The Lodge at Sonoma

Sonoma, Napa Valley Wine Region

The hotel

An award-winning spa hotel, the Lodge combines authentic artisan surrounds with ultra modern facilities to create a haven of casual sophistication. In the heart of Sonoma’s wine valley, guest rooms are beautifully furnished, spacious and very well-equipped with your own private patio or balcony from which to admire your stunning surrounds. As well as an outdoor heated swimming pool to lounge by and a spa tub, the Raindance Spa is nothing short of world-class. Treatments draw upon the natural healing properties of the region’s extensive natural bounty, including lavender and grape seed, to leave you feeling ready to face the world again! There are restaurants aplenty in nearby Sonoma Plaza but for a gastro treat look no further than Carneros Bistro Wine Bar, named as one of the Top 50 Restaurants in the Bay Area. Delicious dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients are accompanied by a hand-selected wine list – again, all local of course!

This is a very nice property conveniently located in wine country that is part of the Marriott brand. What I liked: - The property and facilities are well maintained - The staff was generally very friendly and accommodating - The cottage accommodations were cheerful - It is located about one mile from downtown so you can walk or take the hotel shuttle - As part of the resort fee they have nightly wine sampling - There is free parking What I did not like: - The daily resort fee was one of the higher ones at a Marriott ($42 a day including tax) which is steep considering we used very little of what it covered. - There was no discount afforded to the resort fee like the JW Marriott brand which extends discounts for members with high status - The fireplace in the cottage did not work well - The shower handle fell off the first night requiring repair - One night the fire alarm went off out of the blue and reset - The gym was smaller and not as well appointed as I would have expected. The two bike machine’s screens were not working properly. - The pool was smaller than I would have expected - The pillows were not good, thin and mismatched (feathers and foam) Please refer to my review of Carneros Bistro. We stayed here two nights with our two young children. The proximity to Train Town is nice (across the street), and we used the nearby trail to walk to the plaza (ask the front desk for a trail map). The beds are comfy but we found the room to be a little meh. We had a cottage with two double beds and no bathtub (shower only). Carpet was crusty in spots, furniture was dusty, blinds/shutters were super worn. Surprisingly dark too. Private patio was nice but only two chairs for a room that sleeps 4. Pool was a good temp for April and there were plenty of chairs available there. Overall it was adequate, but we would stay elsewhere next time. Read less

The hotel has a great location in Sonoma very close to the city center. You pay for this location. The amenities are good and there is a heated pool. The gym facilities are acceptable. The breakfast was done very nicely with lots of options. The main benefit is the excellent location which comes at a price.

We used 60,000 points to treat ourselves to a nice night in Sonoma. Very sorry we did this. There were spiders ALL over our room. They would drop down from the ceiling on us while we slept. Ugh!!! The fireplace did not work and we kept getting kicked off of Wifi. We even used it one of our Lifetime Titanium upgrades to upgrade for the night. I… Read more
