The Lodge at Sonoma

Sonoma, Napa Valley Wine Region

The hotel

An award-winning spa hotel, the Lodge combines authentic artisan surrounds with ultra modern facilities to create a haven of casual sophistication. In the heart of Sonoma’s wine valley, guest rooms are beautifully furnished, spacious and very well-equipped with your own private patio or balcony from which to admire your stunning surrounds. As well as an outdoor heated swimming pool to lounge by and a spa tub, the Raindance Spa is nothing short of world-class. Treatments draw upon the natural healing properties of the region’s extensive natural bounty, including lavender and grape seed, to leave you feeling ready to face the world again! There are restaurants aplenty in nearby Sonoma Plaza but for a gastro treat look no further than Carneros Bistro Wine Bar, named as one of the Top 50 Restaurants in the Bay Area. Delicious dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients are accompanied by a hand-selected wine list – again, all local of course!

This is an older hotel in need of an uplift but with little competition around, it may explain why the property just feels tired. To call it a resort and spa is questionable. We stayed in one of the cottages, which I highly recommend. It was roomy and the bathroom was renovated. But the room could have benefited from a complete renovation. Our friends stayed in the main building and had issues with their AC. The restaurant is nice and attached but service was slow on the three occasions I was there. There is a nice in-house coffee/wine/convenience shop. The fact that the property seems dated was not the issue for me. It was the hefty price we paid for the few days we stayed (with the added resort fee for a property that is clearly not a resort) and the overall slow service. The quality of the property and the service did not warrant the high rates. The cottages are worth revisiting, in my opinion, but only if the rates are reasonable or you have Marriott points to spare. Read less

Very, very disappointed in the Lodge. After many stays the The Lodge at Sonoma has lost it's charm thanks to remodeling, refurbishing and management. We have stayed in the cottages several times over several years past with friends when doing wine tastings; we were shocked at the horrible refurb of the rooms. From lodge to lower level dorm room is the best I can describe. We did not see rooms in the hotel though the grounds were still a well kept garden. Generally the hot tub was closed and smelled like chemicals; not sure the pool would have been any better. The towels were rough enough to exfoliate an elephant and basically worn out as well. One towel rack, period. The carpet was late cave dwelling and the room was dark; worst looking furnishing I have ever seen in an expensive resort. Guess it was dark so you would not see just how awful it looked. We were staying on points but they charged our card anyway. Not ever going back. Read less

We arrived at 1030am and didn’t expected our room to be ready. We were added to the waitlist for when the room did become ready and never received a phone call/email. Arrive to the hotel at 530pm to find out 1 of 2 rooms was not ready. Which is well after the check in time. We do go to the room that was “ready” and once we arrive... housekeeping… Read more

Arrive to the hotel at 530pm to find out 1 of 2 rooms was not ready. Which is well after the check in time. We do go to the room that was “ready” and once we arrive... housekeeping was STILL cleaning the room. The front desk wrote down the wrong room. Unfortunately this whole process took more than an hour to settle and definitely ruined our experience. They did rectify by sending an amenity to our room and knocking off $100 plus resort fee. This did help, but overall not the service expected when you’re paying high amounts during peak season. Read less

During the course of the weekend the staff at The Lodge went above and beyond to make the day special. They upgraded us to a sweet and even had a wine and truffles waiting for us after our big night. Special shoutouts to Laurie (concierge - helped us set up our first look photos), Rudy (bellman - awesome wine and chocolates, he even offered some experienced marriage advice) and Kate (front desk - for the awesome "bridal" upgrade). Thank you all for making it a special day! Read less
