Golden Nugget Las Vegas

Virgin rating

The hotel

Boasting some of Las Vegas’ finest rooms and suites after a $380 million dollar transformation, it’s easy to understand why. The accommodation is divided between four majestic towers with wonderful views of the Las Vegas Strip, the Spring Mountains and the hotel’s incredible pool. Then there's the Tank, as the swimming complex is known, comes complete with a shark tank, 3-storey waterslide and 13 private cabanas for hire. There’s also an infinity pool, aptly named The Hideout, which is strictly for adults only. Other temptations include a superb spa with steam rooms, sauna, massage and beauty treatments plus a state-of-the-art fitness centre to work off those American-sized portions! Several restaurants are at your disposal, including Vic and Anthony’s, one of the country’s finest steakhouses. Alternatively, head to Chart House for sumptuous seafood, Red for Pan-Asian cuisine or Grotto for Italian fare. Come sundown, Troy Liquor Bar is the place to be with a lively atmosphere, DJs and exotic cocktails. An incredible hotel with an incredible range of amenities, look out in particular for the Hand of Faith in the lobby - a 61-pound gold nugget found in Australia in 1980 with a metal detector just six inches below ground – now that’s Lady Luck at her finest!

Our first time not staying on the strip and we’ve been to Vegas over 6 times. Freemont and golden nugget were great! Def recommend and def staying here next visit. So much to do and in walking distance!

As an older hotel, it exceeded my expectations in an area considered Old Vegas . Very convenient to experience the Fremont Experience. However, the Casio was limiting for due the smoking conditions. Louisiana is smoke free in the casino, however, I didn't manage to play a little.

nothing like it used to be. We were regular customers at the Nugget for well over 25 years before the pandemic. This was our first time back since 2018 and we were looking forward to returning. The first problem was the price. Instead of my normal $49 casino room rate, we paid over $140 plus I opted for an upgrade to the "Rush Tower" to have a more modern room. Total, $198 per night. The room was ok but nothing special for that price range. we were also taken aback by the lack of maid service. It turns out that even at almost $200 per night, you have to call and ask for cleaning service and pay a fee. Never again. Parking has also changed, not just at the Nugget but seemingly throughout the city. We used to enjoy going "Casino Hopping" during the day. See the latest new facilites, play a little bit, and move on. We always would use valet parking and made sure we tipped the attendants, both in and out. Now the parking fee at the Nugget was $15 per day. Free parking was available in the garage across the street, but we have always been used to using the valet service. When we went sight-seeing on our first day, we discovered that all of the strip hotels were charging for valet parking, even if you gambled, and the rate was anywhere from $15 to $35 per day (even for 1 hour). That certainly curtailed our excursions. Back at the Nugget, we also discovered that there is no more Keno. I understand, but it is just a little thing that we missed. Our other main problem was the casino. I have never seen a "triple zero" on a roulette wheel before anywhere in the world. I did not know they had such a thing until I hit it and lost on the spin. When I asked about it and why were they changing this centuries-old game, the answer was simply to make more money and reduce the players' chances and that all of the roulette tables were like that now. When I was going back to my room I passed another roulette. It did not have the triple zero. The next night I played at that table. I lost all of my buy-ins (it happens). What bothered me was the next morning when I talked to the Casino host about our bill. He said that his records showed that I did not lose any money that night. He verified the buy-ins that I made, but there was no record of me losing the money so there was nothing he could do. Overall, lack of service, huge change in pricing, and no cooperation from the casino host department all leads to a negative review. I know that we will never go back to the Nugget and therefore will probably not go back to the down-town area again. Read less

Been coming to the GN for over 25 years. Can't beat the location and I've always felt that it's a cut above the other downtown hotels. Unfortunately, it's obvious that the hotel has switched from a policy of creating happy customers to one of trying to get every penny they can from you without providing any value in return. 1. Hotel is not being maintained. Rooms are falling apart. Our suite smelled of smoke so bad it woke us up at night. 2. Elevators are always broken. Long waits to get to the ground floor. This has been going on for years. 3. Extra charges for everything. There is nothing too small to give away. I was told by a rude woman who answered the phone in housekeeping that I would NOT be getting 4 additional coffee pods in my suite that has a coffee maker that I stayed in for 4 nights. Really? Thats where your hotel wants to draw the line? Have you ever been to another hotel? 4. Casino has tightened considerably. Higher spending required just to get a drink. Put $200 into a barside poker machine and was not offered a drink until "the little light approved me". Very unpleasant! Additional "tax" to play blackjack at every table? 5. No room cleaning without prior request. Even after requesting at check-in, there was no service until I complained directly to the housekeeping manager. 6. Wi-Fi was either not working at all or very weak signal. This is not acceptable in any hotel in 2023. 7. Web site and all IT services are absolutely horrible. This was agreed to by all hotel staff that I mentioned it to. Gotta be someone's brother-in-law that runs the IT department. Worst internet interaction of any business I ever use anywhere!! That's saying a LOT. I doubt very much that anybody will care about this feedback. Obvious that the casino owner is putting the squeeze on short term profits. After 25 years as a customer, it's time for me to go someplace else. Too bad. I'll miss you Golden Nugget. Read less
