Harbor View Hotel

Cape Cod, New England

The hotel

There’s enough nautical navy, whitewashed wood and rustic rattan at Harbor View Hotel to put you straight in the Cape Cod spirit. Surrounded by historic Edgartown homes, once owned by whaling captains, you’ll find the odd bit of maritime memorabilia adding to the seaside theme, but it’s the dining and entertainment that really set the scene. Alongside the tapas and New England microbrews of Henry’s bar, the casually cool Lighthouse Grill brings island sourced produce and views of Edgartown Lighthouse and Harbour. Featuring in top hotel lists by travel aficionados including Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazine, this Martha’s Vineyard favourite comes alive each summer with events like yoga on The Great Lawn, adult-only swim sessions, family sandcastle competitions, water balloon games, and crabbing at the lighthouse.

After a room mix-up at when checking in was professionally solved by Sebastian Caldwell, the Front Desk Director, our visit couldn't have gone better. The new GM Chris Bird seemed to be everywhere and made our guest experience outstanding. And the 4th of July Banquet, dancing and guest amenities on the porch made for a memorable day. Bravo, Harbor View. Your back and better than ever! Read less

Had dinner on the porch at the Harborview Hotel, and the food was absolutely horrible and over-priced. I live in Edgartown and was so horribly disappointed by this restaurant. They should be embarrassed.

The best part of our stay was just hanging out in the rockers on the porch for morning coffee - watching the harbor activity. Would definitely return here again and again. Read less

I am a travel agent and my husband and I spent three wonderful nights at the Harbor View hotel and we LOVED everything about it. The hotel is under new ownership and they are doing a terrific job. It is in a wonderful location walking distance to town and the beach with a beautiful Harbor view. We loved sitting on the rocking chairs on the fabulous porch that goes on forever and having a drink while enjoying that wonderful view. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. The two restaurants and the two bars were also incredible with great food and drink and incredible service. Hats off to Chef Patrice for his delicious dishes. BTW- When in the bar or restaurant you must order a Roxanna or a Bettini. Two great drinks named after the new owners children. The 1, 2 and 3 bedroom cottages are wonderful for families and have kitchens and living room areas and porches. The service at the hotel is wonderful with the manager Chris and also Liz on top of everything. The people at the front desk were very pleasant and made us feel very welcomed upon arrival. If you are going to Martha's Vineyard there is no other place to stay. Read less

My husband and I stayed here for 3 very lovely days after heavily researching all other hotels and bed and breakfasts. We know now we made the right choice. The renovation is beautiful and the staff is so kind and helpful. We stayed in the Captain Bradley cottage and our room had a very spacious balcony over looking the pool area and we could almost see the water through the tree in front. The room felt large and had a walk in closet. The bathroom a little tight, but renovated nicely. Plush towels, nice robes and great toiletries provided. We didn’t have neighbors until our last night and unfortunately with the historic nature of the housing, could hear them laughing and talking until close to midnight. We used the bikes available on more than one occasion, and loved the Mercedes drive program. We also ate breakfast at the hotel everyday and it was really good. They have spa water in the hotel lobby daily and give you water bottles in your room to fill up. The view from the porch is stunning and is far enough away from the heart of town that it’s tranquil— yet an easy walk or quick bike ride to get to most restaurants and shops. Only reasons I’m not giving them 5 stars are this: -the hotel is still under some serious construction (not the main hotel, but the pool bar and right section of the hotel). Hammering and sawing woke us up every day at 7am.... and continued throughput the day— including the one day we had nice weather and decided to sit by the pool. Not sure if the noise experience would be the same in the main hotel building, but from our cottage it was quite loud. -we wanted to take one of the cars out (the only one remaining at that time) and the receptionist told us that the owners daughter needed it so we wouldn’t be able to use it. -the pool is salt water— but isn’t heated... or at least not turned up warm enough. We were cold being in there on a 70 degree day. That being said— we will return to the vineyard and we will likely book the harbor view hotel again! It feels like they’re still perfecting the details as they get the hotel fully open. We think we stayed at the best hotel and felt a lot of value in the price with all the extra amenities. Read less
