It’s hard to find a good hotel in Hell’s Kitchen, and sometimes I have to work late in the neighborhood and spend the night in the city. The lobby is unglamorous, but the rooms are nice and clean, if a little small. As others have already said, ask ahead and avoid the C-floor rooms in the basement.

Upon arrival to this hotel (very early in the morning) I was informed that they had my confirmed reservation in the system but the university card that was used for payment had been declined. For this reason, I was then asked to make the $1,000 plus payment. I was participating in a conference representing my university and the payment had been made by my university. I asked why the hotel had sent a confirmation of the reservation when the card had been declined and the clerk did not know. I did not have the $1,000 plus amount, so I was forced to pay for one day in order to try and fix things with my university. While waiting for the general manager, I was informed I could not lay down in the lobby despite the fact that I had just arrived from an overnight flight. Once I spoke to the general manager, I paid for one night. During the day my university called the general manager to make the payment, yet the general manager refused to give the university the price from the original reservation, because he had "cancelled" that reservation due to no payment. The new price was much higher, so my university decided to book another hotel. When I arrived back from taking a lunch, I found my luggage and personal items had been taken out of the room and put in the main breakfast area! These items included my passport and cash! This, despite the assurances that I had the room until the next day and making the payment of one day! Needless to say, I left for my other hotel immediately. This was a very unpleasant experience! Instead of the hotel accepting that they made a mistake in confirming the hotel reservation and not informing my university that the card had been declined, they put the blame all on my university. Later, I found out that the card that I tried to use for the one day payment had been declined because of an inputting error by the staff and this leads me to believe that the same thing could have happened with my university. To make things worse, the staff do not have the language skills necessary to effectively communication with the public. It was very difficult to get answers to even simply questions! I would never ever book with this hotel again! Read less

We arrived late in the evening from the UK and checked in for our 4 night stay. As we entered the lift I noticed the carpet was very dirty and worn. The king size room was very small, you can barely walk around the bed without knocking into things. There were a handful of clothes hangers on the wooden unit surrounding the Tv but nowhere else to put clothes. The shelving wasn’t wide enough and the one bedside unit drawer was too small, so our clothes stayed in our suitcases which was very inconvenient. The bathroom was clean and had sufficient towels. The bed was comfortable enough . There was a heating/cooling unit under the window but when it dropped cold during the night it was too noisy to run. The next morning we were due to meet a friend but I had an issue with my phone. Unbeknown to me she had been calling the hotel trying to get in touch, the receptionist was unprofessional and unhelpful refusing to make any attempt to contact me because my friend did not know our room number. I was furious that no one could be bothered to knock my door ( there are no phones in the room ) and pass a message. When I spoke to the receptionist they were rude and unapologetic and kept quoting “they did not have your room number”. Inexcusable behaviour. After staying two nights we went out expecting the room to be cleaned - it was not. My husband complained and fresh towels we brought up. The next morning when we went down to breakfast I spoke to the manager who was quite rightly horrified and promised to raise the issues with staff. Breakfast was ok but as others have said only small amounts are put out and staff are slow to refill which is frustrating as the hotel has tour groups so large numbers want breakfast at the same time. The Tv has very limited channels and is not smart one so no Netflix, the wifi struggles at times. There is a small fridge under the desk so there is nowhere for the chair to go and I banged my legs on it many times whilst getting into bed. The hotel should invest in vacuum cleaners that work. The carpet was always grubby, quite disgustingly so really. Or maybe just new carpet ? As I said the manager did seem genuinely concerned and spoke to me as we left saying they’d only taken over in March. Read less

On the plus side the location is pretty good and walkable to Times Sq, Rockefeller, Grand Central Station etc and some good places to eat (if you're nearby, Capizzi is a fabulous family-run Italian and a delicious mexican El Centro). Sadly that's about it, our visit started with the receptionist shouting on the phone at a colleague to 'get down here now' to check that our room had been cleaned. We were given a room right next to reception, really small, with a view of the dustbins and the noise from the reception area was awful. I went back out and politely said we were not staying in that room for 4 nights and needed another one; eventually they agreed we could have another room but the plumber was in there so it would be ready later. Thankfully the new room was better, bit bigger and on the 9th floor so had a good view of the city skyline. So be mindful if you choose to stay at this hotel that there are 4 bedrooms right by reception and you really don't want to stay in one of those. Breakfast was strange, its a very small area to get your food and a very limited number of tables so each day some people had to eat standing up or on a stool with no table. There's a pretty limited selection but something to start your day with. But each day we watched as they resisted topping up things that had run out. If you asked if there were more yogurts or bread for example you'd be told no and then a good while later a small amount would be put out. Bowls with butter, jam etc only ever topped up with a small handful at a time; it was like they were controlling how much was provided but that's not great when the selection was limited anyway. For our last day and half the lift broke, there is only 1 lift so we had to climb 9 flights of stairs each time to go in and out. There was no help offered to bring our luggage down on our last day so I had to do 2 trips up and down to bring down our suitcases, not great. Its never cheap staying in a city but I really wouldn't recommend you stay here even if its a reasonable price. Read less

The hotel elevator was out for 24hrs. Other than that, it was no frills but safe and clean. Staff helpful. Arrive at breakfast before 7am. Waffle, eggs, sausage, yogurt, muffins, fruit. We were 2-3 mins from the bus stop but it worked for us..
