Vanderbilt Grace

Rhode Island, New England

The hotel

Welcome to one of Newport’s famous mansions, built by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt himself in 1909. Recently restored to its former glory, it combines unmatched heritage with a modern service ethos that has made it the recipient of numerous hospitality awards. A welcoming glass of champagne sets the mood, after which you’ll be delighted by the sheer sumptuousness of your guest room. There are two swimming pools to tempt you, one indoor and one outdoor, the latter the perfect suntrap in summer. Alternatively, head to the Spa for one of the Vanderbilt’s signature treatments, including the Duet massage, perfect for couples, mothers and daughters or best friends. The bright and airy Conservatory is a wonderful place to linger over breakfast or lunch, whilst the Muse is renowned for serving outstanding cuisine in an historic setting. Before dinner, sip on a delicious Grace cocktail whilst tapping your toes to some suitably Jazzed-up music.

Perfect venue for a wedding; great staff; impeccable attention to detail. Great location in the heart of Newport. Room was fun- a suite with an upstairs. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone hosting a wedding or some other event on the smallish side (50 to 60 people).

The Vanderbilt is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Newport. We walked to everything from here. The building is elegant, the staff is helpful and pleasant. The roof top bar was closed but we plan to visit next month to enjoy that as well. The pool and fitness center are a nice perk.

I traveled to Newport for two nights on the spur of the moment, two days before my birthday. The Vanderbilt looked lovely on the website, and I decided to splurge a bit. The staff was delightful, and the details, including a welcome glass of prosecco, still, sparkling water and fruit in my room were a beautiful touch. Unfortunately, however, the overall experience was not great. I did not sleep either night that I was there, as the heating unit was extremely loud, and kept turning on and off all night. It was a cold night, so I could not turn it off. In addition, the room I was in was close to the nearby church and there were bells every hour on the hour. Lastly, the food left much to be desired. I am a vegetarian, and the options were limited. I went with a vegetarian quesadilla and couldn't finish it because it was very salty. Read less

We found the hotel to be outstanding in every way: the staff, accommodations, food and service. Add to these attributes the fact the hotel is within walking distance of many Newport sites. You won’t be disappointed.
