Hudson

New York, USA

The hotel

The two words ‘Philippe’ and ‘Starck’ always spark a scene. Design genius Starck is renowned for his sleek and slick modernist hotels that draw chic, in-the-know crowds, and his latest NYC creation – the boutique Hudson, a short catwalk strut from Central Park – is no different. A lively swarm of stylish, creative young things congregates nightly in its ornate red-brick beer hall and burger joint Hudson Common. There’s also a Library Bar decked out like a classic English gentlemen’s club for those wishing to get their Brideshead on over a game of billiards, and wood panelled rooms and suites fit for a Cumberbatch. Another 21st Century classic.

There’s no space at all and the communal areas are dark - I had to go to another hotel nearby to read and get coffee in their lounge. The doorman spent his time on his phone leaving a queue of people wanting cabs. There are not enough staff, you had to queue for check in, concierge, everything. I can’t think of any reason you would choose this hotel, there are much better hotels nearby in this price range. Read less

The location is great, the rooms small and not very clean. Noisy airconditioning. For the second time in 2 years the roof terrace was closed. But the worse: they've taken an unjustifiable and unexplained amount of money from my credit card. After we had left. And they haven't responded AT ALL to the three e-mails I've sent about it. But the worse: they've taken an unjustifiable and unexplained amount of money from my credit card. After we had left. And they haven't responded AT ALL to the three e-mails I've sent about it. I've filed a complaint at my credit card company and Booking.com. I'll get the money back, but it's a hassle. Now let's wait for manager Alfredo I to come with his standard b.s. reply. I'll never return there. Read less

It’s an awful hotel. The phone number to contact them doesn’t work and they don’t reply to emails. The deposit and service charges are ridiculous as you don’t get a refund on your deposit and and have to pay the service charges even if you don’t use the facilities. I will NEVER be stopping here again as they rip you off and have AWFUL customer… Read more

This trip from Scotland to New York City was meant to be an amazing, stress free holiday but this holiday made it far from easy. After not replying to multiple emails that I sent to multiple people and messages on social media accounts, I was left at the mercy of this hotel. First, my debit card I was paying with was out of date and I wanted to update this prior to my visit to ensure a smooth arrival. However, due to the rubbish website, I was unable to even log in or change my password. I was worried about this during the hour flight. Once arriving at the hotel, all excited after flight delays and hitting rush hour traffic, we were confronted with unexpected rates. The rate which I was told $1153 (excluding tax) was not what confronted me at the reception desk. Once my debit card and credit card had been declined, I was told how muxch i was paying. Instead, a $1800 bill that included a $300 deposit and excess facility fees that were not shown or provided on the website. The receptionist henceforth treated myself and my partner as if we were incompetent. She was extremely rude. I am a student and cannot afford such rates, leaving myself and my partner stranded at this hotel, unable to pay, facing a cancellation fee and nowhere to stay. At this point, the lobby was very busy and my partner spoke to another member of staff about cancelling the room. This happened without a fee. By this point, I was in tears and extremely distressed. First trip outside the EU and my 21st birthday almost ruined by the hotel. I felt like I was looked down at by the first staff member. Luckily, my boyfriend was able to book another hotel close by. Would not reccomend. Read less

I've been staying at the Hudson since it opened. Sadly, the hotel has never been renovated and therefore at this time is looking dinged up and old. Rooms are small, tiny really, but if you get a studio room they are fine. Staff was very pleasant and the location can not be beat (close to subway and many midtown locations). My expectations are private bath, relatively clean, working AC and TV, which were all met. I try to never pay more than $300/night where surrounding hotels can be over $500/night. Overall its fine, but really set your expectations for arrival. Read less
