DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan - New York City

Midtown, New York

The hotel

In the on-trend East Side, this is a Midtown must for those wanting to see the sights and shop the shops of NYC without having to wander far. In fact, it’s just blocks from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue and treats of Bloomingdale’s, and a stroll from guidebook favourites like Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. It may be surrounded by iconic architecture, but Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan holds its own in the style stakes. Originally the brainchild of Art Deco architect Morris Lapidus, it’s been brought back to its former glory while being bolstered by modern traveller musts, like its Met Grill, where you can tuck into full stateside or Continental breakfasts, and its Met Bar, a trendy lounge with cocktails, oversized sports screens, and an evening menu of ‘Met Bar Bites’.

The rooms are outdated: e.g. paint coming from the ceiling (see pictures), visible rust door handles in the bathroom, etc. The room door has some mechanism which smashes it into the lock. This makes everything in the nearby rooms shake, and in the morning/evening you are continiously disturbed by other rooms in the hall because of this. The rooms… Read more

The rooms are cleaned well which is a plus point. The location is also great, there even is a subway entrance right next to the door. The urban food space across the street is also nice. Reception is understaffed and not always friendly, depending on who is there to help. Read less

Hopefully someone from corporate will read this and help me with this situation. I stayed with my boyfriend at the doubletree metropolitan by Hilton in New York from Oct 9 to Oct 13 however the hotel is charging me for room service and stay on the nights of Oct 13 and Oct 14 which are obviously erroneous . I contacted the hotel and emailed them pictures of me traveling back to Miami on Oct 13 but they keep saying that I extended my reservation and occupied the room which is totally false . The hotel answered saying that " I called directly to the manager on 10/13 requesting to extend the reservation" and that "I called the manager directly on 10/14 requesting to extend until the 15". Those statements are completely false I never spoke to a manager neither did I extend the reservation since I traveled back to Miami on Oct 13 and we never received a noticed that any changes were made to our reservation until Oct 15 when they emailed the hotel folio which by then included two additional night stays, room service charges and even a phone charge. I have provided my travel documents and personal pictures departing New York and arriving in Miami on Oct 13 but they didn't pay any attention to it. I don’t know what else to do, the extra charge is $1124.77 which is completely erroneous because how can I be staying at a hotel in New York and ordering room service if I was already back home. I think for the reputation, prestige and protection of future guess with a chain that has more than 530 hotels is very important that someone from corporate investigates deeply into this situation and especially since someone else it’s responsible for those charges and it might be some type of internal scam since someone is hijacking and it could affect other reservations and more people. Please be careful this was the third time I stayed at this hotel and never encountered a situation like this. I always see a lot of flights attendants and pilots from different airlines staying at the hotel so hopefully this review will bring awareness to everyone do not trust the drop box for the keys when checking out or leave before getting a copy of your hotel folio from the front desk to avoid fraudulent charges to your reservation. We waited in line for over an hour to check-in. Once we made it to the front, George (one of the managers), took good care of us. The bellmen were excellent as well. We had breakfast at the Met Grill and very much enjoyed the food. Bolivar was, as always, professional and on top of everything! Look forward to staying again soon. Read less
