will consider never going to a Disney property again. They are not refunding or rescheduling upcoming room reservations for those who are on lockdown in California due to Covid-19. The fact that DISNEY is taking this position during a worldwide pandemic is detestable.

The resort itself is beautiful, the artwork, light fixtures, smell, views of the main lobby/building are overwhelming when one walks in. The room we got had a partial ocean view, it was a decent size for the average room(we didn't upgrade), we got all the nice amenities like robes, coffee maker, soaps, balcony. The pools are awesome! Water slides, lazy river, their own beach and ocean access, couldn't ask for anything more. This place really is a resort which I love, palm trees and greens everywhere, for sure want to go back! Only thing that would be challenging for some is that if you didn't know Disney, you wouldn't realize the advanced dining you have to make and the high cost meals (I am used to that, but the only thing I don't love about Disney in general). I just got back yesterday from Aulani and wanted to share our experience since I had read so much and was torn. First off as most people already know Aulani is pricey and in the KoOlina area about 45 min from Waikiki. For us, we prefer this area, the lagoons and were prepared for Disney prices. I booked during there winter special and stayed during the week (M-F) in a partial ocean view room, it was myself and my daughter who is 9yrs old. The room was nice with small Disney touches, the furniture was dark and seemed to be in good shape, view on balcony was pretty and also overlooking the parking lot and shopping center across the street. Robes were nice touch and deep bathtub for soaking. Also had a pull out couch and fridge where I kept juices and small bottles of rum to make my own drinks once we were in for the night. We at at all the restaurants, AMA AMA for breakfast which was good and had an amazing server and a wonderful view. I read a lot about going at sunset but we preferred breakfast so we can enjoy the beachfront view the entire time. We did Ulu Cafe for lunch and breakfast, it was good did poke bowl, salads and breakfast platters, it’s convenient. Not too many tables outside so we saw lots of families taking trays up to room or to chairs by pools. On our final night we did the character dinner at Makahiki. My daughter ate pizza, fruit, and dessert. She usually eats more which I was hoping given the price but she was very excited about meet and greets. My food was good, mostly stuck to seafood which I felt was fresh and staff kept refilling. Our server was very attentive and even went to check to see when Stitch was coming to our table. My one complaint is as noted in other reviews that Disney considers anyone over 9yr old and adult. Which IMO is a ridiculous. We also did Luau, food was good though it took along time to get to into line but once there we loaded up and I went back for dessert and tea with no issues. My daughter liked the food, though they needed more pre show activities. Show was cool, though I think they could have cut about 30 min from it, saw a lot of younger kids sleeping and getting antsy. Pools and beach were great, we did not have any issues getting chairs like others have noted. Again I do think it’s time of year as well as weekday stay. I didn’t see people saving seats and in fact saw staff folding towels after seats have been unattended and removing items if left empty for over an hour. I really liked that they had poolside and beach service. Areas were clean and never felt too crowded. Beach was lovely we got the boogie boards and sand toys (free). Everyone had wristbands that change daily but TBH it did seem like anyone could use pools/beach as it’s unclear how they check these. There are several activities happening throughout the day, you can check via IWA and or online. Bummed that yoga classes/most activities are for fee given what stay cost. The refillable mugs/popcorn bucket was worth the cost, no need to buy any water/drinks with them. I filled mine with juice/soda and added my own booze. There is a nice shopping plaza right across the way, most items cans be purchased, plus several restaurants. There are other shopping areas a quick car ride away. Overall had an amazing stay, I planned pretty carefully and stayed on budget. We didn’t do any excursions through Disney, opted on renting car for day trip to north shore which I feel is a must. Rest of trip was at resort taking advantage of everything it had to offer. Make all reservations (meals, cars) before arriving as well as any special requests. Don’t stress on arrival/leave time as you will still have access to everything and they provide space to store luggage/shower until check in or time for flights. Uber/taxis will cost 60+ from airport, we used Charlie’s taxi for flat rate of 57 that included tax. Hope this helps anyone looking to visit 🌺 Read less

This was my first visit to Oahu after first traveling to Kauai. Although it seems the whole island is susceptible to weekday traffic, this resort is far enough away from the hustle and bustle and kitchiness of Waikiki that you can actually relax. Like all Disney resorts, the service here is exceptional. The entire resort is immaculately maintained. The lobby floor corridors had beautiful Hawaiian scents that I will never forget. Although less than 10 years old, the guest rooms are starting to show some age. For example, the TVs are quite old and most of the channels are NOT in HD. Also, it seems Oahu has very hard water so the bathroom fixtures had quite a bit of limescale on them. Other than that, the rooms are essentially no-frills, basic rooms with a decent amount of closet and drawer space. The lagoon is a nice touch, however, it's important to know that they're aren't any waves. So if you or your kids want to boogie board or surf, you'll have to find another beach. The hotel does a good job to not overwhelm you with Disney. It's primarily a Hawaiian resort than it is a Disney resort. They say the characters are on vacation there so they're not always present. However, you you'll have many opportunities to see them. There's a hotline you can call from your room to see what times and where characters will be. Also, one of the best ways to see the characters is at character breakfasts and dinners a Makahiki. Read less

Loved my room and the balcony´s view but I would only recommend this resort if you travel with kids. They will enjoy the lazy river and various activities. Infinity pool and jacuzzies nice but small and crowded. Best option; the lagoon. Great customer service. Thank you for the nice welcoming with fresh hawaiian leis and necklaces..
