The Lodge at Sonoma

Sonoma, Napa Valley Wine Region

The hotel

An award-winning spa hotel, the Lodge combines authentic artisan surrounds with ultra modern facilities to create a haven of casual sophistication. This place can really be great....IF they pay attention to their rooms. We have so many difficulties everywhere in our room. Faucet leaking, the handle to the patio door came off, the couch had very clear stains, etc. The location is great and the pool was decent.

We enjoyed an anniversary 4-night stay in a cottage suite. Overall, we had a very nice time during our visit. On the plus side, the room was clean and well-appointed, and the grounds are beautiful. We came during the peak of the bloom of the ornamental cherry trees, which dominate the landscaping throughout the resort. The Lodge's location is right on Broadway Street, which is a central artery to all things Sonoma, and about five blocks west of Sonoma Square. All was not perfect, however, and therefore cannot rate 5 stars. None of the issues were showstoppers, but they were discouraging given the price we paid for our room: 1) we had two lights out in the room; we called to report the issue, but no one came to fix the issue and we did not persist in calling; 2) for some reason the main fireplace in the lobby has had a large portion of the stone facade removed, making the whole thing look unfinished; 3) there are two bags of cement stacked near the front entry which were there the day we checked in and there five days later when we checked out, as if no one really cares about the appearance of the resort's entry and first impressions; 4) as part of your $39/day resort fee, you do have access to free bicycles (nice!); however, on Day 2 of our stay someone from staff took one of our bikes out of the rack, piled it with several others bikes on a grassy area nearby (maybe to pump up the tires?) and left it there for the next three days. Once again, sloppy. One other issue: despite being there for 5 days and 4 nights, we did not have any room clean-up at all. We were told this was a COVID-related safety measure, but it actually seems like a major cost savings to the resort. It was a minor inconvenience for us, with the major issue being lack of fresh towels and quite a pile of trash in our room by the time we left. All in all, we had a nice stay and would return--but the issues we experienced do not meet the Marriott standard for outstanding service. Read less

We wish that we could’ve stayed longer! Upon our arrival, we were welcomed there by friendly staff and a glass of wine! The Lodge has a very clean and open feel to it. Very pretty yet comfortable. From the lobby we could see the fire in the fire pit out on the pool/courtyard area. Our suite was spacious and well appointed. The art and furniture gave the space a fun yet nurturing vibe. Very comfy bed and lounging areas! And it was so clean, that I never was concerned. The staff was very much in tune with guests. We noticed they were Very friendly, accommodating, and genuinely happy to be there. We also loved sitting on the balcony with such beautiful pool, landscaping, and Mountain View’s in the distance. We felt apart of a good thing ... yet we also felt we had our quiet privacy too! It never got noisy while we were there. There was also sharp looking horse trailer converted into a bar tucked next to the fire pit and we loved to get coffee and breakfast from the Bean and Bottle just inside off the lobby and pool courtyard. Everything was convenient, clean and spacious. Never once felt afraid of Covid either. I cant think of anything about this hotel that didn’t please me. We cant wait to return back to The Lodge!
