The Lodge at Sonoma

Sonoma, Napa Valley Wine Region

The hotel

An award-winning spa hotel, the Lodge combines authentic artisan surrounds with ultra modern facilities to create a haven of casual sophistication. In the heart of Sonoma’s wine valley, guest rooms are beautifully furnished, spacious and very well-equipped with your own private patio or balcony from which to admire your stunning surrounds. As well as an outdoor heated swimming pool to lounge by and a spa tub, the Raindance Spa is nothing short of world-class. Treatments draw upon the natural healing properties of the region’s extensive natural bounty, including lavender and grape seed, to leave you feeling ready to face the world again! There are restaurants aplenty in nearby Sonoma Plaza but for a gastro treat look no further than Carneros Bistro Wine Bar, named as one of the Top 50 Restaurants in the Bay Area. Delicious dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients are accompanied by a hand-selected wine list – again, all local of course!

We are staying at Lodge Sonoma and highly disappointed at this property, which puts the Marriott Brand to shame. It’s shocking that they are even part of it! They have horrible customer service, no management accountability, and poorly maintained. Be prepared to have to continuously call each day housekeeping— 99% chance it will NOT be executed. If there’s anything you need from them, you only have to call 6-8 times and maybe it will get delivered late at night. Be prepared for them to keep “saying” they will bring it or follow through, and they will not. These very charming rooms include cobwebs, worn down linens as soft as sandpaper (if you’re lucky enough to get them!), broken AC (turns on when set at off), and inoperable phone system. Read less

Can’t believe that this hotel’s aircon is broken! It was ok during the day, but comes nighttime, it suddenly keeps on turning off by itself. Sometimes I can turn it on again, sometimes not. And no, it’s not on auto. The service couldn’t help either and just say: sorry maybe you can do without aircon tonight (!!!). Wall is paper thin, I can hear my… Read more

So all combined, it’s absolutely a sleepless night... Read less

This is a very nice resort. One of the few Marriott branded “resorts” which actually feels like one. The gardens are gorgeous and the pool is quite nice. This is a very nice resort. One of the few Marriott branded “resorts” which actually feels like one. The gardens are gorgeous and the pool is quite nice. As a Marriott Titanium, we got upgraded into a cottage, which was really quaint. Great bed, fireplace, and a huge television on the wall (which we never actually used). Walls are super thin and people get up early but so did we so no complaints there. If you want to sleep in, the cottages might not be for you. Front desk staff was very nice and handed out bottled waters upon request so we could stay hydrated. Now, for the two bad parts: 1. The $37 resort fee. It’s exorbitant. Yes, the shuttle up to the plaza is handy. And yes, the two free sangrias were decent (if very weak). But I don’t see how that adds up to $37. Unless the hotel pays wineries way too much money to come in for tastings each evening, then they are ripping us off. 2. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant. First off, bagels and yogurt as the free elite breakfast is pretty pathetic. But my bigger complaint is that the service is absolutely atrocious. We’ve had this breakfast six times now on our stay. The first time we literally never talked to a server. Ate our whole buffet and were never offered a beverage. We complained to the host/manager at the door and all he did was make excuses about call-offs. No apology. And when we asked for some coffee at least, he directed us to the resort coffee shop. No...we aren’t going to buy it; you go get us some cups to go. Wow. The other five mornings weren’t much better. The entire waitstaff just sits around gossiping and could not care one iota for the customers. We just watched several people complain to servers that the buffet was out of bacon (a rare treat this morning!) and nothing got replaced until the chef came out himself to have a look. Ten minutes later. Literally. With the exception of a male bartender (who actually seems to take pride in doing a good job), every other single breakfast employee in there needs to be fired. I would still stay here again. The location is good and it’s a charming resort. But a few small fixes would make it great. Read less

We are platinum elite and sometimes that is good, sometimes it's average. This resort is excellent at recognizing status and in general provides a fantastic first impression (we are on our first day, and will update once the trip is complete). Annabelle at the front desk was able to contact us remotely when our upgraded room was ready, and was professional, energetic and helpful across a range of questions we had as we checked in. The property is close to a major road and yet is quiet, has music in the pool area which is perfect for relaxing, and in general has been a fantastic initial vibe. The restaurant on property is very good as well! Read less

This place was recommended to me by a friend while traveling there on business. In the evenings, I was able to take the free shuttle from the hotel to the square for wine tastings and dinner. It was less than a 5-minute ride. When you were ready to return, you would just call the shuttle line and they would be there usually within minutes. On… Read more

It was less than a 5-minute ride. When you were ready to return, you would just call the shuttle line and they would be there usually within minutes. On Tuesday nights, the square has a farmers market with live music and food trucks. The garlic crab fries are AMAZING!! The inside of the room was absolutely gorgeous! The pool area also had an increible view. Seriously, my favorite place I have stayed thus far in Sonoma! Best wine tastings in the square: Three Sticks and Pangloss.
