Dream Downtown

Chelsea, New York

The hotel

The designers at Dream Downtown had fun when they transformed this 1960s’ National Maritime Union building, opposite Chelsea Market and near the Meatpacking District. In a nod to its past, the gritty steel shell features super-sized portholes, while inside it takes you around the globe. You visit Mexico in the tequila barrel wall and upscale menu of Bodega Negra. You visit ‘Cool Britannia’ in the underground Electric Room, with its Banksy-inspired graffiti. And you return to NYC with the penthouse parties at PHD Rooftop Lounge and the lobby’s huge Stars and Stripes flag made from beer cans, which sits below the glass-bottomed pool.

I would not recommend this hotel. The first night I experienced a drunk person somehow getting onto my floor and banging on the door to let him in. I was so startled and when the front desk finally answered my frantic calls after 10 mins, they were so rude about it. I was so startled and when the front desk finally answered my frantic calls after 10 mins, they were so rude about it. Every night you can hear the music from the club from 10pm- 2/3 am- the rooms are not sound proof at all. My showers and mini bar was not being restocked and when I called to request this, they were so rude and said I had to request it. I was very disappointed about my experience and the service I experienced. The rooms are cute, nice decor and the location is great but unfortunately, based on my stay, wouldn't recommend. Read less

Great service. Came here for business but I think this hotel is also good for pleasure. The swimming pool is a plus even when it is cold as its heated! This place is also clean and the location is great. Will come back to this hotel.

It was the best kind of Dream staying at this hotel. The group was my girlfriend and another couple, and we stayed for a weekend. The first kudos goes to the hotel itself. The lobby is very chic with beautiful decor. Check in was nice and easy. Then we went up to our rooms. We booked the Silver King for both couples. The room was beautiful! High ceilings with a comfy bed. Big room as well. Bathroom was really nice. The location was awesome too. Close to everyting the west side has to offer. Stones throw away from Chelsea Market. Next Kudos goes to the staff. Specifically, Felipe. Our trip to the city was amazing, and many of the best moments can be attributed to Felipe's hospitality. Can't say enough great things about him and his staff. They really brought the whole experience together. Big thanks! I'd highly recommend staying at Dream Downtown on your next visit to the city! Great hotel - not my first trip and always my favourite place to stay in NY. Great service, really friendly staff, cool hotel and decent clientele. The location is perfect with loads to do and some great bars and restaurants close by... already looking forward to my next visit!

Wow--again, another overhyped New York location. We were here for business. The lobby is a dungeon. Everything looks poorly maintained. The beds are on the floor and are uncomfortable. Very flat pillows. Lots of noise unless you're in the middle of the hotel (floor 7 was good, but other people had to move rooms from higher up). No place to… Read more

Very flat pillows. Lots of noise unless you're in the middle of the hotel (floor 7 was good, but other people had to move rooms from higher up). No place to sit. Terrible table. Bad tvs. Small rooms. Elevators don't work well. Key cards don't work well. They were painting without any warnings of wet paint--nothing like paint on your coat. This is a hook-up party joint, not a place to stay for business. Rooms were stinky (mine smelled like weed). Oh, and this was at the "discount" price of only 350 a night. Terrible. Oh--and the attached hotel (bodega negra) has a pornographic website. Avoid, unless you like to party. Read less
