Portland Harbor Hotel

The hotel

Located in the heart of the Old Port, relax in one of Portland's most inviting hotels. It’s the little things that make a difference when you’re away from home. And Portland Harbor Hotel’s thought of them all – little wonder it’s received the AAA Four Diamond Award for the last 12 years. There’s the complimentary Starbucks coffee each morning; the free bikes for exploring downtown Portland (and free town car if you fancy a more leisurely ride); the bar bites accompanying that day’s martini special at the happy hour; the chance to taste Maine’s famous seafood at Eves at the Garden; and the turndown service with a naughty pre-bedtime chocolate).

The location is perfect! Centrally located to everything. The staff was super friendly and the rooms were awesome, clean and comfy. We really did need more time in the area. We were doing a coastal trip (so only few days) and can’t wait to come back. So many options in the area for things to do and places to eat. Valet was easy and the… Read more

The location is really great and the rooms are well appointed. I did find it to be a wee bit on the pricey side for the size of the room. I had a room with one King bed ... can't recall the name of the category on the website. The longest wall of the room sat at a diagonal, cutting the size of the room substantially. Not a big deal, but given… Read more

Not a big deal, but given that it is Portland and not a major city, the price seemed a bit steep for the size of the space. The valet parking guys are the best part of this hotel! Every single one of them was fantastic. I interacted with them more than anyone else at the hotel and they were super friendly and very helpful. They even ran up to retrieve a stuffed toy that my dog forgot (well that I forgot). Read less

Located in the old port area of Portland, this hotel has a lot to recommend it. It is well appointed and stylish. The staff is courteous and friendly. And the hotel welcomes well behaved dogs, which is a plus for us, as we have a yellow lab. Our complaints are several and detract only marginally from our overall assessment. One is that the valet… Read more

And the hotel welcomes well behaved dogs, which is a plus for us, as we have a yellow lab. Our complaints are several and detract only marginally from our overall assessment. One is that the valet parking, at $22, seems high for Portland. The other is the desk/dry bar setup in the somewhat cramped room - there was no electrical outlet for plugging in a laptop. The hotel does offer things like bicycles to borrow and other nice amenities, but a useable workspace would have been appreciated. Read less

This Hotel met all of our expectations. It was convenient to the shops and waterfront by foot. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was subdued, tasteful and five star all the way. What more can you ask for?

Just stayed 3 nights at the Portland Harbor Hotel. Booked here based on TA reviews and location. This was our first visit to Maine, so we wanted a theme that fit with the surroundings and this place was ideal. Pros: Very friendly service started with Victoria at check in. She was warm and enthusiastic about her city. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly, including the housekeeping staff, bartender, hostess, and valets. There is a complimentary town car for guests who need a ride anywhere downtown. There is drinking water on tap on each floor, turn down service also provides a small bottle of water and a little chocolate lobster. Rooms are charming and kept clean/well stocked. Robes, slippers, ironing board, plenty of charging outlets and drawers were nice for multiple occupancy. Location was perfect - right in the middle of everything. Cons: There is coffee available each morning 0630-1100, but no coffee or tea service in your room should you want something outside of these hours. I would note that there are chain pharmacies or convenient stores nearby, so to get a soda or other sundries you'll have to search around a bit. Yes the place was nice and yes the service was great - however given the steep room rate ($500+), I didn't feel we got anything that reflected this value. Read less
