The Lodge at Sonoma

Sonoma, Napa Valley Wine Region

The hotel

An award-winning spa hotel, the Lodge combines authentic artisan surrounds with ultra modern facilities to create a haven of casual sophistication. In the heart of Sonoma’s wine valley, guest rooms are beautifully furnished, spacious and very well-equipped with your own private patio or balcony from which to admire your stunning surrounds. As well as an outdoor heated swimming pool to lounge by and a spa tub, the Raindance Spa is nothing short of world-class. Treatments draw upon the natural healing properties of the region’s extensive natural bounty, including lavender and grape seed, to leave you feeling ready to face the world again! There are restaurants aplenty in nearby Sonoma Plaza but for a gastro treat look no further than Carneros Bistro Wine Bar, named as one of the Top 50 Restaurants in the Bay Area. Delicious dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients are accompanied by a hand-selected wine list – again, all local of course!

I haven't been to a Renaissance resort property (just the hotel locations), so don't have a benchmark but it seemed nice. A little minimalist in aesthetic, but apparently they'll be turning it into an Autograph Collection soon so it may get further upgrades/personality. Well located and super convenient shuttle to "downtown" Sonoma. They do charge a resort fee but at least you get a wine tasting for it :) Restaurant was closed as they're updating it (see above) but take the shuttle into town! Lots of good options. I actually stayed in both a "cottage" room (they have a number of multi unit buildings on the property with larger rooms, peaked roofs, fireplaces, etc), and thanks to a cancelled flight, a regular two-queen room in one of the main buildings. Both were nice, clean, comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and thank you Megan (Meghan?) at the front desk both for your excellent service, and also rescuing us with your last two rooms after our flights got cancelled. The Lodge at Sonoma is a very nice property close to the central square in Sonoma. I stayed in one of the cottages for a conference and found the room to be comfortable and well appointed, with a large screen TV, bottled water and other amenities. The main restaurant in the property is under renovation but the smaller cafe onsite was fine for breakfast, and there are many good restaurants in the area, including the excellent Sunflower Caffe on the main square about a mile away. The conference ballroom was well designed and the staff did a good job with food and service for the conference. My only note to management is that it appears that someone went through one of my bags while I was out of the room. Nothing missing, thankfully, from this bag which has my computer and iPad and always keep zipped up when I am out. I called the front desk to report this and they seemed to not be particularly concerned and assured me that no one from the housekeeping staff would have opened the bag. I am not so sure, and always believe that reports like this should be at least acknowledged politely and possibly investigated further as needed. Read less

We've stayed here several times, and have always enjoyed it. We enjoy the comfortable rooms, wine-tasting, swimming pool, hot tub, and lobby decor. This time, however, the restaurant was closed, and guests were crowded into the smaller bar for breakfast and a very limited dinner menu.

And the shuttle service was fantastic in and out of town - on demand. Great drivers (Brian!) with polite and fun service. Only negative was the reception team (morning team only) - not sure what side of the bed they got up on each day, but clearly didnt want to be working there or know what customer service actually means. That said the afternoon and evening staff on reception were superb, friendly and helpful (chalk and cheese!). The restaurant at the lodge also lacks any kind of ambience or decent menu. A shame as its a beautiful lodge and would have been nice to be able to eat in versus going into town - however as mentioned, thankfully the shuttle service and drivers were so fantastic. A pleasant stay overall. Highly recommend eating at Cafe La Haye in Sonoma (make sure you book - don't miss this gastronomic delight of an experience) Read less

I spoke with Emma the supervisor and she went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We ended up paying for a second night. The staff was helpful, responsive and accommodating. Thank you Emma! and to the room service staff who were all very friendly and engineer who kept the fireplace working! The snacks in the lobby are such a treat. The location is key, they have a shuttle bus to the plaza for shopping and restaurants. Lovely swimming pool area - and robes upon request. Will def stay in the cottage again. It was lovely, we will be back. Read less
