DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan - New York City

Midtown, New York

The hotel

In the on-trend East Side, this is a Midtown must for those wanting to see the sights and shop the shops of NYC without having to wander far. In fact, it’s just blocks from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue and treats of Bloomingdale’s, and a stroll from guidebook favourites like Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. It may be surrounded by iconic architecture, but Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan holds its own in the style stakes. Originally the brainchild of Art Deco architect Morris Lapidus, it’s been brought back to its former glory while being bolstered by modern traveller musts, like its Met Grill, where you can tuck into full stateside or Continental breakfasts, and its Met Bar, a trendy lounge with cocktails, oversized sports screens, and an evening menu of ‘Met Bar Bites’.

The stay at the Doubletree in Lexington Ave was wonderful! Our hostess, Swapna, got 5 Stars in my book for taking such great care for us when we checked in! She was a delight and our stay was terrific.

Staff is so nice, especially Swapna at front desk. Valet parking very convenient, and bell staff very friendly. Nice bar in lobby. Only drawback is no mini refrigerator in room. No real views but great location.

It’s location is central enough but not sure if that makes this worth it. Rooms are good size, beds are comfortable and water pressure is great. But peeling wall paper, poor circulation, tub rust I think should be addressed. Overall pretty affordable but I don’t think I’ll stay here again.

Stayed here over MLK weekend. Checked in early and thanks to Swapna for the room upgrade! This hotel is in a great location and we do usually stay in this area. We hadn’t stayed at this Hilton before but would definitely stay again. Lobby area is bustling and staff ready to help with anything. The only negatives are that rooms (even our suite)… Read more
Stayed here over MLK weekend. Checked in early and thanks to Swapna for the room upgrade! This hotel is in a great location and we do usually stay in this area. We hadn’t stayed at this Hilton before but would definitely stay again. Lobby area is bustling and staff ready to help with anything. The only negatives are that rooms (even our suite) have no small refrigerator or microwave. Bathrooms are quite small and closet doors were paint peeled and loosely hanging. None of that is tragic but if we don’t don’t have the great rate, I would not have been pleased. It was just a place to sleep so no big deal. The positives outweigh the negatives! Read less

John Johnson epitomizes the very best in great service and hospitality. He is a model for the type of people needed in the hospitality industry, always with a smile, a kind word and a helping hand. The location is one of the best in the city, on the Eastside, very comfy, an older all service hotel with great character and great staff.
