DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan - New York City

New York, USA

The hotel

In the on-trend East Side, this is a Midtown must for those wanting to see the sights and shop the shops of NYC without having to wander far. In fact, it’s just blocks from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue and treats of Bloomingdale’s, and a stroll from guidebook favourites like Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. It may be surrounded by iconic architecture, but Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan holds its own in the style stakes. Originally the brainchild of Art Deco architect Morris Lapidus, it’s been brought back to its former glory while being bolstered by modern traveller musts, like its Met Grill, where you can tuck into full stateside or Continental breakfasts, and its Met Bar, a trendy lounge with cocktails, oversized sports screens, and an evening menu of ‘Met Bar Bites’.

This hotel needs some work, although the bed was great and the housekeeping was great. The bathroom had paint pealing from the ceiling and the bottom of the bathroom door was rotted and flaking. The air-conditioner did not work. The fan worked but the unit would not cool. I complained but nothing was done. Even though temperatures were in the 50s… Read more

The air-conditioner did not work. The fan worked but the unit would not cool. I complained but nothing was done. Even though temperatures were in the 50s outside, the room was stuffy. I could open a window but the sound of sirens was worse than the stuffy room. I can live with the pealing paint and rotted door but the lack of AC will keep me from coming back. Read less

She is kind as well as professional. Jessica did a fabulous job of checking us in on a late Sunday night. All the front desk girls as well as the doormen, greeted us every morning. Very friendly. The breakfast hostess was very nice and always tried to get us a booth. Bolivar, our waiter, was simply amazing. By the end of our 8 days, we greeted him with hugs. He felt like a family friend. He always smiles and is GREAT at his job. Full breakfast is delicious. We left notes daily with our housekeeper. I believe her name was Hilda. We were room 1641. She kept our room spotless and got me a blanket when I was cold. The mojitos at The Met Bar are awesome. Lots of mint. Right next to hotel is the 6 train and a block from the E and other trains. Great location. Lots of food options nearby, especially Urban Space across the street. Honestly. This is more of a 4 star business property. A lot of Airline personnel stay here. If I could change anything., I would wish the bathrooms were bigger. Opening the bathroom door is very tight if you are on the toilet. However, the staff made this a 5 star 8 day 27th Anniversary trip. Thank you for the cheese platter and all the personal attention. Thank you Kayla and the entire Doubletree Metropolitan team! We loved our stay, we were right next to the lift shaft, we had read reviews about how loud it was but we honestly didn't think it was that bad (room 1423). The bathroom is small but unless you are planning on sleeping in there I don't see what all the complaints are about. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, what more do you… Read more

You are in New York to see the sights the room is just somewhere to sleep and shower.I would definitely stay here again. Also the hotel is right next to a subway which was perfect for travelling to Times Square. Would also recommend the restaurant across the road Urban Space. Read less

Stayed for 6 nights, 14-19 April. Main problem was the noise. Very heavy room doors, so lots of loud slamming, even during the night. We reported this to the front desk after 3 nights and suggested perhaps a notice could be placed next to the lifts, politely asking guests to be mindful of the noise the doors made when allowed to slam shut. We reported this to the front desk after 3 nights and suggested perhaps a notice could be placed next to the lifts, politely asking guests to be mindful of the noise the doors made when allowed to slam shut. The front desk response was this that this would be raised with housekeeping - we then heard no more about it and the slamming continued. This is not the sort of customer service I would expect from a Hilton hotel. Also had to call front desk a couple of times to get the room safe opened after the previous guest locked it. Air con is very noisy too. Perhaps our stay can be summed up by the fact that, when we checked out, the lady at the front desk (Janice) did not ask us how our stay had been. Have stayed in numerous Hilton hotels and this one is a bad apple. Read less

We’ve had a wonderful experience at doubletree and the staff couldn’t do enough to welcome us when having a family stay over the Easter period. Would especially recommend John Johnson who was extremely welcoming at the hotel desk.
