We stayed 3 nights at this resort recently and I can tell you I would not return! Let me first say that I am not a big Disney fan but my family is so I booked this resort for 3 nights to begin our Hawaii vacation. It is located in a very nice area and has a beautiful beach and a convenient shopping area directly across the street. The rooms are small and the prices are exorbitant, even for the island! The service is not great and the resort is extremely crowded, especially at the pools! We payed about $3k for 3 nights in a standard room and the TV didn't even work the entire time we were there. We had dinner at the buffet restaurant the first night and it was terrible and also very expensive. For the kind of money you are paying at this resort you could stay at the Four Seasons and you would get great service, which is totally lacking at the Aulani. They even charged us an extra $100 a night for the room when they found out we had 4 people staying (our two daughters, one age 10 and the other 20) in our room with two double beds. I will say that the restaurant that serves fried fish by the pool was pretty good and the luau, which was also very expensive, was quite entertaining and well done. It always amazes me how Disney can put out a sub-standard product, pack it with people, serve average food and the masses still come. I suggest everyone buy Disney stock because they are masters at making money! It is a shame because they really could provide a personalized, luxury experience for the kind of money they are charging. Aulani could be world class resort but instead they cram as many people as they can into a relatively small property and nickel and dime you for everything and they get away with it. If we do return to Oahu we will not be staying at this resort again! Read less

Great hotel, great experience, great destination. Yes. It is pricey. It's Disney. But if you are going to Honolulu, and you can squeeze in an extra few days of an extravagant expenditure, then go for it. We made great memories in just a few days and yes, I would totally go back. SO much to do and so little time to do it. Very well organized… Read more

After visiting Maui for a week, we were anxious to arrive in Oahu and get to spend four nights in Aulani. For years, our family has wanted to travel to Aulani, and see what all the rage was about. I decided to break up my response into sections :) Rooms: We stayed in the standard hotel room, and it was extremely satisfactory, however, we knew coming into this vacation that we wouldn’t have to stay in the rooms much. The only complaint I have with the rooms was the lack of lighting. It was extremely dark when the sun went down, and somewhat unpleasant. It reminded our family of motel room vibes due to this poor lighting. Pool: The pool at Aulani is fantastic. It’s beautiful, and has two amazing water slides, as well as an awesome lazy river. My only piece of advice, is to try and find seats in front of the AMAAMA restaurant. If you have little kids, this may not suit you, but for our two teenage daughters and ourselves, it was nice to be able to be away from the chaos yet still have a beautiful beach view to sit and tan in front of. Also, Disney tends to clear people’s pool chairs every 45-60 minutes if they’re left unattended, and they didn’t do this in our area which was nice. Beach: The beach at Aulani is really nice. Calm waters for little ones, and lots of open space to swim. It seemed crowded at the shore, but if you swim out you’re able to find lots of space to relax. The lagoon is very large, and there’s chairs down by the beach if you would rather sit there (our family tends to prefer the beach over the pool due to how chaotic the pool can get). Food: The food at aulani is pretty good. We enjoyed the sushi and sashimi a ton, and couldn’t believe how amazing it was. We also liked the poke bowls they offered at the Ulu cafe. The one thing I would not recommend is the shaved ice. After being in Maui and having outstanding shaved ice, we were throughly disappointed with the quality at Aulani. It was just the stuff you get back in the states. If you want awesome shaved ice, go to the north shore to Matsumotos. As far as a lot of the other food there, it was pretty standard Disney quick service food. The buffet, however, looked good. We didn’t eat here but we did check it out and they had a ton to choose from including fish, sushi and sashimi, chicken, pork, etc. Also, the Luau had pretty good food options for families, and we were pleasantly surprised. We also ate at MonkeyPod and Roy’s, and had good meals at both. MonkeyPod is directly across and has delicious meals. Roy’s is a short walk, and was great, but pricey. I hope I was able to help, and if you have any questions let me know. Overall, Aulani was great. There was a heavy Disney presence, but that was expected. We had a great stay, nonetheless! Read less
