Le Meridien New York Central Park

New York, USA

The hotel

Both a modern masterpiece and a work of art, the Viceroy Central New York has been styled to capture the glamorous era of 1920s New York. Expect leather Chesterfield sofas to lounge on and gorgeous lucky vintage shop finds, all of which lend character and atmosphere to this already iconic residence. From the luxury of your room – reminiscent of a cabin room on a seafaring liner – you’ll enjoy bird’s-eye views of Central Park as well as the surrounding city. In fact, you’re well placed to explore all the sights, including the world-famous Tiffany & Co, just a stone’s throw away. There are shops, bars and restaurants galore on your doorstep but the hotel’s The Roof is most definitely a place to see and be seen in. As well as boasting more of those gorgeous views we’ve been raving about, it has a very happening vibe plus the most exciting cocktails on the block. On the street level is Kingside Restaurant, another great place to relax, this time over the finest New American cuisine.

After reading the previous reviews we were a little worried about staying at the Le Meridien but we needn’t have been! They seemed to have finished their renovations since changing from Viceroy, so the hotel hobby was very impressive and the room was very comfortable. The bed, pillows and thick curtains meant we both slept very soundly during our three night stay. The staff were all friendly and helpful, with the only gripe being that check-in was resolutely 3pm and they couldn’t accommodate us sooner. Although we were able to leave our suitcases, this still meant walking around Central Park in a post-night-flight daze with some heavy bags! If wanting to stay in this area of New York, Le Meridien would be a good choice. Read less

I booked this hotel when it was still a Viceroy property and by the time my stay came around, it was a Marriott. I wanted to cancel my reservation as I was trying to stay at a Viceroy property and not a Marriott. After calling Marriott reservations, they told me I had to call the hotel. Eight calls to the hotel later (not exaggerating) and I could finally talk to someone. They had to have me email a manager since they were experiencing a blackout. Initially the manager (Vincent) was responsive but he also said he now couldn't locate my reservation at all, even though I prepaid. No record of me whatsoever. Promised he would follow up after sending him my Viceroy confirmation and no word for days. I try with another manager (Katie) who seemed helpful, asked me to text her my confirmation and she would resolve by the end of the day- no word from her ever again. I didn't stay there and now will be calling Marriott corporate and disputing the charge with my credit card. Absolutely the worst customer service ever. Would never stay here. Read less

I was actually excited to stay here but I guess it's too early since Marriott group just took over this hotel. Le Meridien actually offers Central Park views on higher floors (somewhat restricted) but better than the Park Hyatt across the street which of course provides different level of service for a higher price. The rooms are small but actually nicely designed (still not serviced well). The service is the main issue with this hotel. In my opinion the entire staff needs to be re-trained and/or switched. Very frustrating experience throughout the stay and with every single person I interacted with. Even a snotty front desk manager after three front desk employees couldn't understand for my second night I had a Central Park view room booked and went on to discuss it unit the next day. Also if you have status with Marriott do not expect much here whatsoever. Looking at some of the other reviews customer service seems to be really an issue to the point where you feel the customer is not welcome here. Read less

Very poor experience in relation to the price paid. No updates or improvements from the previous ownership (Viceroy Hotel). Rooms are seriously outdated (closet too short, hanging pants is not an option 😳) and noisy (between bathroom fan running 24/7 and noisy air conditioning unit). Lastly, aside from the expected street noise (poor window… Read more

Rooms are seriously outdated (closet too short, hanging pants is not an option 😳) and noisy (between bathroom fan running 24/7 and noisy air conditioning unit). Lastly, aside from the expected street noise (poor window insulation on the 57th st side), I experienced construction activity and loud noises till 3:00 am (drilling and hammering...) on a work weekday. Staff pretend to be courteous but they don’t deliver what they promise. Last time in this Hotel. Read less

I have been an SPG Platinum member for many years and currently at Gold Status. This is the first time I felt disturbed enough to write a negative review. I had paid a deposit for the room and taxes. Yet upon checkout, they charged my credit card again. They also charged me for the internet which was supposed to be free. The front desk staff were not trained to reverse the charge and it took a while until the lobby manager came in to intervene and help. Then later that day I got a revised bill with a charge for the mini bar which I had not used. I called the front desk and they took a while to retrieve my account and then finally told me that they cannot help and that I needed to contact accounting. I told them that I was disappointed with the multiple mistakes in billing and inability of the staff to help and that I wanted to know his name as I would like to write a review on TripAdvisor. At that point, he lost his temper and told me in a loud and derogatory tone that he didn't like that I was threatening him and that he didn't want to talk to me any further and then he hung up!!!! I am amazed that that the customer who was wronged didn't get a chance to raise his voice but the front desk staff of a newly opened hotel so easily screamed at the customer and had the audacity to hang up.
