Viceroy Santa Monica

Santa Monica, Los Angeles

The hotel

We’re suckers for unassuming packages that reveal treasures within, and this luxurious Santa Monica hotel, just a block’s walk from the Pacific, is a perfect example. It’s simple exterior and minimal signage give nothing away, but step beyond its bright green hedgerows and you’ll find a quietly confident and upscale oasis that positively oozes sophistication. From the modern elegance of its rooms and suites via the library (finished in shades of lemon and dark wood) to private dining cabanas, two heated pools and the Cast Restaurant and Lounge, serving healthy, flavourful cuisine that comes with a side order of sustainability, you just know you’re in excellent hands from the moment you check in.

We were hugely disappointed to find that both the pool, bar and restaurant were unaccessible during our stay. We of course understand that hotels undergo occasional construction, but to charge for a full price room when none of the amenities were available and to give zero notice of the construction seemed highly unprofessional.

Honestly never ever stay here again. Not only is the hotel under complete renovation and is a construction site - offers nothing but an elevator to the room. These are not minor enhancements, it should be illegal to have a hotel open under complete construction, especially a hotel this ilk. They actually tried to charge me a resort fee when there… Read more
Honestly never ever stay here again. Not only is the hotel under complete renovation and is a construction site - offers nothing but an elevator to the room. These are not minor enhancements, it should be illegal to have a hotel open under complete construction, especially a hotel this ilk. They actually tried to charge me a resort fee when there was no resort so the effort alone in fighting charges after they ruined my weekend, was draining. When I asked for the manager to contact me, nothing happened and they honestly could not have cared less. Read less

Thank you! Staff was very kind and accommodating. Room and view were amazing.. even though there was construction, the noise was minimal. I look forward to when the hotel is complete! I loved the happy hour and coffee too.

We had no idea the hotel was under complete renovations until our friend arrived a day in advance. Given the rates charged I assumed there would still be some amenities like at least a bar, but there is nothing. Couldn’t get a hit shower in the room or even a water station in their “lounge”. Too many other hotels around to make this a choice

I am staying at the hotel for two nights for a business trip. Hotel is under construction which I didn't know when booking through my company's travel site. I was notified there is no amenities available at the moment upon arrival, which I understood and am fine with. There is a notification in the front desk and in the room to indicate that construction work starts at 9am Monday to Friday. This morning (2/17), some work started before 8am and full blast work started at 8am. I am in a room facing the back yard and pool and I can see workers working in the pool who are making the noises. I went to the front desk and asked why they are starting work at 8am vs. 9am written on the paper right on the front desk. The front desk person went to ask the manager and came to tell me that they are trimming the trees vs. construction. I told her i can see them working in the pool. She then went to get the manager who came out and admitted the noise was from construction. It is unethical for someone to run a "luxury hotel" by lying to its customers to their face. The hotel charges $300+ a night. It's bad enough that there is no amenities whatsoever. Then start construction early and lie about it is just unacceptable! I am going to send a note to recommend removing this hotel from our hotel list. There are much better hotels to stay in with much better services than this. Read less
