The resort fee seems pretty ridiculous when you look at what you get for the money...which is not much. My family stayed one night and upon arrival we were met by not the friendliest of staff who sent us to the wrong building. So we had to take all our bags back to the car...go to the lobby..and get the right location. The room is pretty a much a motel room...and the first time we flushed the toilet it overflowed soaking the bathroom. The maintenance team arrived pretty quickly and took care of the problem...and then just soaked up the toilet water with towels...enough said. We had the thermostat set at 50 and the room would not get below 75...we actually slept with the door slightly ajar. When I checked out in the morning the front desk asked how my stay was ..I tried to explain to them the issues...but the phone line was cutting in and out. So we just left to ski for the day...oh and if you want to pay 6.00 you can get a continental breakfast! Overall this property needs updating before I spend my money there again Read less

We stayed at the Golden Eagle Resort as it was one of the few hotels available for a last-minute ski weekend. We were given a king bed renovated room near the Nest Restaurant. The room itself was quite large and clean but there were issues. Staff: I feel this hotel is understaffed as every time we visited the reception, the girl managing it seemed really stressed and overwhelmed. Room location: The rooms are all grouped in 'hubs' around the property which means you have to walk outside to access different areas. If you want to swim you will need to dress appropriately to get there and come back to your room which is a hassle. Room: - The fridge didn't work and despite informing the front desk it was never fixed during our stay. - The bed linen was almost non-exisitent. Just a thin sheet and cover. The pillows were really small. There were no additional blankets provided. The bed mattress was also very old and worn. - The thermostat was finicky and seemed to switch off around 2 am every morning. We kept waking up throughout the night to a cold room. The resort fee doesn't make any sense in the winter months as there was nothing much to make use of at the resort. This hotel may be better in the Summer months but in Winter I would definitely go elsewhere. Read less

Stayed at Golden Eagle over Presidents Day weekend with friends and family and had a good experience. The property has a great location on Mountain Road, close to restaurants (Doc Ponds practically across the street in one direction and the Stowe Bee Bakery in the other one), winter sport rentals and fun Main Street shops. My sister and her family went up to the mountain to ski both Saturday and Sunday and the trip to and from by car was fast and easy. I did some cross-country skiing both on town trails and at Von Trapp - easy to get to as well. My sister’s kiddos loved using the indoor pool, hot tub and rec room at Golden Eagle after the ski day. The property has a variety of room types from standard, no frills smaller rooms, with two double beds to larger apartment style suites with full kitchen and living room - so there are a lot of options depending on the experience you are looking for. From what I can tell many rooms have wood burning fireplaces – split wood is plentifully supplied by the hotel. One of my friends had an apartment style room with a wood burning fireplace and a large living room, which was awesome for all of us hanging out as a large group and the full size fridge was clutch after our trip Alchemist (again, only 5 minutes away!) One of best features of the property is that you can jump on the Cady Hill Forest hiking/biking trails right from the property. When doing a little exploring the first day I came across one of the trail heads and it was like a magic path into the snowy woods. Some friends went for a longer snowshoe hike back there, that they loved, and I was able to take a quick hike with just my sturdy snow boots. Crossed lots of trails that were clearly designed for and being used by folks on fat bikes. The property was pretty in fresh snow (a little less so as the snow aged - but were isn't that true?); I bet it is even prettier in the summer. One last thing, ate at The Nest, the resort's breakfast restaurant, all three morning we were there. The first day we went because it was easy, but we went back the next two days because we had enjoyed it so much. The place doesn't look like much from outside, but inside, it is airy and cozy at the same time, overall just pleasant. The staff was really friendly and the food was tasty, not fancy, but solidly good. It is only open until 10:00 am most days and until 11:00 on Sunday. One of my few gripes was that the beds had bedspreads rather than comforters– fine for the summer, but seems like a miss in a cold weather hotel. It was COLD the first night/day we were there and I would have really liked a heftier bed covering. Bottom line, I was really pleased with my first stay at Golden Eagle. I think it is great option for lots of different types of travelers particularly those folks who are looking for a convenient, comfortable, affordable place to stay while in Stowe. Read less

And the recreational trail is across the street near the cinema. We also had a fabulous day cross country skiing at Von traps. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, “the nest” each morning. Breakfast was super easy, great service, tasty and a great value. We stayed in room 190 which was very comfortable and large. Had everything we needed including two comfortable beds and lots of room to spread out. We also brought our dog because the Hotel is dog friendly. Location of Golden Eagle is near lots of good restaurants and breweries. We couldn’t ask for anything more we enjoyed our stay very much. Read less

I was looking forward to coming back to this resort having stayed here before, 10 yrs ago. Since then, it was sold to Choice hotels. My last visit I stayed in the front main building and the rooms as I recall were pretty nice and comfortable. This time we were given rooms in another building in the back of the property. Having reserved 2 rooms more than a month before, we found our friends on a different level. Given this is motel style and it was 10 degrees, it was not so easy to pop over to visit. Anyway, the rooms here are dated and the mattress and pillow were uncomfortable from the second I laid down. Fortunately I did not have any pain but my husband did. The pillows are the worst cheap foam. 3 nights later I am thrilled to be sleeping in my own bed again. The room was clean. Tv fine. No microwave. My friend's room had an outdated stovetop area. Her bathroom was much bigger than ours as well. We had the toilet and shower style in one room and sink outside. Bathroom was clean but tight. Breakfast is good but overpriced ($16 for lox platter with bagel, very tiny portion of lox). Last visit, breakfast was included which is great since its a real restaurant serving real food. My kids liked their breakfasts. I wasn't too impressed with my eggs Benedict done with a crab cake, very salty. Coffee is good and the dining room is attractive. Wait staff were excellent and friendly. Kids enjoyed the pool. Small game room had a ping pong table with no balls. Foosball, pool table and one arcade game finish it out. There's an outdoor pool as well that is likely gorgeous in season. I would probably try another option next visit as I didn't love this place. But it's got lots of potential if upgrades to rooms and bedding are made. It's also a decent place for people with families. Read less
