Peppermill Resort & Spa

Nevada, USA

The hotel

What started as a simple coffee lounge, opened by two friends in 1971, has evolved into one of Reno’s most spectacular destination hotels. Winning multiple awards for its gaming, dining, and entertainment, Peppermill Reno’s one of those places you could stay inside for months – if you do venture out, you’re right in the shopping and dining district, near downtown Reno, with complimentary parking if you fancy exploring beyond the city limits. Besides the 24-hour casino and Game Lab, featuring retro arcade machines, you get 2 stunning Tuscan-flavoured pools, a 3 storey spa with secret garden, complimentary WiFi, EDGE Nightclub, copious lounges and bars, and 10 restaurants. Dining experiences range from the sublime to the ridiculous (often simultaneously): think tucking into seafood under jellyfish lights, or dining on prime steaks by a virtual aquarium. Every detail is deliciously ostentatious.

My husband and I stayed in a luxury suite in the Peppermill tower. The entire hotel reeked of cigarette smoke, and the extra charges tacked on to the $160 room rate were ridiculous. The room plus fees plus 2 breakfasts came to over $278! We could have stayed in a very nice Airbnb for less than that.

I booked a Luxury Suite in the Peppermill Tower, the main draw being a romantic getaway with my husband, complete with a whirl pool bath tub and sauna shower. The room was nice we had fun the first night, ate dinner at Romanza (wonderful dinner very romantic, shout out to our server Jeff, lemon cheesecake was amazing). However the second day we came back from lunch to the most disgustingly putrid sewage smell permeating throughout the room. It seemed to have started in the bathroom, however all the drains in the room smelt like it. The maintenance man they sent up per my request said that it was the most disgusting smell and he didn't understand where it was coming from or why. He poured simple green down the drains to get rid of the smell leaving a chemical smell behind... So gross and harsh on my asthma. Then we had an air purifier sent up, that helped a little bit it was so loud. We ended up going out to get away from it all instead of being able to fully enjoy the room as planned. Kinda bummed out about it. Put a damper on the last night of our anniversary weekend. I know things happen and all but I was disappointed still. With that being said Miriam T at Chi that night was amazing in assisting my husband and I on our dinner date. :) The kitchen messed up my order and leftout the cashews in my cashew nut chicken dish, when I asked where the cashews were she had the kitchen remake the dish as advertised. Great service and such a sweet lady all night long. People like Jeff at Romanza and Miriam T at Chi are the reason I'll come back at least to eat not sure about staying at the hotel again. I want to,just not sure I want to chance another encounter like the one I just had. It is a beautiful casino and amazing eateries though. Read less

Peppermill does not seem to care about people’s safety! I bring my family to the peppermill every time they come into town and typically this casino prides themselves in being safe and not allowing profanity on the table, except for last night. Being a solo female gambler I thought I was safe. This man verbally attacked me in front of others on the Black jack table and threatened to find me, said the most vulgar things, and threatened my life!! The Pit boss, Tiffany, came to the table and said there was a language barrier even though the dealer clearly was trying to tell her what happen. Unbelievable!! They allowed him to walk to another table! How does a place that is upscale with the triple A four star rating allowing a man to threaten a girls life and not take action??! I spoke to security and asked them to walk me to my car and will follow up with a report as I was extremely shaken and a scared yesterday. Peppermill’s tolerance of this kind of abuse is not okay! She checked and said my room was still not ready, but she requested the cleaning now and could do pre-registration for me. She said it should be ready soon and somebody will call me to get the room key. At least the first lady could have asked to clean the room or register me so I don't have to wait in the queue again for 45min for no reason. Now another 1hour has passed, and there is still no call for room key. The foyer is very noisy crowded with people. I wonder why they could not have more agent to help people out. And here I am, after arriving for 3 hours, still no room. Very bad experience!. Read less

We have been coming here many years and have gradually seen a change from the old owners with the new ones about 5 years ago. We have been coming here many years and have gradually seen a change from the old owners with the new ones about 5 years ago. The comp policies are less liberal and the slots compared to downtown less loose. No more free rooms as a resort fee that is taxed on "free rooms" However, biggest issue to us is the decline of the fine dining. We ate at Bimini and again excellent service but mediocre beef and horrible caesar salad. chi was good with soup and mo shu pork but then our pad thai was about inedible. Last visit we ate at Romanza and not very outstanding. Hence, we continue to go out and will do so every night for good dinners. Read less
