Ace Hotel Downtown LA

Los Angeles, USA

The hotel

Although the new kid on the block, The Ace Hotel enjoys an historic location, in the United Artists Building in Downtown LA, which was built in 1927. Delightfully funky rooms come in a range of sizes. Christened Small, Medium and Large, this is a hotel that likes to keep things simple but edgy – after all, one of your room amenities includes an acoustic Martin Guitar in case you fancy getting creative! There’s a rooftop swimming pool and bar, and plenty of events are held there, or just grab a cocktail, bag a lounger, kick back and enjoy the panoramic views. Just off Ace’s Lobby is L.A. Chapter, a carefully cultivated brasserie with thoughtful focus on locally sourced vegetables and seafood. A great place to while away a few hours, the vibe is just as exciting as the menu. Another gem this hotel boasts is The Theatre – one of the most remarkable in the city. With its vaulted ceiling and thousands of tiny mirrors that glimmer when lit, it’s always the star of the show!

Can't speak highly enough of what an incredible weekend we had. We'd been to the beautiful Theatre for a few shows and had contemplated making a weekend at the hotel proper for awhile. Cut to a combo birthday/mother's day weekend that fell on a night we were seeing a show and bingo. The moment we walked in, hotel staff was friendly, attentive, and eager to help. They absolutely took care of us and made sure it was a memorable visit. Kudos to management for seriously going above and beyond to make sure our stay was memorable. Room itself was clean, modern, spacious and had everything we needed. It was an amazing spot to hang out with the turntable. The room had such character, it would have been easy to stay there and hang out (we seriously contemplated blowing off later plans). Off to the rooftop bar complete with a swimming pool and bartenders with an even and heavy pour. The music that night was a little untz untz untz, but let's remember it is a public rooftop bar in Los Angeles. Regardless, the drinks were great, the people watching better, and the type of bar where if you wanted to dance you could, but we quickly found seats and enjoyed the scenery. I'd also recommend the cafe/restaurant on site, Best Girl. Good coffee/tasty food. Nearly cured a hangover. Nearly. An amazing weekend and a hotel you could comfortably lounge in or use as a jump off to other adventures. Easily recommend it and had such a great experience, we're eager to go back or try other Ace properties. Read less

great friendly and fun place to stay... but, cant expect perfection in the rooms. although the design is great, creative and comfortable, some of the finishes are not easy to maintain and show wear before their time. the mustard yellow carpets show wear and look pretty rough. its just that they have no pattern at all and that color when slightly dirty looks especially naff. and the concrete floors need a sealer that makes them look sealed and non porous. I'm sure they were sealed but its now worn and water is clearly absorbed into the concrete meaning bare foot evil as well. and the homosote panels used on the walls i know are also sponges to any dirt or stuff that gets on them and they cannot be cleaned. its just too bad an investment cant be made to change these out as they really detract to an unreasonable degree in contrast to everything great in the hotel. the hot water was off in the first room but you swiftly moved me at 2am to an upgraded room so thanks for that. regardless....i'll stay again and tell friends to, but please tell me these will be updated so i dont need to bring slippers and purell next time. Great experience top to bottom. Will definitely stay here again. Eat at the restaurant, drink on the roof, live it up! The location is so good that even though we rented a car we barely drove it. You can even walk all the way to Philippe, which you should.

Highly recommend Ace Hotel DTLA if you're traveling in the area. Read less
