Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach

Honolulu, Oahu

The hotel

Part of the Outrigger family, this is a premier hotel with well-equipped, spacious guest rooms ensuring a comfortable holiday base. The location is fantastic too, directly overlooking beautiful Waikiki Beach and just a stone's throw from shops, bars and restaurants. Even people who aren't staying here tend to wander into the lobby as it's filled with rare and historic Hawaiian artefacts, including a century-old koa canoe! The Hula Grill Waikiki is another local attraction, serving scrumptious breakfasts and romantic dinners beside the ocean. Duke's Canoe Club is also right on the beach and perfect for an evening meal. Right in it the heart of Waikiki - awesome spot on the beach. The location is perfect - we have stayed both ends of Waikiki and back one and two blocks - I wouldn’t stay any other location now after staying here. The hotel staff we came across were friendly and housekeeping very nice. Rooms clean and comfortable. Next time we come back I will be staying here for sure. Loved it. The food at Pais deli was nice. The banana shakes were delicious. We did use the voyager 47 club - the view is amazing and it is a nice area to sit in the morning and the evening - I was pretty disappointed with the food though (nothing wrong with it but it was just ok) and I didn’t really like any of the alcohol included (I’m not fussy what I drink either - it just wasn’t that nice) however my husband was happy with the self serve beer. I wouldn’t use the club again unless I got an amazing deal for it because it just wasn’t worth the price for me personally. My husband got up early every day to get a seat at the pool - while I’m fine with the first in first served basis, clearly the one hour rule does not apply (your stuff is supposed to be removed if you have been gone for one hour). We often had seats next to us empty for many hours without a sign of the people that reserved them. One day the seats next to us where empty for the 7 hours that we were there. As there were people looking for seats we told staff, but they stated they were not sure how long they had been gone and will remove their stuff if they were not back in one hour. Clearly if they have not noticed them gone for the 6 hours prior they are not enforcing the rule. We were there on Australia Day and Australians received a free beer and sausage. There was also trivia and thong throwing competitions - they donated all money to the bushfire appeal - it was good fun and as an Aussie I appreciated the day. I did want to purchase one of the lamps in the rooms (Hawaiian Lady) but they said they don’t sell them and were specially made for the Outrigger - so given we do travel to Hawaii often I would like to buy one if you ever renovate and are willing to sell. As mentioned I will be back for sure - my young son loved the pool and beach here too - he also got to use the boards and buckets and spades from the hotel at the beach. Read less

We just checked out today. They say they enforce masks and social distancing but they do not. I was accosted in an elevator by a group of people who exceeded the 4 person maximum without required masks. (Signs were posted everywhere about this.) I asked them to not have more than 3 of their group enter and put on their masks. They screamed every explicative in the book and intentionally coughed on me. When I told the hotel, they said “again? We don’t have enough security when it gets busy.” Why don’t they hire it if they are so busy? Additionally, their commitment to cleanliness during a pandemic is another lie. Our bathroom had hair and dental floss on the floor from the previous guests. Read less

My husband and I are moving to Honolulu due to his job and recently tried to stay at the Kahala Resort. They refused to book us even with a waiver from the AT due to being Essential. We went straight to the Outrigger where Cecilia Derramas promptly welcomed us, made the appropriate call to verify our letter of circumstance, and assured us by her kind, caring, professional manner that it was going to be okay now. WHEW! And it WAS! Clean, large rooms with great views awaited us. Duke's Grill downstairs was perfect with back porch seating..either open or covered and with wonderful live music. Food great, people friendly, and the pool was fine. Catamarans park outside to offer $50 snorkle sail trips (with free drinks and music) up the cove. LOTS of turtles to be seen. Bottom line: Save yourself some time and just book here. Its ALL good... and for a lot less money than most this caliber! ALOHA all over this staff! Read less

Hotel fronts a perfect surf and body boarding spot. Ocean views are wonderful! The service received from Cecilia at the Front Desk started the vacation on the perfect note. She is a standout. Line for Dukes was long but the host stayed calm and smiling! Like the overall cleanness of the Resort but the pool water seemed dirty but I guess that's what happens when you have kids in it all day. Only feedback we have is that the walkway from the pool to the beach area really should be cleared out, there were tents lined up so it was hard to walk through. Other than that a great staycation!
