Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel

New Hampshire, New England

The hotel

If you like messing about on the water, this is the Portsmouth pad for you (and not just because of the heated pool inside). Just a stroll from Picataqua River, it’s an easy walk to the docks for the city’s harbour cruises – and you get glimpses of the water as you amble around the property. Some of the best views are from the casual but creative Two-Fifty Market – tucked away under the sweeping staircase of Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel, it’s a contemporary setting for classic dishes and New England favourites, including those ‘must tries’: lobster rolls and clam chowder (although it’s the harbour views that steal the show as you dine). The waterfront location also puts you close to Market Square, which throws you into coastal New England life, and to sights like Strawbery Banke Museum and historic Moffatt-Ladd House.

We thought an overnight to Portsmouth NH would be nice after spending time in our townhouse in Campton. I called Sheraton reservations - twice - the day before we planned to go. Wanted to make sure they were open. Spoke with two different people (they were very nice) and the second time secured a reservation with a credit card. The confirmation was emailed to us. They indicated there were plenty of rooms. Drove over two hours and when we went to check in, we were asked the purpose of our visit. Because we were not essential workers, we were not allowed to stay. Now I understand hotels need to follow the governor's order, but surely a reservation system for such a major hotel should have noted that NO reservations were to be made! The clerk said they were trying to call people if they had our phone. It appears that there was virtually no one at the hotel. Well, I wasn't asked for a phone # AND they certainly had our email address. SO, after walking around beautiful Portsmouth, we turned around and drove back to Campton. Fortunately, the drive wasn't so long that we couldn't turn it into a day trip - but really, Sheraton, you should have done better! Read less

Fantastic, clean, comfortable hotel. i cannot stresss enough how clean and corona free the rooms felt....if thats even a thing but even down to the remote control, it was one of those germ free remotes. It was quiet and the resto was not open due to corona so i cannot speak on it. Perfect location on the water. I would return for leisure in two… Read more

Hotel is perfect to walk around 4-5 blocks over for great pubs, bars and restaurants. And there is plenty to do and see. Hotel bar was nice and bartender Chris was super nice with advice on local sights. King bed room was just ok. Bathroom only had one light over the sink. Nothing near the shower. Very odd setup. Pool is in the lower level of the hotel. Just a room with a pool. No hot tub. Gym looked brand new. BIG downfall is $25 a day to park across the street. That is just crazy to charge. We already paid enough for the room and parking is not included. That was disappointing. Read less
