We have been to the Mayflower many times. The level of service during our most recent trip was exceptional. We loved the new renovations. Cozy rooms , elegant decorating. They treat you like a part of the family.

The Mayflower promises what it can't deliver. The rooms are beautiful, the staff is kind and truly trying, the property is lovely... and that's it for the good. The overall impression of the Mayflower is of a disjointed, badly run corporate hotel -- happy to take your money but unable or uninterested in offering guests a good experience. It had previously been an independent inn that was purchased by the Auberge group and the transition has clearly not gone well. If you're here for instagram pictures, you're in luck but that's about it. As with most luxury goods, if cost is not a concern, this review probably doesn't matter: A getaway is getaway and it sure is pretty there. But if a vacation of this kind and cost is something special, something saved for and unusual, I strongly caution you to go somewhere else. During our short stay, literally everything was an issue of some kind. The room was not the one we'd reserved. Every food order was wrong or had something missing. Spa was overbooked. The kitchen closes at 9PM and there is no way to order breakfast for the following morning (no card to hang on the door, etc). After every problem there was an apology but no actual change. Again the process feels like corporate quality control more than real concern for your happiness. There seemed to be no communication between different branches of the hotel with each section treated like an entirely different business with no central concierge for booking (for example, if you call the desk to make a dining reservation they tell you to call or email the dining services, ditto spa, etc. Something that smooths the process and would easily be possible to do for your guests -- most hotels do.) I'm inclined to make a lot of allowances for the stresses of operating a hotel during COVID times, but the problems here very clearly did not stem from that. If anything, their COVID practices seem bizarre and poorly thought out: No effort made to minimize the time staff spend guest's rooms - E.G no room service carts, so everything must be brought in by staff members on a tray then arranged, turndown service never came while we were out so we stood awkwardly to the side in our masks while the room was turned down every night. Normal flatware and plates but coffee is served in paper cups "due to covid precautions." Etc. Just odd. The Mayflower sounds and looks perfect on paper but in reality, for us at least, it was an ultimately frustrating borderline unpleasant experience. It's a true shame. We'd hoped this could become a go-to escape, but instead I felt compelled to write this review (something I never do) to warn others away. I'm sad this place wasn't better. The redesign is lovely, the staff are clearly trying hard (Ashlyn and Ashley in particular were very kind.), I hope they find a way to bring appearances and experience one and the same. Read less

What an spectacular stay! There was absolutely nothing that felt short of our expectations. We visited in February, during covid, and with lots of snow falling outside 😬. We felt very safe in regards to covid. Staff and guests wearing masks (and properly wearing them!). Hotel grounds are very cute and well kept, decor is beautiful and very elegant, you will notice in every single detail. We were told that they renovated during covid last year. We got a premium guest room, which was very comfy, with a fireplace, a separate living area, and a big bathroom. Room decor was beautiful, in line with entire hotel. Service was excellent throughout our entire experience: checkin, breakfast, dinner, room, cocktail class, etc. They have a spa, where you can book the pool just to relax, or have a massage, and they also offer several wellness classes. They also offer different experiences, like cocktail class. We took the cocktail class w Orlando, which was excellent! We had lots of fun, and learned a lot. The food is absolutely delicious. Every single thing we ordered throughout our stay was divine. Fresh, with lots of thoughts put into it. The night we arrived they were offering a Sweatbread Po’Boy sandwich. It was fantastic!!! They should really consider putting that on regular menu. We would totally come back for that. We also had the ribeye steak (sooooo good), desserts were also excellent. Sincerely, really really good food (we are from NYC, we travel around the world, we love to eat, so I assure you we know what good food is ☺️). Even though it was mostly snowing during our stay, we really enjoyed our stay at Mayflower Inn. There is a very cute porch where you can enjoy reading, have a glass of wine, or just relax seeing the snow fall. We are glad we got to know this place, which is so close to us. We will definitely be back. Very special place! Oh, and by checkout, we were giving these cute lollipops, which its stem is biodegradable and contains seeds for you to plant! I loved it!!! *Just one little suggestion for the team: having an itemized bill at checkout, so we don’t need to wonder what charges were what. Itemize everything and then apply the credits (if any), so we know exactly how total bill was calculated :) Read less

My fiance and I stayed overnight in the main building to celebrate his birthday - room 37, which was lovely. We attended the Field and Farm cocktail class with Anthony, who was equal parts knowledgeable and personable. We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks beside a bonfire in the gardens - Ken tended to our needs, and we much enjoyed his conversation! Our dinner was delicious - our server Kathleen was hospitable and attentive. The welcome/front desk staff - Logan, Ashley and Ashlyn to name a few, made us feel at home from minute one. The celebratory bottle of champagne left in our room, accompanied by a handwritten note from the director of rooms, was the icing on top of an already extremely impressive cake! The experience was worth every penny - we will be back! Read less
