The Standard Highline

Greenwich Village, New York

The hotel

There’s nothing standard about The Standard, High Line. Located on the High Line (a disused rail track that’s become a ‘go to’ sight for travellers and a ‘go to’ park for New Yorkers), The Standard has a cool Meatpacking District address. Its sepia and white rooms have a slight 70s vibe with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views over Manhattan or the Hudson River (or both). Sociable from top to toe, the penthouse floor belongs to Le Bain, a rooftop club that stays open until 4am most nights, while the street level brings you the pretzels, sausages, and beers of The Standard Biergarten, and the seaside-inspired menu of The Standard SeaShack.

Off to the side was a forest of heaters and deck chairs where people snuggled up with blankets and drank hot cocoa. Inside was a small, stylish reception area with couches and a few concierge stands at the rear. Nobody was there. But by the time I got there, out from behind the curtain emerged the front desk agent - "The Man" - Gianni. He kindly took my information, then when I mentioned to Gianni that my wife and I were celebrating our one-year anniversary, he was genuinely congratulatory and wasted no time making our experience as special as possible. VERY special. I didn't expect such generous accommodations, but he managed to facilitate one of the nicer rooms in the hotel for us. Thanks Gianni! Otherwise, we had technical difficulties in our room and they immediately sent an engineer who very quickly and discretely fixed the problem. The views from our room were incredible! Definitely check out the bar on the top floor too, but be sure to make a reservation (we went up to see the sunset but couldn't sit at any of the stadium seating booths because we didn't have one). All in all a fantastic stay! Even the bluetooth speaker was a nice touch, and the sound separation between rooms was good. So, I'll say it again, thanks to Gianni and all the staff at The Standard High Line! They definitely lived up to their reputation and I look forward to staying there again soon! Read less

Coolest neighborhood. Poppin almost every night. And the best views. Haven’t gotten to the roof clubs yet, but next time. The front desk staff are stellar. I am so thankful the were able to check me in early after a brutal red eye flight. I didn’t even expect it. I was just dropping my luggage. So for this I am thankful. I

I have been involved with the High Line since before it existed and was therefore especially excited to stay at The Standard. Unfortunately, it was quite the disappointment overall. The two things I would cite are: The room seemed a bit ‘tired,’ things seem a little old and outdated, which is quite the contrast with all the color-coded PR materials. Second, the noise from the nightclub was unbearable and I had to switch rooms in the middle of the night. I was ‘upgraded’ to this room with the understanding that the club was closed, but it was clearly not. I give credit to the gentleman on the phone who arranged the move, however, who was unfailingly polite and understanding. On the other hand, I was not originally offered anything for this huge inconvenience but after I mentioned it, I was given a breakfast credit, which was better than nothing, though I think I should have been offered something more (discount on my room? A future stay?). One more thing: The view (thanks to the ‘upgrade’) was beautiful but the windows were so dirty that everyone I sent pictures to commented on that! Read less
