Custom Hotel

Los Angeles, USA

The hotel

There’s no escaping it – traditionally, airport hotels go for location and functionality in that order, with style bringing up the rear. Not so with Custom, the only boutique hotel located within a mile of Los Angeles International Airport (not to mention wonderfully close to loads of LA attractions and beach towns). Naturally Custom embraces its location – there’s a dedicated LAX Lounge with live departure times and the ability to print out boarding passes, plus complimentary shuttles to the airport. However, its rooms and suites having a soothing contemporary elegance, there’s a heated pool with cabanas, multi-tiered sun deck, and fire pit, and with Deck 33, you have American Comfort Cuisine, artisanal cocktails and a fine selection of microbrews. Outstanding.

Hotel June has a really nice aesthetic but is missing key pieces that are crucial to a boutique hotel experience. The food is overpriced and subpar, the coffee service lacks- they ran out of espresso at 9 am. The staff all seems annoyed. The windows of our room were so dirty you couldn’t even see out of them. It has so much potential there but… Read more

Seemed like they were not prepared for guests. Housekeeping entered our room twice without knocking while "do not disturb" sign was on the door, staff spilled food on me and I had to wait 15 minutes before I was able to clean up, they ran out of pool towels multiple times. If I hadn't received a discount through AAA I would not have stayed here… Read more

My family stayed for 8 days while we were visiting my brother in Playa Vista. The hotel has a fun, hip vibe. Location is great for easy beach and city access. Parking is by valet only which at $36 a night is a bit steep but the valet service was friendly, quick, and very convenient. We’ll be back!

Yes the design is nice but from an operational standpoint they are so new they shouldn’t even be open yet. My room didn’t have any hand towels, wash towels or bath mat. We just used body towels for everything even though we had asked for more towels. No body soap either. Room has no blackout shade so prepare to wake with the sun. Pool had no pool… Read more

It was quiet on the property, understandably due to the global pandemic. The lobby was the most impressive element of Hotel June which I imagine is a great welcome for anyone checking in, especially those who have just flown into LAX. I have noticed an uptick of hotels focusing their energy on the design of communal spaces, particularly the lobby, with the hopes of providing instagrammable moments for their guests. I support this shift if it also means that hotel rooms mirror that same energy, but more often than not, hotel rooms are becoming increasingly underwhelming and lacking in the high design apparent everywhere else on the property. I observed that at Hotel June. Hotel June refers to itself as a boutique hotel but unfortunately, there are no robes, slippers, or special amenities inside the rooms. The toiletries looked dated. Nonetheless, the property absolutely nailed it with their choice of mattress in the room which is the most important part of any stay. They made the right investment here and I can promise a good night’s rest. After a day in the sun, crips white sheets chilled by air conditioning feel like perfection. We stayed in a corner standard king city view which was dead silent, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The rooms are clean, modern, and bright albeit underwhelming. If you are looking for a safe place to rest your head this will do. Read less
