Dream Downtown

New York, USA

The hotel

The designers at Dream Downtown had fun when they transformed this 1960s’ National Maritime Union building, opposite Chelsea Market and near the Meatpacking District. In a nod to its past, the gritty steel shell features super-sized portholes, while inside it takes you around the globe. You visit Mexico in the tequila barrel wall and upscale menu of Bodega Negra. You visit ‘Cool Britannia’ in the underground Electric Room, with its Banksy-inspired graffiti. And you return to NYC with the penthouse parties at PHD Rooftop Lounge and the lobby’s huge Stars and Stripes flag made from beer cans, which sits below the glass-bottomed pool.

As New Yorkers, we always stay here when we want to have a weekend staycation. JANE SRIPRAYUL is the best and always super responsive with all our questions and requests. She’s a pleasure to work with and one of the reasons we choose to book here. Super professional and sincere. Chris at checkin was so wonderful and helped us with our room request. Jesus took care of all our bags and ensured our belongings were handled with care. The hotel itself is super trendy and great dining options! With so many options to choose from, we have never been disappointed with our choice of staying here. We love the dream downtown and Jane and team! Thanks again for a wonderful stay! Be back very soon. Read less

Fun and boutique hotel in great neighborhood. Lots to do in hotel and near by. The pool and lobby bar are highlights. Beware as you look 👀 up. Conference set up was nice and food was good. No coffee in room, hence the 4 stars! Not ideal for children.

The service was very average and impersonal. The rooms are ok,although they are starting to look a little shabby and dirty. The drawers in the wardrobe are broken and the carpet was filthy. Several of the amenities were missing in spite of being listed on their website (hairdryer, glasses for mini bar, slippers, etc.) The mini bar was also never restocked. Read less

I really wanted to love this hotel, but there were so many things wrong with it. Inconsistencies, from the bathroom products to the furniture in the room, are many. I was there for five nights. On the plus side, the front desk is good, and the towels were soft, however the first day we had bath sheets but just bath towels after that. On the flip side, the entire hotel smelled of pot, which was what it was except one night a security guard knocked on our door asking if it was in our room (not!). The platform beds are dangerous, and many bruises were acquired due to the fact the platform sticks out AND there is ZERO room to walk around the bed. You need to see it to believe it. More than once, cold water came on during my shower and I needed to wait a long time for the hot water to get hot. Oh yeah...no ice machine on the floor! Finally, for being across the street from Google, this place could use more outlets for charging electronics and using a blow dryer and styler in the bathroom. The hotel is edgy, and there's a fun club on the top, but not worth the discomfort IMO. If you stay here, one person/room max is recommended. Read less
