Baccarat Hotel and Residences New York

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A little piece of Paris in the middle of Manhattan, Baccarat Hotel is all crystal-coated opulence, with silk-covered walls, chandelier-studded ceilings, and hints of platinum and champagne. Your guestroom pairs crisp white linen with glittering mirrors concealing your TV and a red enamel minibar, while a ‘one touch device’ covers your lighting, climate and entertainment, and connects you to your 24 hour Concierge – it even has a button simply labelled ‘champagne’. More than a pied-à-terre, no luxury’s been omitted: a vintage cherry red Citroën acts as your house car, the 60 foot bar’s terrace overlooks the MoMa, the Riviera-inspired indoor pool features cabanas with over-stuffed daybeds, and the Grand Salon’s central table is dressed with French pastries for breakfast, before the space is transformed for indulgent High Teas, nightly champagne soirees, and fine French dining.

We had such a wonderful birthday celebration staying at the Baccarat Hotel in NYC. Preferring smaller hotels , we selected the Baccarat because of its superb location and the more intimate feeling of the hotel. Though the room is truly lovely , what we enjoyed most was the staff from the doormen to the people who take your breakfast orders. The food happened to be excellent, but the creative seating and the enjoyment of our dining there added. There was a small European feel to the hotel. We enjoyed the theme of the Baccarat crystal in decor though we might not have gone as far as the designer did with the first floor standing chandelier in the entrance lobby. Enjoyed very much the drama and creativity in other decorative touches in the dining areas. This is not a bustling hotel, but rather a discreet and elegant environment. We brought friends to enjoy breakfast with us and it was extremely pleasant and leisurely. The bedding and finishing touches in the room were of the highest quality. Lots of fun even though a pleasantly genteel feeling throughout the hotel. Read less

We stayed here this past weekend. I wasn’t blown away. It’s a nice hotel with opulent furnishings and lighting other than that, it doesn’t have much to offer. I felt like I was staying in a fancy apartment building. My experience with 5 star hotels is that you are almost always bombarded with superior service/attention from the staff. And although the staff were nice, unless we went to the bar, there were no staff to be seen. It was just like staying in an apartment building. The doormen were the best part - helpful, friendly, and caring enough to make sure we were getting in the right Uber etc. but other than that there is almost no interaction from any other staff. The first floor of the hotel is a lobby. Just a lobby. No check in, no front desk. Just a dimly lit room leading to elevators. Then down a dark hallway is the check-in. Once you’re checked in, you never bybass this hallway again until checking out so there’s only two chances for interaction with staff. I prefer more interaction and attention from staff even if it’s basic “Good morning, hello, how is your stay?” You won’t find that here. Another issue I had was the lousy quality of the beds and pillows. The beds are about 2 feet off the ground and the pillows are the standard flimsy, feather filled pillows. The kind you need 6 under your head just to have support. Read less

Location perfect, room wonderful, service excellent, food delicious, amenities exactly right. I highly recommend a stay. Trip advisor wants minimum 200 words not allowing for succinct erudite reviews.
