I had a horrible experience today at the Hyatt Palace Portland, ME with Avery Windham the Manager on duty. Avery humiliated and belittled me in front of other hotel guests. I feel I was discriminated against based on the fact that I am a African American woman. I was having a wonderful stay and was scouting out a host hotel for my custom group tour to Maine for 2021. I walked the dog, had breakfast which he served me and my daughter only 2 hours earlier prior to this incident. I was running several last minute site visits to local restaurants and shops. Mr Avery let me in each time and even chatted was my friend about us returning the following weekend so his actions completely caught me off guard. After my 5th entry back in hotel after running in and out all morning. He stopped me and said, how can I help you? Are you a guest in the hotel? I said, of course I am a guest you have seen me coming in and out and even served me breakfast this morning. He said I need your ID and I said my ID is in the room. He said I will need to contact the room. I said my friend is on an important conference call you must wait but I cannot believe you don’t remember me. You are humiliating me in front of other guests. He continued to insist he didn’t know who I was and had just gotten to work. Then Paul the maintenance man steps in and says yes she has been here for the past 3 days, I have seen her. He still continues to not let me up to the room even after Paul spoke up for me. I greatly appreciate Paul saying something but he still disregarded what Paul said. Finally after his continuous rings to the phone in the room my daughter stepped in the hallWay to answer because my girlfriend was on an important work conference call. My daughter (12years old) said I hear my Mom in the back ground why are you giving her a hard time. Is it because she is Black? My daughter asked him, would you be doing this to any other guests? I am so disappointed with the experience I had this morning at the Hyatt Place. Read less

We were in room 508 which had a great view towards the harbor. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. And they even have a sound machine at your bedside! Only complaint would be $25 for parking (i am just cheap when it comes to that) and the fact that they allow dogs. I am severely allergic to dogs and I cringe when i see them in the lobby as well as on the elevators. If you are going to allow them, limit them to certain rooms on the lower floors. Read less

We stayed in Portland for one night, and this hotel was a great choice. We got a great deal and our room was clean and comfortable. The staff was super helpful, and gave us great recommendations of nearby food options. The hotel is located close to great bars/restaurants.

The hotel is located in a great area within walking distance of many great restaurants and shops. Our room was clean and included a sitting area that was more comfortable and separate from the bed than is usually found in hotels. Staff very helpful in providing walking maps, recommendations, etc.

We were greeted with smiles at the front desk and they were prompt with checking in. We went up to our "port view" room (which I paid extra for) and as it was spacious, the port view was not there - our view was of the buildings around us (not wait I paid for). Other than our view, the room was clean and beautiful. We had a couple mile walk around downtown Portland and came back to our room after dinner. It was quiet and the night sky was beautiful. I did see reviews before our trip about the club across the street being extremely loud, but it was not. It was a light sound in the background - we fell asleep fine! The bed was a bit hard for our liking but it was a fine sleep. Overall I give Hyatt Place Portland - Old Port a 4 out of 5. I highly recommend this hotel for a romantic stay in Portland! Read less
