I have never in my life been more disrespected and felt discriminated-against in my whole life. Their manager (female) was completely rude she insinuated we could not afford the room! She then harassed us continually. There was a whole family of another race there she did not ask them to put on mask (i speak fluent Spanish) she then proceeded to tell us to exit the building and get mask which had we all been asked to do would’ve been no problem at all but she only asked us and then she talked to me while rolling her eyes and just being outright nasty! I went to take our things to the $854 a night room and decided to go smoke in my car to calm my nerves we were going to go to the pool after so I had on the robe (keep in mind I’m parked in vallet in the front of the building) she sends another employee to chase me down assuming we are stealing the robe. Which they also had a $400 deposit for as it is considered a incidental if I’m not mistaken?! So at this point I have had it it was clear for whatever reason she did not like us and with all the racism and everything else going on in the world I didn’t feel I needed to spend $800 to be treated like a lower class human being and harrassed so I ask if we could just have a refund and leave she said no rudely! Several of Her coworker even stated that apparently she was having a bad day for whatever reason. Needless to say I will not be returning for that reason mainly. All the other staff was polite and very helpful but she ruined my birthday and experience and I nor my colleagues will return. Read less

Staff was extremely rude, not welcoming at all. Had many issues. Jesse was nice and great but Rebecca checked us in and from the start to finish she was nasty. Gave me the wrong room that I booked and gave me a hard time about having a few people in a top floor suite.

Unfortunately, I was mostly disappointed with my experience at the ShangriLa. I reserved a Terrace Ocean View King Suite with kitchen. Parking was not listed as an extra fee upon reservation and is something that should be easily waved at the price and room being reserved. I let it go. As a registered nurse working on the frontlines, I was tired and was just happy to be able to check in early. At first, I was placed in a room without a kitchen. When I notified the front desk, personnel was unaware of what to do and said he would call me back when his colleague returned from break. After moving my car to a better lot to park in, I was told I was going to be moved into a two bedroom room. When I mentioned that I reserved a King suite, personnel stated “we don’t have a room like that” ... I showed him my confirmation email and he responded “well they are under construction.” I made my way to my new room (Room 600), and luckily I had not fully undressed yet because someone (not in uniform but states she works there) had entered my room. I supposed this room was occupied recently and was not checked thoroughly for cleanliness. I asked if that’s what she needed to do, and she stated no. Then I noticed that the terrace is shared, not private, which should also be clearly mentioned upon reservation. The shared terrace door did not lock properly and I had to ask engineering to fix the issue in which nothing was done. The bottom lock was not fixed, I was simply shown that there is a lock on the door knob that did not seem adequate for a shared space. For obvious reasons, amenities were closed such as the pool area, yet the gym was open which does not seem safe during this time especially in an enclosed basement area. Either way, I was charged $25 for amenities that I would not be able to safely utilize during this time. When asked for assistance with the fireplace, I was told “We’re not able to help you with that unfortunately. Our engineer has gone home for the day.” I expressed my disappointment. An engineer arrived about an hour later to assist us with the fireplace. He lit the fire and before he left stated that it would only last an hour. It was a beautiful space, and looked clean for the most part aside from the obvious stains on the couch and pillows on the bed. When we finally ended our day in bed to watch television, the speakers did not work well, so we couldn’t hear the programming without straining even at the TV’s highest volume. We tested both televisions in the room and they both showed the same problem. There was no closed caption option available for us to work around the issue. Personnel that I interacted with throughout my stay at the Hotel ShangriLa seemed inadequately trained for simple tasks and frankly the experience was not worth the money. I don’t see myself coming back. Read less

I booked a one bedroom terrace suite, ocean view with a full gourmet kitchen for my birthday through the hotel's website. At the time of the booking the website showed that there were only 3 available rooms left of this room type. This is during the Covid19 Pandemic. I arrived at the hotel about 45 minutes before check-in and the room was still being cleaned, which I expected. I was told that it would be ready by check-in at 3pm. They checked me in and held my luggage. I returned back at 3pm. still not ready. I was told it would be 15 mins and then 30...it was more like an hour. The room was finally ready at 4pm. Went I got to my room, I immediately realized this was not the room that I booked. They put me in a cramped 2 bedroom terrace suite without a kitchen. I immediately called the front desk. At first she tried to convince me that this is what I booked, until I told her that I'm looking at my email confirmation and this is not what I paid for. She finally said that all of those rooms were booked. I asked her how that could have happened and was given no reasonable explanation. She then offered to "upgrade" me to a luxury 2 bedroom suite..that had a kitchen but no terrace and it was located on the 2nd floor. I declined because I did not want to be near the street. I purposely booked the terrace suite for the terrace and also the view of the ocean from a higher floor. I asked if I could be compensated for the downgrade as I did not request or need a 2nd room. I wanted a kitchen. I was having dinner prepared for my birthday. The front desk person said that she spoke with her manager and she would only credit me the $25 amenities fee. I should mention that this is during the pandemic and all of the "amenities" were closed except for the gym..which I wouldn't set foot in for fear of infection. This charge should not be assessed at all during this time..they are ripping everyone off. She stated that there was nothing she could do and instructed me to speak with her manager, Rebecca, when she comes in the next morning. Trying to make the best out of a bad situation, I asked if they at least had a small fridge for me to hold my food in. They brought in a full sized refrigerator and placed it directly in living room. It took up most of the space, as the living room was extremely tiny..again not what I paid for. I called them again asked if they could place the refrigerator in the spare room..since no one would be using it and it would free up space in the living room area. They obliged. I had to order room service for the evening because I had no way of cooking the food that I purchased. To make matters worse the room was in bad shape. A bunch of the windows were cracked. There were black spots on the walls and the wallpaper was scraped and peeling off. I also attempted to order breakfast for the next morning and filled out the door tab with my selections to be delivered at 9:30 am. I placed on my doorknob at midnight. You have until 2am to do so. I woke the next morning and noticed that at 9:15am and it was never collected. I was so upset, that I decided to forgo breakfast and honestly didn't want to give them anymore of my money. The next morning, I went downstairs to speak with the manager, Rebecca. She basically told me some bs story about how the front desk and the reservation systems are not connected so the front desk person has no idea whar type of room is assigned to each guest. Which is absurd. I recorded everything, so I have a record of her basically saying that I was baited and switched. She refused to offer me any more of a refund and directed me to her general manager to see if he could do more. I feel like they are giving me the runaround. This was done on purpose due to the loss of business during the pandemic, which is completely unacceptable and unethical. She offered to discount my next stay. I will never set foot in this establishment again. I booked this room as an escape from my four walls and the monotony of my everyday life. I expected a beautiful space to enjoy my quarantine birthday and was met with deceipt and anger. I will update my post if the manager, makes this right. But after reading many of the negative reviews, it seems like it is standard practice that the managers are unresponsive. This really ruined my day. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Read less
