Harbor View Hotel

Cape Cod, New England

The hotel

There’s enough nautical navy, whitewashed wood and rustic rattan at Harbor View Hotel to put you straight in the Cape Cod spirit. Surrounded by historic Edgartown homes, once owned by whaling captains, you’ll find the odd bit of maritime memorabilia adding to the seaside theme, but it’s the dining and entertainment that really set the scene. Alongside the tapas and New England microbrews of Henry’s bar, the casually cool Lighthouse Grill brings island sourced produce and views of Edgartown Lighthouse and Harbour. Featuring in top hotel lists by travel aficionados including Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazine, this Martha’s Vineyard favourite comes alive each summer with events like yoga on The Great Lawn, adult-only swim sessions, family sandcastle competitions, water balloon games, and crabbing at the lighthouse.

On my wife's birthday weekend, we enjoyed a delicious meal with friends at Bettini's on Friday night and lodged at the hotel on the fourth floor - despite the fact that we had a house on the western end of the island to which we could have driven! Dinner was delicious and the service impeccable (no shortage of staff at the HarborView!); a more enjoyable meal couldn't be had. My wife's impulsive last-minute decision to stay at the hotel that night was rewarded by a facility that is the equal of any luxury resort. We had a very restful night, leaving early the next morning after a perfect breakfast at a window table at Bettini's. We returned on Sunday for a special birthday brunch, poolside. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, placing umbrellas to provide ideal shade. I enjoyed one of the best (spiciest) bloody mary's ever while others quaffed Mimosas. As other reviewers have mentioned, don't expect any bargains at the Harbor View - but don't forget that it is the nicest hotel on the Vineyard, a true resort with ALL of the amenities. Truly wonderful! Read less

Exceptional hotel with breathtaking views. On our first night, we watched a beautiful wedding in session from our own porch, which overlooked the pool, and was steps away from the harbor. Excellent customer service. I heard, “Please let me know if you need anything,” more than several times during our stay. This is a hotel like no other; it is a special place because of their kindness and courtesy, and their ability to understand people, which cannot be learned. This is their trademark. Every time we stepped into their Mercedes they remembered our names and the kind of music we liked. While sitting at the pool one day, Tony hand delivered us flowers, and chocolates from Salt Rock Chocolate Co, because it was a special occasion. Not every hotel would do this—if any. I would highly recommend The Harbor View Hotel to anyone. We didn’t have to travel far to have a true island experience. It will be an experience we will remember forever—thanks to: Tony Gatto, an amazing man with an innate intuitiveness; Quinn a special, kind soul; Jean an exceptional customer service head; Nick, a strong ability to help, and serve in need of crisis; Mike (with sunglasses) an excellent communicator with a willingness to help at any moment; Jack, a funny guy with an uplifting sense of humor, as well as Leah, Jason, Billy, Miahe, Marika, Zan, Sofie, Christina, Jessica, Mike (2), Courtney and others. Thank you, again. Read less

We booked two rooms here for 2 weeknights in June for a quick trip to Martha’s Vineyard. I’ll begin with the positives: Beautiful views of the Edgartown lighthouse and the ocean with a lovely wrap around porch where we enjoyed our morning coffee and evening cocktails from the restaurant. This was a definite highlight of the trip- absolutely serene. The location was quiet, about a ten minute walk from “downtown” Edgartown meant that it was quiet but so easy to walk into town for shopping or meals. Depending upon how busy they are, they offer golf cart rides into town as well. The pool is really nice, they have pool attendants to set up your towels and umbrellas as well as servers so you can order food and drinks. Now the negatives: It’s pretty outrageously priced for what you get. The rooms are fine, but definitely not worth the price. We had a room on the third floor and you could hear everything from the room above us: opening and closing drawers, letting their kid run around until 11 PM, and it kept us up at night until they went to bed. I went down to the lobby, but there wasn’t much they could do. The next day they agreed to move us to another building where we could have a room on the top floor. Ultimately, I wasn’t particularly impressed with their service considering what we were paying to stay there. Even offering free breakfast or drinks would have helped, but they didn’t offer us anything else. For such a short stay, having to unpack and repack and unpack again isn’t particularly convenient. First class hotel beautifully furnished. We had room 910 in the Roxana Building with back balcony that looked out on well-groomed lawn/blooming flowers. The king bed and shower were nice. This hotel lived up to every one of our expectations from location to the room and facilities. The setting is perfect, the rooms were modern and clean and the staff was fantastic! They could not have been more friendly and helpful. We walked on the beach, took the hotel bikes into Edgartown and did some shopping. We will be back!
