MGM Grand Hotel & Casino

The Strip, Las Vegas

The hotel

In a city of fabulous excess where big is always beautiful, the 5,000-room MGM Grand takes the XXL biscuit. The world’s second largest hotel features a 6.5-acre Grand Pool Complex containing four swimming pools, three whirlpools, Vegas’ longest lazy river, and waterfalls. The Wet Republic Ultra Pool holds seasonal pool parties too. And that’s just for starters, as the MGM Grand hosts huge sporting events, top shows such as Ka by Cirque du Soleil, Virtual Reality and famous performers such as David Copperfield. On top of that, Hakkasan regularly hosts DJs Calvin Harris and Tiesto. Peckish after all that? Then take your pick from a mouth-watering range of restaurants that satisfy pretty much any mood and taste you can imagine.

Spent extra money on a penthouse suite. Highlight of room was the giant jetted tub. Sadly it did not work. Thought an upgraded room might have things that most every hotel other than Vegas would have like a coffee pot, refrigerator, and microwave. Booked a 2bedroom suite. The room was dirty and dated. The furniture was old and damaged. I requested to speak with a manager several times, with no luck. The room shown online was very very different from the room presented. OVERPRICED FOR THE VALUE.

Needed a getaway desperately and the rates were too good to pass up. I’m starting to see why. The cleaning staff did a poor job of cleaning my bathroom. A dirty wash rag from the previous guest was left hanging on the shower curtain rod. I also found some substance smeared/caked on the faucet. Praying it was cleaning product. But it made me wonder what else was left out since there was so little attention to detail. I understand mistakes are made but in the middle of a pandemic, I was not comfortable in my room. Another minor issue, that was not the fault of staff, was my excessively noisy neighbors waking me at 7am shouting back and forth to each other. I sent videos to the front desk but did not receive a response. I called and they agreed to send security up to ask that they lower their volume. To my knowledge that didn’t occur. Frustrated, I checked out early. With all my belongings in tow I asked where I could wait. I was directed to the food court. I feel like, given that there are lounges, a better solution could’ve been reached. I later realized I could’ve left my luggage at the bell desk and sat at a restaurant- unsure which were open. I just felt like the effort across the board was minimal. Very disappointing. Last month I stayed at Mandalay Bay and had an amazing experience so I was expecting the same level of service. I planned to return to MGM next month but thinking better of it now. Read less
