Kennebunkport Inn

Maine, New England

The hotel

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in a quintessential New England town, the Kennebunkport Inn fits the bill! Casually elegant with attentive staff, the Inn was once a tea merchant’s mansion and, despite modern updates, captures the appeal of that era perfectly. Stay in the Riverhouse, which is adjacent to the Main Inn or a few steps across Dock Square in their Wharfside Building – both locations are close to a variety of local attractions, restaurants and activities. When you’re not sightseeing, spend a while simply relaxing on the furnished porch or sundeck, soaking up that unique Maine atmosphere. Continental breakfast is complimentary, as for dinner, look no further than The Burleigh, much acclaimed by locals and guests alike.

That's the room we stayed in and I can say that it was the most comfortable nights we've slept away in a long time. I will say he is correct with the fact that the deadbold doesn't work easily which we brought to the attention of the front desk. It's an old inn so I guess I don't expect everything to be a new hotel standard. I can say that the staff both in the hotel and the restaurant and bar were very cordial and nice and did whatever they could to help you. The area is beautiful and we are already planning our next stay. The food was good, the staff was great, and the room was clean and the beds comfortable. What more can you ask for??? Job well done! Hotel property is very nice and location is unbeatable. Service and food options are not good, with front desk service actually bad. Regular day Continental breakfast is a joke - store bought cranberry muffins, store bought spice cake, apples, and strawberries -- and the strawberries ran out. When we asked, they said they didn't have any more... 40 minutes into the 2 hour breakfast service! Brunch service on Saturday was OK food wise, but very slow! 1.5 hours after sitting down, I had to go to the front desk since we'd miss the 11 am checkout as we'd been sitting at brunch since 9:30 am (to which the front desk said they'd make an exception and give us 15 minutes -- really? an exception because your restaurant is super slow). The waiter on the brunch service seemed like a seasonal worker pulled in for the brunch service, not a professional wait staff. The hotel has just basic things missing, for example, during cocktails at the bar we asked for bar nuts, or popcorn, and they said they didn't have any, and during brunch the kitchen couldn't do a side of mayo as they said they don't have mayo. Finally the front desk staff also seemed like seasonal staff and not professional staff -- they couldn't recommend hiking trails or walks (even thought KPT is surrounded by conservation areas), and restaurant recommendations were limited to what we could find by ourselves looking out the front door. Their attitude overall was just snarky. Not a good experience overall. Read less

Chose this location based on Trip Advisor reviews. Booked through Booking.com. Stayed in room 324. If this room is indicative of the Inn, then the Inn is a dump. We checked in later in the evening, so rushed off to dinner before inspecting the room. Got back after night attendant went home (10:00 in slow season). When getting ready for bed noticed the following: Dead bolt in door doesn’t work. Shower/tub dirty and pitted. Shower head filthy. Room was hot, however temp was set to 70. We turned off thermostat and temperature never went down. Called desk but no one there. Thought we would open a window. Of the 2 windows, one was screwed shut. The other would not stay open. Had to prop it open with a book. It was 27 degrees that night, so room cooled down. Closed the window and temp went up again as if heater was on. Had to open window again until it got too cold again. This went on all night. When I addressed with desk attendant the next morning, I was told that she would authorize a full refund, but had to go through booking.com for approval. We left for another city that morning and contacted Booking.com. They agreed we deserved the refund and would arrange with Inn. Found out the inn now refuses to give refund. I tried contacting directly and they do not return calls. I received a survey from them, explaining in detail our experience, and no response for 4 days. So, the room was unacceptable, the employee agreed, said I would receive full credit, and now I am back on west coast and they won’t even return my calls. Don’t stay here unless you like freezing at night, have a tool box and don’t mind picking crust out of your shower head. Extremely disappointed. Read less

There are lots of fun and unique shops to explore. The KPT Inn is in a great location - right in the downtown area and everything is in easy walking distance. The rooms we generally stay in are very nicely appointed, and always very clean, and comfortable. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. We will definitely continue to stay here. Our only negative about this spot is the appetizers served at the bar - this is the second year where we were very disappointed in the bar menu choices. We love just hanging out at the bar, playing Scrabble and sipping a beverage along with some appetizers. There were four dismal selection choices, and the same as last year. There needs to be some additional choices of suggestions: hummus plate, charcuterie board, nachos, etc. to accompany the four other options (or replace the options is a better idea). Read less

We recently stayed in the hotel. Great accommodation and atmosphere. Ideally situated for such an town of great character and charm. Breakfast just ok but so impressed with everything else. Would definitely recommend the hotel and its convenient location to all amenities.
