Peppermill Resort & Spa

Nevada, USA

The hotel

What started as a simple coffee lounge, opened by two friends in 1971, has evolved into one of Reno’s most spectacular destination hotels. Winning multiple awards for its gaming, dining, and entertainment, Peppermill Reno’s one of those places you could stay inside for months – if you do venture out, you’re right in the shopping and dining district, near downtown Reno, with complimentary parking if you fancy exploring beyond the city limits. Besides the 24-hour casino and Game Lab, featuring retro arcade machines, you get 2 stunning Tuscan-flavoured pools, a 3 storey spa with secret garden, complimentary WiFi, EDGE Nightclub, copious lounges and bars, and 10 restaurants. Dining experiences range from the sublime to the ridiculous (often simultaneously): think tucking into seafood under jellyfish lights, or dining on prime steaks by a virtual aquarium. Every detail is deliciously ostentatious.

We normally stay at GSR but decided on a whim to give Peppermill a shot. We booked 3 nights in a suite. Overall couldn’t win on anything. Lost a little over $6000. Hey that’s gambling. When we went to VIP services to have them comp our $600 in food charges they refused. A first for us. We spend about $75000 a year on our gambling primarily in… Read more

This will be the first and last time we give Peppermill our business. Read less

I stayed here one night coming back from a road trip, so I wasn't here for the gambling. I just wanted a comfortable, clean, and inexpensive place to sleep, and it was much cheaper than the non-casino hotels in Reno, even with the $30 resort fee factored in. I booked the Standard King in the North Wing, which by the photos appeared to also be the most tasteful and quiet. But when I arrived, I was "upgraded" to the Peppermill Tower because the North Wing was temporarily closed. On the bright side, the room was spacious, clean, and had a decent view of the surrounding area and mountains. The interior design choice of this room can only be described as gaudy and ostentatious Italian faux classical. I still cringe at the hideous white vinyl sofa and chairs. Not my style at all, but it served its purpose of providing a comfortable and quiet room for the night. I'd also like to point out that the hotel has clearly posted signage to require masks when entering the casino, and all patrons seemed to be complying. This made my short stay more relaxing and worry-free. Read less

An annual tradition spoiled by unhealthy decibels of the music poolside. To make matters worse, I requested it be turned down. Which pool staff did. But then as I walked away, they turned it up two or three notches. And this happened twice. So I took that to understand just how little customers are cared about here.

This is not a casino with any benefits other then their profit margin. Unconcerned and poor customer service is not a membership benefit I appreciate I would expect that good customer service would increase with the Covid endemic. That has not been my experience and I will be a former member.

Half of restaurants are closed. The one that was open had only ONE server and it was a 2 hour wait. Room service was one and a half hours and double the price. I understand Covid; however, that is ridiculous for a hotel/casino/resort/spa.
