Harbor View Hotel

Cape Cod, New England

The hotel

There’s enough nautical navy, whitewashed wood and rustic rattan at Harbor View Hotel to put you straight in the Cape Cod spirit. Surrounded by historic Edgartown homes, once owned by whaling captains, you’ll find the odd bit of maritime memorabilia adding to the seaside theme, but it’s the dining and entertainment that really set the scene. Alongside the tapas and New England microbrews of Henry’s bar, the casually cool Lighthouse Grill brings island sourced produce and views of Edgartown Lighthouse and Harbour. Featuring in top hotel lists by travel aficionados including Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazine, this Martha’s Vineyard favourite comes alive each summer with events like yoga on The Great Lawn, adult-only swim sessions, family sandcastle competitions, water balloon games, and crabbing at the lighthouse.

Everyone at the property was so welcoming, especially the front desk staff. Every time you walk through the lobby you are greeted with a smile and an enthusiastic conversation about how your day was. Everyone always had recommendations and fun activities to do, our favorite was using the hotel bikes and exploring the island. We stayed in a newly renovated Roxana room, which was beautiful and came with a free bottle of Prosecco, and who doesn’t love a free bottle of bubbles! 🥂 If you come to visit, I highly recommend just sitting on the veranda of this hotel, overlooking the little lighthouse and watching the boats pass you by. Again, our stay was lovely and as a guest, I was truly delighted! P.s. very good lobster roll as well! Read less

We were expecting superior service since it was renovated under new management. My wife is Chinese, and we expected top quality Asian service. We were sorely disappointed. It has a great location in Edgartown, but it is not worth the high price. we checked in and there was only a College student at the valet and what seemed like a College… Read more

It has a great location in Edgartown, but it is not worth the high price. we checked in and there was only a College student at the valet and what seemed like a College student at check in. There was nobody else around. we had reserved a Roxana room with a free bottle of Prosecco and cookies. we had to mention twice about the Prosecco before it ever got delivered. Beware of the Roxana rooms. There is no elevator in the 3 story building, and the AC is horrible. Definitely NOT a 5 star Hotel. Read less

We just got back from a 4 night stay at the Harbor View. We've traveled extensively and stayed at some pretty amazing places. This rates among the top echelon where we've stayed. You don't realize how great excellent service can be until you experience it. I'll start with Adele in reservations. She saved our trip. Jet Blue cancelled all the flight into Martha's Vineyard through the end of June. I called to try and change our dates and spoke with Adele. I was driving and didn't have access to the internet. Instead of changing our dates, she ended up helping me book flights with a different airline for the same dates. She even pulled up their website and gave me options for getting to MV from Cleveland. We "had" to add an extra night because of flight availability, but she informed me there was a special that if you pay for 3 nights, you get the 4th night free through then end of June. She made my day! Once we arrived, we were treated incredibly well. Carlos should be singled out as someone who goes above and beyond on every level. He has a very pleasant demeanor and was helpful to us in many ways. From ensuring that the Mercedes was available, having bikes ready and waiting for us, giving great sightseeing and restaurant recommendations to following through on a very special request, his service was exemplary. I know they were short-staffed because of the inability to bring in their usual seasonal help, but we never thought it was a problem. Speaking of which, Wendy in housekeeping did a wonderful job and was very pleasant despite having many more rooms than normal to cover. Overall, we found everyone with whom we interacted to be top notch. The property itself is in a wonderful location and incredibly well-maintained. We stayed in a King Deluxe room in the Historical Building. They did a great job with the renovations - I love the color scheme. The bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. The shower was fantastic, but the bathroom was definitely small. We loved sitting on the veranda! We had dinner and breakfast there. It was a bit odd because of the Covid restrictions in that you have to order and pick up your own food at the bar if you sit outside, but it was worth it. It is a wonderful way to relax, sitting on the porch and watching the boats go by. I hope we are able to return someday!! Read less

Due to new ownership my 2010 review was removed. My wife and I stayed here in the summer of 2010 and were treated like royalty. The property is beautiful and the staff was fantastic. Go! You will enjoy it!

We arrived at Harbor View Hotel in the midst of the COVID -19 crisis and off season. The hotel stayed open even though they were supposed to be closed half way through our stay to honor our reservation. And with this, we had full service in terms of the concierge, housekeeping and even breakfast. The rooms are bright, modern with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay, but also in keeping with the lovely seaside environment in their style and decor. The lobby is where we hung out, by the cozy fireplace. Restaurants were closed so we ate take out on our laps and played family games. Overall, a fabulous experience full of warmth and kindness.
