We had a great stay at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. We were conveniently located next to the City Walk - we could either walk there in 10 minutes or take the complimentary shuttle. Our bed was comfortable and our room was spacious with plenty of seating space - nice view too. We arrived late in the evening on our first night and ordered room service. Our food was tasty and the presentation was well done for our room service delivery. Our family had the breakfast buffet the next morning and although the cafe was crowded, the staff made sure our wait was not too long. We would stay at the Sheraton again. Read less

Worst Sheraton I’ve stayed in. Trim pealing away from the wall, graffiti in the room, and puddles in the lobby and bar. Only reason I even stayed was it’s proximity to universal Studios. Not a nice hotel and crappy Sheraton. Not worth the $.

What can I say about this hotel that is positive...... well the restaurant staff are amazing. That’s the only thing though. Yes this hotel is beautiful and is in a great location. Get rid of the front desk staff, put the kitchen and restaurant staff on the front desk and the hotel might get some good reviews. Won’t go there again. I will go to the Hilton next door. Read less

We were in LA to visit Universal Studios. We selected the Sheraton Universal because it's a Marriott property and its proximity to the park. We stayed for two nights. We booked online and signed up for the membership. No discounts for booking directly with them. No discounts for booking with a new membership. We arrived around 1pm. A room was available, but we opted leave and then return at 3:00pm to avoid the early check-in fee. Checkin at 3 was quick and seamless. We paid for parking and we were given a reusable parking ticket. Getting the car in and out was easy. The elevator and hallway on our floor smelled gross on our day of arrival. It smelled better on the following days. The room was smaller than expected. Definitely size up when selecting the room. The layout very bad vs other Marriott properties making a small room even smaller! When we got to the room the sheets had a dried stain. We called Service, then were xferred to Housekeeping and Housekeeping resolved it immediately. We quickly connected to WiFi and were surfing and streaming in no time. There were plenty of power and USB ports for charging devices. The beds are very comfortable. There is coffee maker with Starbucks coffee packets. Two free bottles of water. The stylish closet, with safe, are very nice even though they were unused for this trip. The couch went unused. We moved the stupid little plant under the TV. Why would you put a decor plant in the way of TV? The bathroom is very nice with a beautiful sink and awesome shower! We used the shuttle to Universal Studios to get between the hotel and City Walk. We were hoping for very close walking distance to the park. We got very reasonable distance to the, but up and down hill, next to a fairly busy street, and through the parks garage. We opted to wait for the shuttle. The shuttle stops at another hotel while en route to the park. It's quick, usually on time and the drivers are very nice. The shuttle arrives every 10-15mins. After our first day out, we returned to the room and found that the room wasn't fully refreshed. Unlike other Marriott stays, the shower and sink soap weren't replaced, the cups and water weren't replaced and the bed sheets weren't changed. We tried our best to reduce our movements in room due to how thin the walls are. We couldn't hear voices, but we hear footsteps, knocking against walls and through the ceiling throughout the night. The noise from the street/city was minimal. Day two, we left a note with a request to replace all bed sheets and removed the sliver of shower soap left. This time, the bed sheets, shower soap, and water (didn't expect that) were all replaced. The cups weren't. One the sheets had a dried stain. We just asked for a replacement sheet. We could have asked for everything else, but usually it's done for us and has become an expectation. We ordered room service once. One minor mistake made and there was a bit of finger pointing before it was resolved. The food was good. We opted against room service for the rest of the stay. The gym is small but gets the job done effectively. There are plenty of towels and water. The gym bathrooms were clean. We didn't use the pool or hot tub, but both we functional and in-use by other guest during our stay. Checkout was quick and easy. Thankfully parking didn't expire on check-out allowing us to visit the park on our checkout day using the shuttle. Overall, the stay was "ok". Lower your expectations if you've visited other Marriott hotels. Service responsiveness is fantastic, but many of the issues they responded to could have been prevented, which would have improved the experience. Special thanks to Leticia and Edgar of the Housekeeping staff. We also saw things about the Sheraton "Club", but no staff members mentioned anything about it. Must be a secret, invite-only club. Also, whose idea was it to put a kiosk and water in front of the portrait wall without first rearranging the portraits? We guest might want to see those hidden portraits while waiting in the lobby!
