Harbor View Hotel

Cape Cod, New England

The hotel

There’s enough nautical navy, whitewashed wood and rustic rattan at Harbor View Hotel to put you straight in the Cape Cod spirit. Surrounded by historic Edgartown homes, once owned by whaling captains, you’ll find the odd bit of maritime memorabilia adding to the seaside theme, but it’s the dining and entertainment that really set the scene. Alongside the tapas and New England microbrews of Henry’s bar, the casually cool Lighthouse Grill brings island sourced produce and views of Edgartown Lighthouse and Harbour. Featuring in top hotel lists by travel aficionados including Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazine, this Martha’s Vineyard favourite comes alive each summer with events like yoga on The Great Lawn, adult-only swim sessions, family sandcastle competitions, water balloon games, and crabbing at the lighthouse.

If the price is not a concern, you can find fine food. We called for dinner thinking our reservation was for the dining room only to find that the bar was the only option. We were quite surprised to find that the renovation of the bar area was all quite dark from top to bottom. Not at all what one would expect for an island hotel. The menu was all tapas, nothing else. As an individual, you can buy six items for $70 but the table cannot. Also available for individuals, four items for $50. Otherwise, individuals may select single offerings for prices from $14 to $42. Why the table cannot enjoy a package deal, is hard to grasp. We questioned the policy of selling the same thing for two different prices, but the floor manager- after agreeing with us - was unable to change the policy. Crazy! The food is delightful, the pricing quite frightful. The house white wine $20 for a light pour. Other wine offerings seem to be $14 and above. Sounds and looks like Manhattan and is certainly not island style. Read less

The room had an amazing view and the staff were lovely. We dined in Roxana Bar. The menu is quite fun with offerings from many different cuisines. Everything was fresh and seasonally inspired. There is a cheese plate with local cheese made on the island and seafood is is a recurring theme. The food was playful, not too serious, just great ingredients carefully prepared. Overall, we cannot say enough about the makeover. There is a definite character to this hotel that makes the it a stand out. We will be back! Read less

We made the long drive to this hotel and while the weather was balmy, overcast, this heated is the best part of our trip to Edgartown. The staff were awesome, the concierge so engaging! I m sorry I haven’t had a chance to comment right after the trip, but we made many memories and mostly appreciate the manager who discovered my husband had some limitations and restrictions and upgraded us to a captains cottage. It’s the best treatment we have EVER received on a trip, they cottage was amazing, all we wanted to do was hand out on the property. Watched the filming of a automobile commercial, sailboats going in and out of the harbor, sitting on the beautiful porch and enjoying coffee. All so memorable, thank you Harbor View!!! Read less
