DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan - New York City

Midtown, New York

The hotel

In the on-trend East Side, this is a Midtown must for those wanting to see the sights and shop the shops of NYC without having to wander far. In fact, it’s just blocks from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue and treats of Bloomingdale’s, and a stroll from guidebook favourites like Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. It may be surrounded by iconic architecture, but Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan holds its own in the style stakes. Originally the brainchild of Art Deco architect Morris Lapidus, it’s been brought back to its former glory while being bolstered by modern traveller musts, like its Met Grill, where you can tuck into full stateside or Continental breakfasts, and its Met Bar, a trendy lounge with cocktails, oversized sports screens, and an evening menu of ‘Met Bar Bites’.

Booked in 6/2021 for our 10/22-10/25 Girls Trip. We arrived to find it was closed and had been since Covid. No notice-via phone or email. Literally, we were stranded on the streets with our luggage. Contacted Hilton-first time I was hung up on after explaining the predicament. The second time I called Hilton I was told they wouldn’t/couldn’t do anything. I was appalled. We contacted several surrounding hotels and the had no availability. We ended up walking several blocks with our luggage to different hotels. Finally one was able to accommodate us. We ended up paying 3 times our originally booked price, but were just happy to have a place to stay. NEVER BOOK HERE! Read less

Received email that the hotel is closed for upcoming December 2021 trip. Wish I had known that they weren't going to be open when I booked months ago - now all the hotels are so much more expensive. I laughed at their email saying that they will cancel my reservation at no cost to me - seriously you thought about charging me for your… Read more

The hotel is "temporarily" closed (on my arrival date). It was Oct 15th but is now Nov 1st. I am due in for the NYC Marathon on Nov 4th. Oscar Vertiz with the hotel recommended to book elsewhere so I did. No expedia will not refund me because the hotel has a projected open date of November 1st. Hilton won't refund either. I booked well in advance. Today i got an e-mail from Hilton Honors telling me they will not honor my reservation which would start 10 days from now. They gave me no reason and gave me no alternatives. I had to book another more expensive property when in fact it was up to the Doubletree Metropolitan to accommodate me. Pathetic behavior. I expected more from Hilton. I expected more from HHonors. I expected more from the Doubletree Metropolitan. They left me out in the cold and threw no blankets. The correct thing to do was to arrange for a nearby comparable property at the same price. They did not do that. Very sad excuse for hospitality. COVID is no excuse anymore. Read less

I have a reservation for late October but since I've read the reviews I called the hotel and as I imagined, no answer. I called Hilton and they told me to wait one week before my trip to check if the hotel was still closed or not. whaaatttt?
