MGM Grand Hotel & Casino

The Strip, Las Vegas

The hotel

In a city of fabulous excess where big is always beautiful, the 5,000-room MGM Grand takes the XXL biscuit. The world’s second largest hotel features a 6.5-acre Grand Pool Complex containing four swimming pools, three whirlpools, Vegas’ longest lazy river, and waterfalls. The Wet Republic Ultra Pool holds seasonal pool parties too. And that’s just for starters, as the MGM Grand hosts huge sporting events, top shows such as Ka by Cirque du Soleil, Virtual Reality and famous performers such as David Copperfield. On top of that, Hakkasan regularly hosts DJs Calvin Harris and Tiesto. Peckish after all that? Then take your pick from a mouth-watering range of restaurants that satisfy pretty much any mood and taste you can imagine.

It was a great value for the price, and they even let us change rooms after check-in when our first room smelled vaguely of pot smoke (most Vegas hotels on the Strip smell like pot, we found). We thought it would be a sleepless night when some guests were loud in the hallways around 7 PM, but it got much quieter later. No shows were open, but this seems to be a key hotel for big Vegas shows like David Copperfield and Cirque Du Soleil. If you're on a budget, don't go to the Wolfgang Puck restaurant near the casino; go to the food court. Read less

The food court had four vendors open(Johnny Rockets(has breakfast), Sbarro’s(pizza),Nathan’s(Wings are delicious)and an Asian Fusion spot).. visited the pool area for the lazy river.. get there early for the Lazy river bc it reaches capacity early! Tubes are $20-25 to purchase.. no rentals.. ordered drinks and relaxed until around 2pm... went to order food ( $20 hot wings) At the pool side cafe-and they asked for ID to use my credit card after spending over $100 on drinks and not once did the servers ID me... Showed her name on card and my name tatted on my arm.. she was not giving in.. go figure! So that’s how I know Nathan’s wings are delicious and you save about $5! Social distancing is in effect ... nice and clean, machines being wiped down , masks gloves and sanitizing stations are in place!! Free self parking! No airport shuttle at this time! Stay was great! I acknowledge the importance of masks indoors but masks outdoors when you are distanced from people is just stupid and unnecessary according to science. The hotel is nice and rooms comfortable. My only complaints are about the pool area where the check in process seems more inefficient than government work and the mask police in orange shirts come around at the pool to tell you to keep your mask on even when you are SO far way from other guests AND outdoors. The check in process for paid seating takes to long and involves 5!!! Check points. Two which are bag checks. The first one says they checking for glass which makes sense. They do allow you to bring in outside beverages as long as not in glass. BUT the second bag check point the lifeguard tells us cans are not allowed?!?! Then you must pour your canned drinks into cups. So overall I’d recommend buying the lounge chairs at the pool well in advance for comfort and comes with shade and guaranteed entrance to the pool. Other gripes are really about NV “rules” that just aren’t common sense. Read less

This year paid a little more (which during COVID is way less than regular) for the Staywell and loved it. The room was so comfortable and roomy. Service was excellent from both the front desk at at the pool. The pool area is fabulous - surpasses Mandalay Bay now because Mandalay reserves almost all the good stuff now for the expensive pool clubs. Very impressed with the COVID-19 procedures. This is becoming our favorite Summer hotel on the strip. The only 2 downsides are the motorized cart and also one day there were some drunks at the pool causing problems and the "security" team took over 30 minutes to convince them to leave the pool area - put people like that out. Overall, it was an incredible bargain! Read less
