Harbor View Hotel

Cape Cod, New England

The hotel

There’s enough nautical navy, whitewashed wood and rustic rattan at Harbor View Hotel to put you straight in the Cape Cod spirit. Surrounded by historic Edgartown homes, once owned by whaling captains, you’ll find the odd bit of maritime memorabilia adding to the seaside theme, but it’s the dining and entertainment that really set the scene. Alongside the tapas and New England microbrews of Henry’s bar, the casually cool Lighthouse Grill brings island sourced produce and views of Edgartown Lighthouse and Harbour. Featuring in top hotel lists by travel aficionados including Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazine, this Martha’s Vineyard favourite comes alive each summer with events like yoga on The Great Lawn, adult-only swim sessions, family sandcastle competitions, water balloon games, and crabbing at the lighthouse.

From the moment we checked in we felt a sense of relaxation not experienced in all of 2020. The accommodations were immaculate, well-designed, well-curated, and ideal for our family. The staff was professional, helpful, friendly, and responsive. We ate at all the best restaurants on the island, and the food here, both the breakfast room service and the dinner service, was the best we experienced. Whoever is running the restaurant deserves a raise. It was delicious, and well conceptualized. The extras of having available fleet of Mercedes vehicles to use, bikes to ride around town, and the on demand golf cart that could bring us to other locations was above and beyond. I had never been to the vineyard before and after this experience we we'll be making this an annual tradition. Highest of recommendations. Read less

The Harbor View is definitely the nicest hotel on the Vineyard. They had very friendly service, great views, nice pool area with food & beverage services. We had a seasoned staff member check us in, I wish I could remember his name! He was a customer service all star. He was our first experience walking in and he went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Manager maybe? Also the gentleman running the pool was extremely friendly and the young man who helps with your bikes, bags or anything else you might need! If you aren’t staying private, this is definitely the way to go! We will be back! Read less

I second all of the other reviews about the quality of property and service, so I'll take a moment to talk about the extra mile they went for us. We visited to celebrate our anniversary, but the restaurant where we booked our anniversary dinner closed their patio because of the weather and we're not ready to dine indoors in this COVID environment. We told our story to James, Harbor View's Restaurant Manager, and he came up with a plan to set up a formal dining table in our room and had a waiter serve our meal as if we were sitting in the center of the dining room. The food all arrived piping hot and delicious. Read less

From the minute we booked a reservation, it was clear the level of service was going to impress. We elected to atake the people-only ferry straight to Edgartown, and were told there would be a golf cart that would pick us up at the dock, just phone when the Ferry was pulling up. It saved a short brisk walk, but was a good start to a warm welcome. We visited end of August/beginning of September, early on in the re-opening of hotels in MA. We witnessed a well choreographed, high-energy change-over every day. Upon arrival, we were told our room wouldn't be available until ~4:00 P.M., but had no issues going back into our luggage a few times. The front desk was quick to explain current challenges associated with keeping us safe; pool-time was on a sign-up basis, we were able to get a 2hr window every day of our visit without issue. Dining was on the ample and comfortably large wrap-around porch, with a well designed menu with something for everyone. Signature drinks kept the adults happy. For local activities in Edgartown, in addition to beach towels the hotel provides (first-come, first-served, no charge) beach chairs, umbrellas, bicycles, and three Mercedes cars for up to 3-hour use. Our room was quite large, lucky enough to get a room with a balcony looking down onto the pool. The pool area was quite relaxing, great for splashing around for families or relaxing with a drink and snack. They have a few pool-side cabanas available on a per-day rental (we opted not to go that route). As our stay approached the weekend, we decided very last minute that we wanted to try to rent a jeep to take to the Aquinnah/Chilmark side of the island on Saturday. Their concierge was extremely helpful, finding the last rentable jeep available on the island for us. Aside from providing credit card and signature, she took care of everything...the jeep was available the next morning outside the hotel, all we needed to do was check in with the valets. At the end of a long and fun-filled day, we handed the keys back to the valets. It was completely hassle-free. The front desk staff area was always busy, but the new front office manager Michael Noonan kept us feeling like we were the only family needing assistance. I couldn't have been more pleased with the overall level of service, and have no hesitation about giving the Harbor View Hotel a strong recommendation. We will be coming back. Read less
