Great location with a wonderful view of the harbor provided you are staying on one of the higher floors. We were able to capture some beautiful sunrise shots from our room on the third floor. Hotel was very clean and staff was friendly. We enjoyed the evenings with the piano player in the bar area. It would be really nice if you could grab a bite to eat at the hotel, but there was nothing available. While there is a restaurant on the property, they only serve breakfast and the food was subpar for the price. The hotel is located on the side of a hill, so if you are planning on taking the shuttle into town you will need to be able to walk up and down the long driveway to catch it. Town is only 5 minutes away so we just took our car; however town parking is challenging so be patient until you find a spot. The swimming pools were nice. Read less

Lovely resort hotel with old time charm. Common great room offered comfortable seating and outstanding, personable pianist, Bill Trowell, most evenings. Plenty of room for children and families, with only minutes to downtown Bar Harbor. Downside is no restaurant in the main hotel, and breakfast at the Looking Glass Cafe was a drive up the hill.

There were so many good-to-excellent reviews that I disregarded the few that received a 1-2 rating. After booking our room (for 3 nights) at $329/night over the phone, I did some internet research and found rooms available at $160/night. I called the front desk and was absolutely assured that the lower priced rooms didn't have a view, were not "as nice", I "wouldn't be happy with them," etc. So I bit the bullet and stayed with the $329 room, assured we would be much happier with our more expensive option. After all, the website's pictures depicted very nice rooms. When we were handed the keys, we were told our room was in the back building. I asked what happened to the "nice room with a view". The person waiting on us was very curt and said we could have a room in the front building if we wanted to pay (starting at) $529/night. We declined and hoped for the best. Were we ever surprised when we opened the door. Our room was incredibly dated. All the furniture was scratched and should have been replaced years ago, the mattress had very large lumps, heavy draperies that I very rarely see any more, outdated bathroom (albeit clean), a bathroom window that wouldn't close thus throwing off the a/c (it was an extremely hot and humid evening/night, etc.) yada, yada, yada. One of the reviews mentioned what I just complained about above--but I chose to ignore it since so many reviewers loved their room. Apparently, my $329/night didn't buy us much. Even at $160/night, it would have been overpriced. I called the front desk and cancelled the following 2 nights. We packed up in the morning and headed out of Bar Harbor. Not only did I find the room awful, I also found the woman at the front desk to be very discourteous. The entire experience was extremely disappointing. I support the "lone dissenter" reviewer and suggest you find better options nearby. Read less

In a sea of positive reviews about a nice hotel in a nice location, it feels odd to be the dissenter, but for the price you pay and the multitude of excellent choices nearby, I'm afraid I can't recommend this Inn. In a sea of positive reviews about a nice hotel in a nice location, it feels odd to be the dissenter, but for the price you pay and the multitude of excellent choices nearby, I'm afraid I can't recommend this Inn. The facilities are nice, the rooms are nice, the view is nice, all worthy of 4 stars. What's not 4 star is the service. They managed to turn a delighted customer into one frustrated enough to write this review. Judge for yourself from my story, and see room recommendations at the bottom. I hope you find this helpful. I booked 3 rooms for my family. All have the same layout, are on the same floor, and are the same price. However, 2 of the rooms have a standout feature: a high end massage chair. One of the 3 rooms did not have a massage chair. I called the front desk to see what my options are. The curt reply: "Our computer doesn't show which rooms have massage chairs." Really? A hotel that doesn't know which of it's own rooms don't have a key differentiating feature? I asked to check another room, again a curt, "No. We are fully booked." Really? Strange that I saw cars driving in behind me that had not checked in yet. No customer focus at all - no apology, no offer of a small token "peace offering" like a breakfast voucher, nothing but a gent who sounded exasperated and wanted me off the phone. Not the typical experience even at 3 star hotels. If you still want to patronize this place vs other better options nearby, avoid room 339 - rooms 338 & 330 do have the chairs. Again, I hope you find this helpful. Enjoy beautiful Acadia! Read less

We stayed 3 nights while visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor. Stayed in Second floor of Mizzentop. There is a huge difference between mizzentop which are hotel rooms and the others which are like motel rooms. Pros: Amazing view of the bay even from second floor Great sunrise Huge rooms! We had two adults and two teens sharing a room with two doubles Balcony Fireplace was great! Nice indoor and outdoor pool Nice lounge area with bar open until 10 Close to town Fridge, microwave, good coffee maker Comfy bed Great shower Cons: Too far to walk to town IMO, but finding parking in town was not too hard It’s on the main road which is super loud No food or room service Food at looking glass is not as good as in town, i’d skip breakfast here Wish the beds were at least queen size Staff is a little uppity Indoor pool is a short walk from mizzentop Can hear piano below and people walking above, but it was not a big deal Hard to get temp right because there isn’t a thermostat I would stay here again based on the price, location and views, but only in Mizzentop.
