Portland Harbor Hotel

The hotel

Located in the heart of the Old Port, relax in one of Portland's most inviting hotels. It’s the little things that make a difference when you’re away from home. And Portland Harbor Hotel’s thought of them all – little wonder it’s received the AAA Four Diamond Award for the last 12 years. There’s the complimentary Starbucks coffee each morning; the free bikes for exploring downtown Portland (and free town car if you fancy a more leisurely ride); the bar bites accompanying that day’s martini special at the happy hour; the chance to taste Maine’s famous seafood at Eves at the Garden; and the turndown service with a naughty pre-bedtime chocolate).

I stayed at Portland Harbor Hotel in Maine for 3 nights, room 433. The morning of our departure (10/31/19), I accidentally left behind my necklace in the room as we were hurrying to head to the airport super early in the morning. Shortly thereafter, I called the hotel several times trying to locate my missing necklace--I've spoken with staff, left a message for the Housekeeping manager, spoken and emailed another Manager directly (this particular manager said he'd look into it and call me back). Nothing. No call back, no response to my email dated 11/5/19. I'm quite disappointed in the handling of this particular issue. This leads me to believe that this hotel has some dishonest employees--ones who perhaps would not turn in an item found in the guest rooms. Read less

Travelled to Portland for a couple of nights with friends and after coming from a tiny, noisy room in Boston & we were just blown away by this place. Perfecty positioned, large comfy rooms with the friendliest staff we encountered on our whole trip, highly recommend.

We enjoyed everything about our stay (3 nights). The valet parking was a great convenience and was needed because of the central location of the hotel. We walked everywhere easily in the port area. Travel to other destinations was easily accomplished with quick access to highways.

We hadn't been to Maine in thirteen years, at which time we also stayed at the Portland Harbor. This past week was a reprise of 2006, and we were most pleased with our visit. The entire place has been refurbished; when this took place, I don't know, but the condition of walls, carpets, etc. was excellent. Our king room had comfortable floor space, and the re-do included a clever floor treatment: carpet under half the room where the bed is, laminate floor for the remainder. A big plus is the oversized armoire, in which are slow-closing drawers, small fridge, deep-pocketed door shelves, and automatic lighting when you open either door. Also the room had a bureau with a fold-down panel that could be used as a desk. Only minor quibble was that the small bed pillows weren't too comfy. And.... chamber service included evening turndown! Nice to return to the room after a night out and find the bed readied and small bottles of water on the nightstand, plus chocolate lobsters (for sweet dreams). The small workout room seemed redone also, and stocked with water bottles and fresh towels. The small lounge on each floor has a Starbucks coffee machine, which freshly grinds beans for each cup (or provides hot water for tea; it also makes hot chocolate). These gadgets are worth the trip down the hall in the morning, as opposed to those dreaful in-room coffee pots (that nobody uses). Friendly staff and the hotel's superb location make the Portland Harbor a fantastic lodging choice. Read less

The rooms well appointed and loved the nautical theme. We had the jacuzzi king that faced the courtyard. It was perfect. Plenty of light. A sitting area and a nice large bed. The bathroom even had a private loo. Really enjoyed this home away from home. Parking is under the building and valet only. Turn down service was nice with a bottle of water and a chocolate shaped like a lobster. nice touch Read less
