LA is such a huge city that it's difficult to find a good location in a hotel. In the W Hollywood you will be at walking distance to the Chinese Theater and Dolby Theater but at an hour drive to Santa Monica Pier. But, for being LA, I found the location of the hotel to be quite good: with a Metro stop at the door and close to Hollywood Highland but not too close to be in all the traffic jams. Everything else in the W Hollywood experience was "meh" to say the least. The W over-the-top decor that you can find in W hotels worldwide here is only in the super nice lobby. Once you leave the lobby, rooms are big but pretty normal, nothing too fancy. Everybody was nice, but the service overall was terrible. I don't think it was any individual fault but the overall coordination was awful. First let me talk about breakfast. I booked a rate which said "breakfast for 2 included". Well, it was a lie. Breakfast for 2 means a 60 dollar credit in their restaurant, which wasn't said anywhere in the reservation process. They automatically add a 17,5% service charge in the restaurant. If you order a coffe + juice + egg dish for two (something standard in every breakfast) you will be past the 60 dollars line and have to pay extra for that. Then you will have to check when you check out, because they will try to charge you breakfast every day, and they will have to discount manually the 60 dollars every day. I found that terrible. Worst, some servers at the restaurant had no idea of the 60 dollars credit. And, at the end, they tried to charge me a room rate higher than the one I booked, and had to wait for 30 minutes for them to change the bill. I would certainly not be back at the W Hollywood. Room and service are at Holliday Inn levels. You pay a W rate just for the nice lobby, nothing else. Read less

Oh my gosh!!! This place is amazing! Beautiful, elegant, very clean and well kept, great gym, spa amazing, outside bar area small and quaint (see Hollywood sign from rooftop), staff is so pleasant, within feet of metro, so much to do in the area we walked everywhere! NOTHING to be disappointed in!!! Even the peep holes are amazing!

Staying in the W Hollywood would have been fine if I was a 20 year old looking to party over a weekend. But I made a massive mistake staying with this amateur operation for a business trip. As a platinum elite member for several years (since 2011) ive been loyal to Marriott hotels and any establishment owned by them, and in return they’ve ALWAYS been loyal to me. I’ve stayed in Ws before , but never have I ever experienced such low level customer service any one of them before. I booked a larger suite as I always do, to accommodate for my appointments for two full days, I have several meetings in my room and I need to display products. Marriotts have ALWAYS accommodated my needs by providing a banquet table where I could display my products and conduct my meetings. It’s never been an issue, when it was problematic for them once they provided me a conference room with all my needs and made I was looked after. They showed an understanding that I was a guest who flew from across the world had obligations for work, and therefore did there job by providing a high level of service and problem solving, but At this poorly managed establishment, that was absolutely not the case. I phoned in 3 weeks in advance of check in, mentioned the need for the tables and was told “absolutely we will have them for you before you check in”. I arrived on a late evening exhausted from a long flight, with meetings the following morning , and not only were no tables they told me “we cannot provide them”! I was in shock and panic , I explained my situation that I could not conduct me meetings if I don’t have a table to display my products. I kept being told NO, NO, and NO. They wouldn’t offer any kind of solution of any sort. The way “Jessica” their manager does her job was literally by reading off a manual. She and her team showed zero empathy towards me as a guest , and as an individual. I called and called for help with a solution and she kept telling me “we can’t send any tables due to a fire hazard” while I just arrived from 3 other marriotts and in my history of Marriott stays I was never told this. They provided a tiny table , and there was at least 100 square feet of space near the door as the tables were to be positioned against the walls of this 900 sq ft suite, I asked them to come up And see for themselves the amount of space there was to ensure legally there is NO hazard. But all they did was read off a manual and tell me NO. I was forced to put my samples on the floor. This was embarrassing, and it DID AFFECT my business. This was just one of a few disappointments with their management in relation to my business trip in LA. Completely inexperienced bunch who are used to dealing with young party crowd and do not take they’re guests seriously nor are they polite to them. You’ll sense an unprofessional attitude at the front as if you’re ordering at Wendy’s. Avoid the W if you want to be taken seriously. Read less

I stayed at the W for four nights on a quick snapshot visit to Los Angeles. The location was great for sightseeing in Hollywood and for easy access to other excursions. The hop-on bus stops right across the street, the subway is right next door and several bus routes stop right outside the hotel. There are also lots of dining options in the neighbourhood. Trader Joe’s, CVS and Walgreens are all within a couple of blocks. I felt very secure during my stay. In addition to the staff downstairs, you need a card to get into the hotel from Hollywood Blvd. and up to the guest rooms. The rooms are clean and spacious. Everyone I dealt with at the hotel was friendly and professional. It would have been nice to have coffee service in the room, but the complimentary coffee on the second floor was fine. Would stay here again. Read less
