Hotel Vermont

Burlington, Vermont

The hotel

There’s something inherently cool about Hotel Vermont. And its effortlessly quirky edge makes you feel cooler just for staying there. Completely down-to-earth, it takes you back to nature in its dining venues and guestrooms, where oversized wooden headboards, stone tiles and woolly blankets fuse earthy modesty with urban polish. It may have its soul in unspoilt nature, but both feet are firmly in the gadget-packed present, with all the mod cons you’d expect, and plenty you’ve never considered, including Vermont’s fastest WiFi, mobile and tablet charging stations, and Instagram Scavenger Hunts with Vermont treats as prizes. Finishing touches include jazz and trivia nights, farm-to-table dining, a yoga studio, and bedtime stories. And they’ve added extras to guarantee a genuine Vermont experience, including the Beer Concierge’s craft brew tours, a local Activities Coordinator, and hotel bicycles.

This is an excellent hotel to stay. The rooms are modern, funky bathrobes and a novel idea for coffee, ice etc.(there is an coffee, ice station on the corridor). The breakfasts were good and the staff helpful, even though there are staff shortages. The only reason for 4 stars is the elevators were very slow! Oh, and sanity at last; all no… Read more

This is our second stay at the Hotel Vermont and we remain underwhelmed. Fine location, but limited views, and exceedingly expensive for a smallish, spartan room. I know they are aiming for the hip VT vibe, but I fear they have missed the mark. Next time we’ll stay truly waterfront and avoid trying to be hip so that we might spread out a bit… Read more

We think the room we rented was the last one available in downtown Burlington when we made our impromptu visit. As a result, we ended up spending about 2 1/2 times what we expected to pay for a room for one night. The staff were all fine and helpful. As a result, we ended up spending about 2 1/2 times what we expected to pay for a room for one night. The staff were all fine and helpful. The room was modern but surprisingly small for the cost and with only one movable chair. The bar was "out" of four of the beverages we would have liked. Unfortunately, the guests next door became VERY loud between midnight and 1 a.m. with much raucous shouting and laughing and lots of profanity. At 5 a.m. the loud laughing guest was retching and we assume vomiting from what we guessed was her earlier drinking. So not much sleep. At checkout after hearing of our night the desk staff did eliminate our bar tab, which we appreciated. Nice staff. Great location. Just way, way too expensive. Read less

The room was not huge, but felt spacious, with a big window that had a wooden unit under it comprised of a window seat right under the window, a desk on one end, and a small fridge and shelves on the other. Welcoming and completely functional. The window had a shade rather than the ugly drapes used in most hotel rooms. There was also an easy chair in the room and good lighting. The design is simple and modern while still feeling warm and inviting. The bathroom design is very cool, with the shower/sink on one side of the entry and the toilet and a small sink on the other side. The shower room enclosure was two sliding doors that met at the corner so it could be open to the room or completely closed off. I was sorry we were only at the hotel for one night and would happily stay there again. Read less

The Hotel Vermont has a stylish nordic look with a nice outdoor space off the bar. Front-desk staff was friendly. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is conveniently-located. The Hotel Vermont has a stylish nordic look with a nice outdoor space off the bar. Front-desk staff was friendly. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is conveniently-located. The overall experience, however, did not justify the $550 a night room price, even considering that we stayed during leaf-peeping season. Our room was small, and a cheap mini fridge, not enclosed by a cabinet, moaned too loudly all night. The touted lake view was more of a parking garage view. There was no room service, and food service downstairs ended at 9:00. The breakfast, not included, was mediocre. One should opt for the Hotel Vermont only if the look of the place particularly matters. Read less
