Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach

Honolulu, Oahu

The hotel

Part of the Outrigger family, this is a premier hotel with well-equipped, spacious guest rooms ensuring a comfortable holiday base. The location is fantastic too, directly overlooking beautiful Waikiki Beach and just a stone's throw from shops, bars and restaurants. Even people who aren't staying here tend to wander into the lobby as it's filled with rare and historic Hawaiian artefacts, including a century-old koa canoe! The Hula Grill Waikiki is another local attraction, serving scrumptious breakfasts and romantic dinners beside the ocean. Duke's Canoe Club is also right on the beach and perfect for an evening meal. The swimming pool is beach-side.

We were very pleased with the Outrigger Beach Resort. We initially chose it because it was right on the beach. Later learned that it was very convenient as an excursion pickup site and a short walk to everything. Free hotel shuttle to Diamond Head stops at Duke statue nearby. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Room and hotel are extremely clean. Very impressed with housekeeping staff, they helped us kindly with boo boos we made like locking ourselves out of our safe and letting a swimsuit blow away! The beach and pool are small; when we were there it was very crowded. Two onsite restaurants both have marvelous food. Have to mention Duke's salad bar, it is the most amazing salad bar I have ever seen. The restaurants are also crowded, make a reservation early or be flexible enough to carry a pager and wait an hour or 2. About the only con is the concierge desk. They were constantly trying to get us to go on a timeshare tour! We just wanted our questions answered. At one point, I was looking for transportation to Manuka Lighthouse trail. Concierge tried to sell us a very expensive trip. I found, on my own, a tour that would shuttle us there and back very inexpensively. Read less

The property from the lobby is fine, the location is perfect, there are two great restaurants in the hotel...fantastic. All stops there. The pool is small and shaded, and the rooms are from the 80s. Upon coming up from the elevator there is an old stench from the dated carpets of cigarette smoke - it’s disgusting. The rooms have ceiling to floor mirrors and an old couch that I wouldn’t even sit on. The bathroom is a nice size however the tub is plastic and makes a noise like it’s about to break when you step inside. No robes or slippers so bring your own I wouldn’t walk on this carpet with bare feet. Read less

My absolute favorite spot to stay in Hawaii—beautiful resort with super friendly staff and great restaurants. The Outrigger Waikiki is located on a gorgeous stretch of beach adjacent to lots of shopping, and within walking distance of many local attractions. Highly recommend!

Great location right on the beach and the Main Street through Waikiki. The Dukes restaurant and the grill were first class. All a little expensive but what do you expect for the location. Rooms have everything you need just a bit old fashioned for our taste. The best mai tai bar by the way is next door in the Royal Hawaiian, access off the beach.
