Hudson

New York, USA

The hotel

The two words ‘Philippe’ and ‘Starck’ always spark a scene. Design genius Starck is renowned for his sleek and slick modernist hotels that draw chic, in-the-know crowds, and his latest NYC creation – the boutique Hudson, a short catwalk strut from Central Park – is no different. A lively swarm of stylish, creative young things congregates nightly in its ornate red-brick beer hall and burger joint Hudson Common. There’s also a Library Bar decked out like a classic English gentlemen’s club for those wishing to get their Brideshead on over a game of billiards, and wood panelled rooms and suites fit for a Cumberbatch. Another 21st Century classic.

Was well worried when we booked this hotel as seen the reviews. We were recommended by a friend who said tip is to upgrade and not take a standard room. We checked into a Studio Deluxe which size wise was perfect. Separate bathroom very spacious. Downside is the hotel needs a lick of paint. We had a fault with our door, the AC was noisy and hardly worked and the tele that was mounted on the wall kept moving on its own. General level of cleanliness by the cleaners also was not up to acceptable standard. But not all bad, the location is spot on. Metro across the road takes you everywhere and Times Sq is 10 min walk. We also came across two of the most annoying rudest staff known to man but to be honest never let rude people upset my trips. Would I stay again, no. Read less

Not a bad property. Rooms were a good size and had a nice feel to them. The halls feel like you are in a episode of the walking dead or some alien movie... Green walls with weird lighting... Hotel is is in a good location. The disappointing aspect of this hotel is the service we received. The boiler in our room blew up making the room 40+ degrees celsius. As a result we has no heating or air conditioning. We couldn't move rooms as the hotel was full. I spoke to front desk daily re:the issue and had to explain the issue to anyone I spoke to... no notes were recorded. I was eventually told that the hotel would comp one night. Upon checkout, I reconfirmed this and was told the refund would go back to the booking agent. Upon returning to Australia I engaged with the wholesaler to which I was told no refund was due as the hotel had no idea what they were talking about... Disappointing, as our 5 nights were not the most comfortable of stays. Read less

Stayed at the Hudson for 4 nights last week, entered then headed up the escalator to reception.. welcomed with a very classy low lit foyer, reception and general waiting area.. was excited to see what the rooms looked like.. checked in, where we told they needed to take a holding fee of $300 for accidentals, unfortunately our travel agent had not advised us of this, so was a dint in our spending money, we were advised this wouldn’t be released up to 48hrs once we checked out Got to our room and opened the door.. greeted by a floor to ceiling dark wooded room, it was small, had a separate bathroom, toilet, basin and shower, then a huge glass window letting you basically have a number 2 while being watched by whoever was in the bedroom😂😂 wasn’t an issue for me and hubby, but did think it really bizarre and didn’t see the point of this?! Unless they thought it was a way to make the rooms appear bigger?! I don’t know.. however for the modest people there was a net curtain which was over this window.. other than that it was clean, had a tv and fridge, no coffee making facilities but they did have an iron/board and hairdryer Didn’t use any of the facilities in the hotel as it was only somewhere to sleep... that said it was a great location, very close to Columbus subway station which is great if you want to save your legs, there is also a great cafe on the corner called fluffys.. we got our breakfast and coffee fix from there Read less

I tried to make a reservation- the hotel reserved the incorrect date and when I tried to make a inquire and cancel reservation my call would be transferred and never answered. I tried to call 4 days in a row and could not speak with anyone in reservations. This hotel will rip you off.
