DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan - New York City

Midtown, New York

The hotel

In the on-trend East Side, this is a Midtown must for those wanting to see the sights and shop the shops of NYC without having to wander far. In fact, it’s just blocks from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue and treats of Bloomingdale’s, and a stroll from guidebook favourites like Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. It may be surrounded by iconic architecture, but Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan holds its own in the style stakes. Originally the brainchild of Art Deco architect Morris Lapidus, it’s been brought back to its former glory while being bolstered by modern traveller musts, like its Met Grill, where you can tuck into full stateside or Continental breakfasts, and its Met Bar, a trendy lounge with cocktails, oversized sports screens, and an evening menu of ‘Met Bar Bites’.

We had a fantastic experience at the Hilton Double Tree, so much so that I am now looking out for other Double Trees, and have already booked another one. We had a fantastic experience at the Hilton Double Tree, so much so that I am now looking out for other Double Trees, and have already booked another one. The rooms were extremely clean - I have anxiety around hygiene and I felt perfectly at home here. We stayed for a week and were expertly looked after by Erica and Marcello, who went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We made the mistake of booking through booking.com instead of directly through the hotel, meaning that our booking of an accessible room hadn't gone through, and the hotel staff sorted us out immediately. Literally cannot reccomend this place enough, if I am ever fortunate enough to come back to New York, I will come back to the Double Tree on Lex. (They also give you cookies!) Read less

Rooms needs to be updated or modernization, unfortunately living nearby a fire station was perhaps a bit too close to central Manhattan, however if you wish to stay in a walking distance to Central Park, MoMA and Times Square this is the location to be.

The team is pleasant and efficient. Special shout out to JC and Bolivar. They make the experience of being away from home far more pleasant. The negatives: No digital key, just a hassle waiting in line to check in so many times. If you park a car, you can't pay for the parking charge upon arrival which requires you to physically checkout, again waiting in line. But the biggest negative is the Hotel Store. You have a 66% chance of it being closed with a sign indicating when they will be back. Very frustrating when all you want to do is get some water or soda to have to keep coming down multiple times. Very inconvenient. On the neutral side, the rooms are older but clean - housekeeping does a good job. Overall - an okay place but be prepared to wait for check in/out service. Read less
