Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach

Honolulu, Oahu

The hotel

Part of the Outrigger family, this is a premier hotel with well-equipped, spacious guest rooms ensuring a comfortable holiday base. The location is fantastic too, directly overlooking beautiful Waikiki Beach and just a stone's throw from shops, bars and restaurants. Even people who aren't staying here tend to wander into the lobby as it's filled with rare and historic Hawaiian artefacts, including a century-old koa canoe! The Hula Grill Waikiki is another local attraction, serving scrumptious breakfasts and romantic dinners beside the ocean. Duke's Canoe Club is also right on the beach and perfect for an evening meal. The swimming pool is beach-side.

Prime location in Waikiki and on Waikiki Beach. The best part of Waikiki Beach is located in front of this hotel. Centrally located for all activites, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, beach activities and relaxing. Everyone there is friendly and helpful, and does everything they can to help you enjoy your experience. Front desk, bell desk, back office, housekeepers, pool guys, and everyone associated with the hotel are fantastic. And, we stay there year after year, and have had the same high service level for years We have gotten to know some of the people who remember us every time we come. It's just like seeing old friends again. Room is great with nice decoration and plenty of space. They have good storage space, full tub and shower, refrigerator, a safe, each with an individual lanai that is great to watch the waves, the beach activity and just relax and enjoy. Dukes is our favorite beach bar and party spot and as usual Henry Kapono was there for Duke's on Sunday and as usual, lots of fun, great music and great drinks ! Can't wait to go back again next year. Read less

This was our 7th stay at this hotel and it always exceeds our expectations. Many good restaurants in the complex and within short walking distance and a free shuttle around the district. We will be back again.

We originally booked an ocean view room with a king bed for two adults. We went through a third party and paid $2722.81 for 6 nights excluding room charges. Later, we invited our adult daughter to join us; called the third party and were told for changes we needed to contact the resort directly. The Outrigger told us the room did not have a sofa/bed and changes needed to be made upon arrival. Upon arrival we were told that an upgrade to a suite with a sofa/bed was $200 a night + $75 a night for the third person excluding room charges. We checked out on the last day at 6:30 am at the front desk w/o invoice details. Looking at our credit card revealed a charge of $2173.65! So for the 6 nights with my daughter sleeping on an EXTREMELY lumpy and uncomfortable sofa/bed we paid $4,898.46 which equates to $816.07 a night. I am used to Las Vegas and even Scottsdale, where that kind of room charge puts you in pure luxury! (ocean view=$$$$). The small adjacent public beach accessible by traipsing through Dukes: $60 a day for a beach umbrella and two lounge chairs. There was constant noise from beachgoers and the beach was always lit up from resorts' spotlights; so much for quiet nighttime waves and the moon upon the sea. lol maybe next time I should go to Kauai! Our check in personnel were extremely friendly and efficient. "LIGAYA" helped us the first day and greeted us warmly each day. On another occasion, we spoke with Jodi and Victoria and they were both very pleasant and helpful. Read less

We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely, clean, large room. Walkout out deck with table and two chairs for coffee in the morning and sunsets at night..Loved the view of the ocean! Pool and Jacuzzi were right next to the beachfront area! Right on the ocean! Loved our swims in the Pacific ocean. The employees at client services were very helpful starting with a glass of fresh juice while we checked in. They helped with directions inside and outside the hotel. We also got help from the concierge booking our visit to Pearl Harbor and to the Polynesian Culture Center. We had a bottle of fresh water every day, an Outrigger tote bag, free internet and newspaper, and always smiling staff. We ate around town so I can't comment on the Duke's restaurant. The lower level had seven small shops with quality items, snacks, shirt, jewelry...lots of choices. Our only regret is that the Outrigger is part of a time share group and they use every method possible trying to get you to sign up! Even still, we'd still go back. Read less
