We chose this hotel because of the location and were pretty pleased with the overall experience. We stayed in a queen sized room near the back of the property. Our room was spacious and came with a fireplace, everything you need to light a fire, and a cute little porch overlooking the woods. Being that this was Memorial Day weekend we didn't need the fire but I could see that being a cozy feature in the winter. The only drawback is the people below us used their fireplace one of the nights and our room smelled smoky, we slept with the sliding door cracked to air it out. They have a stocked fishing pond on the property as well as an indoor and outdoor pool. The pillows on the bed were pretty thin and when we asked for more pillows, they said they were all out so that wasn't the ideal situation. Despite this we still had a good time and the location made it worth the minor inconveniences. Read less

Stayed here Saturday May 25. Pet friendly, in fact she got a cute welcome gift when checking in. Room was nice and clean. Comfortable beds. Indoor and outdoor pools and a nice breakfast restaurant. The entire staff was great. Recommend staying here.

I had mixed feelings about my stay here. I think for the room it was overpriced. When I called to make reservations, I was told that this resort was different than most and amenities like bike rental were free. When I checked in, I was told there was a resort fee that covers things like bikes, wi-fi etc. $40 a day I believe. Golden Eagle seems older and a little dated. I also thought it could be cleaner. There was something stuck to the wall by the little kitchenette and coffee had obviously been spilled on the kitchenette door and the front door and it had not been wiped. It was also hard to locate our building at night despite the paper map we were given. A list of restaurants catering to different diets at the front desk would be very helpful. I asked when we checked in, but he said he had no idea and then named one. When we entered the room, there was a plugged in contraption on the bed (ozonenator). And the tv had sound but no picture. I called the front desk and he came over very quickly and fixed the tv and took the little machine. There were picture hangers sticking on the wall with nothing hanging. Then I saw a mirror on the floor leaning on the bed next to the wall. I think for the price, these details are troubling Pros were that you could drive up to the door and there was ample parking. It was also very quiet. I did not hear anyone else. Read less

My stay at the Golden Eagle didn't get off to the best start on arrival with the member of staff booking me in, being very dismissive and rude. I asked about the bikes that you could hire, only to be told they had finished for the season. I asked about ways of getting up the mountain only to be told, you need to drive. I hadn't hired a car so was going to be rather limited in how far I could get. My room was in a single story block with a patio area, the walls were paper thin and you could hear conversations from either side. The room felt rather dirty and no safe to secure your belongings. After unpacking, I went to take a shower only for the power to go out. Trying to scrabble around to find my phone for a light I decided to give up and go to bed....only to be woken at 3am when the lights came back on! The bed was comfortable and the room was warm which given the cold weather was good. Hot drinks were available in the foyer as well. I used the Eagles Nest for breakfast but they were unable to take card payment so I had to go back and get some cash to pay. Stowe itself is beautiful and the recreation path was lovely to walk along. But unless you have a car, you are beholden to the local expensive taxis. I went to visit the Ben & Jerry Factory which cost $5 to get in and $50 in taxis to get there. Also I had missed the fall leaves due to a big storm a few weeks before my visit. All in all, the resort seems geared towards the ski season and facilities are limited in what they call 'stick season' Read less
