Custom Hotel

Los Angeles, USA

The hotel

There’s no escaping it – traditionally, airport hotels go for location and functionality in that order, with style bringing up the rear. Not so with Custom, the only boutique hotel located within a mile of Los Angeles International Airport (not to mention wonderfully close to loads of LA attractions and beach towns). Naturally Custom embraces its location – there’s a dedicated LAX Lounge with live departure times and the ability to print out boarding passes, plus complimentary shuttles to the airport. However, its rooms and suites having a soothing contemporary elegance, there’s a heated pool with cabanas, multi-tiered sun deck, and fire pit, and with Deck 33, you have American Comfort Cuisine, artisanal cocktails and a fine selection of microbrews. Outstanding.

In all the reviews I just read, the construction is mentioned so I won't discuss the many problems related to that aspect of my stay. When I booked all that was available were suites. The staff person indicated that an ADA room was available. Wow. I didn't realize how different these rooms are and that is not flattery. Don't enter the room at… Read more

The staff person indicated that an ADA room was available. Wow. I didn't realize how different these rooms are and that is not flattery. Don't enter the room at night. There is no overhead lighting and you will need to find your way to the bedside lamp switch. You need to indicate if there is more than one person staying because they must think that folks with disabilities travel alone; there were no towels or toiletries for a second person. The carpet was stained, the electronic blinds were difficult to operate, and the distance between the TV and the bed was vast. And how about providing a chair? All this after I was denied a complimentary breakfast to compensate for the construction mess. I was told that they "hope I am enjoying the newly renovated guest room while they complete the finished lobby. " Not great management. Read less

We went to this hotel for one night. Nothing in any confirmation email said that this hotel was being renovated. Renovated is an understatement. It's under construction. Missing ceilings, cardboard on the floor, etc. There's hardly a reception area and we could hear LOUD construction throughout the day. The elevator was torn up as well. We had no… Read more

Missing ceilings, cardboard on the floor, etc. There's hardly a reception area and we could hear LOUD construction throughout the day. The elevator was torn up as well. We had no notice that the pool was also being renovated, so we could not use that. The room was exceedingly hot and when we tried to call to reception no one answered. I would never stay here again, even when it's renovated. Read less

DO NOT STAY HERE! The pictures they post are NOT accurate. This is such a scam. A guy in the alley behind the hotel saw us wandering around looking for the entrance and pointed to a service door in the alley. This was the "front door". DO NOT STAY HERE! The pictures they post are NOT accurate. This is such a scam. A guy in the alley behind the hotel saw us wandering around looking for the entrance and pointed to a service door in the alley. This was the "front door". Then you walk through a tarp hallway to a desk. Once you check-in you are sent down a hallway with more tarps and caution tape. You see the front door finally, as it's propped open, fenced off from the outside, and used for construction storage and carpet rolls. Then you make it to the elevators that are nothing short of a horror film. One actually opens and closes repeatedly, without ever going anywhere, while an alarm harshly beeps. The room was at the end of a dark hall with wrinkled carpet, the door was ajar and DID NOT LOCK! We did not stay! There is not a pool or restaurant here. It is all under heavy construction. Only parking available is a grocery store lot with posted tow-away signs everywhere and the hotel's "valet" parking. The hotel would not tell me where the "valet" lot was and where my car would be parked for $45. Read less

This hotel is under MAJOR construction and in the present condition I'm not sure why the hotel is open for guest occupancy. Nothing about the hotel grounds, lobby or main floor looks or feels safe. Least of all the elevators to get to the guest rooms. Just trying to find your way to get inside the hotel was a feat. I had to walk around the back of the building where a door was pried open with a sign for hotel entrance. Once on the guest floor things improved. My room was clean and spacious. I highly recommend staying on a high floor. It was quiet and the view was nice. I was able to find street parking 2 blocks away. I would not visit again until the transformation to Hotel June is completed. Read less

Not only is the elevator/lobby situation really bad, they silently charged me $42 for valet parking (I did not have a car) and added a wellness charge (they don’t have a gym but will reimburse for the la fitness day pass) Do not be fooled by hotel tonight or anything else
