Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel

New Hampshire, New England

The hotel

If you like messing about on the water, this is the Portsmouth pad for you (and not just because of the heated pool inside). Just a stroll from Picataqua River, it’s an easy walk to the docks for the city’s harbour cruises – and you get glimpses of the water as you amble around the property. Some of the best views are from the casual but creative Two-Fifty Market – tucked away under the sweeping staircase of Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel, it’s a contemporary setting for classic dishes and New England favourites, including those ‘must tries’: lobster rolls and clam chowder (although it’s the harbour views that steal the show as you dine). The waterfront location also puts you close to Market Square, which throws you into coastal New England life, and to sights like Strawbery Banke Museum and historic Moffatt-Ladd House.

We love this hotel and have been coming for over 10 years as often as we can get to Portsmouth. The location is perfect to walk to everything in town and the amenities are fantastic. The pool, the fitness center and the club lounge are all family favorites. The rooms are always spotless and in great condition. On our most recent trip we had spectacular service from Christine in the club lounge. She was so friendly, kind, and attentive to our needs when we were there. She helped make our experience top notch. We also were treated so well by the staff during our check-in process although I didn't catch her name. We had a few special requests for our accommodations and Patrick the evening manager saw to it we were well taken care of. Read less

Family stayed in 2 rooms for one night. Good location and friendly, helpful staff. Hotel decor is worn and outdated. Not very clean. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool. An investment to keep the hotel clean and modernize it would go a long way

It's the best hotel for going walking on Market Street where all the shops and restaurants are. It's literally right there, steps away. the bar is very nice, good service. the check-in was fast and courteous. the valets were quick. No downside at all.

The Portsmouth Sheraton is in in the thick of it all. It is near so many interesting/savory restaurants. There is also a ton of shopping within a quick walking distance. Downtown is a quick and easy walk, the hotel was clean and the staff were quite friendly.

We really wanted to love the Sheraton Harborside. The location can't be beat and the lobby and gathering areas are wonderfully inviting, with many thoughtful additions such as a piano, board games for guest use, a refresher station with fruit infused water and a morning coffee station. The restaurant/bar offers great nightly drink specials that make staying in a pleasant and affordable option. The front desk staff were all friendly and helpful; the valets were great (although at times overwhelmed); and the club lounge staff was top notch! In all our years of travel we have never found a club lounge staff member as helpful, attentive and thoughtful as Christine. (A 5+ star employee who deserves special recognition!). Our fourth floor room was spacious and looked like it had a recent facelift with newer- appearing carpeting and furnishings, extremely comfortable beds, plush towels, and some bathroom updates (newer tub and toilet) The bathroom counter had seen better days, however, and the wonderful addition of a magnifying mirror would have been much more useful if only the light had worked. The downside to our visit was housekeeping. Our "clean" sheets appeared to be dirty with smudges of what looked like makeup and mascara and the bed skirts were stained as well We did report this, and the housekeeping supervisor couldn't have been nicer, making sure the linens were changed for us. Unfortunately, however, there was a general lack of attention to detail in room housekeeping including bathroom cleanliness issues, a good amount of dust on the dresser top, unvacuumed floors including large pieces of popcorn under the bed from a previous guest, and toiletries not replenished during our stay despite obviously empty shampoo and conditioner bottles. We would have loved to give the Sheraton a 5 star rating as it has so much going for it, but room cleanliness is a big deal to us. Read less
