DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan - New York City

Midtown, New York

The hotel

In the on-trend East Side, this is a Midtown must for those wanting to see the sights and shop the shops of NYC without having to wander far. In fact, it’s just blocks from the boutiques of Fifth Avenue and treats of Bloomingdale’s, and a stroll from guidebook favourites like Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall. It may be surrounded by iconic architecture, but Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan holds its own in the style stakes. Originally the brainchild of Art Deco architect Morris Lapidus, it’s been brought back to its former glory while being bolstered by modern traveller musts, like its Met Grill, where you can tuck into full stateside or Continental breakfasts, and its Met Bar, a trendy lounge with cocktails, oversized sports screens, and an evening menu of ‘Met Bar Bites’.

Great location. Room was comfortable although the bathroom was dated. Very busy front desk and was very difficult to get through to them on the phone. Robert the bellman was awesome and helped me with a lot of luggage. Solid 3/5 overall.

One of our rooms looked as if it were still "under construction" as the door was busted and the insulation was hanging out. And, the worst part is that the staff didn't seem to care and acted like we were the ones with the problem. The experience was bad enough NOT TO STAY at a Hilton again. Make it Right policy? Laughable, at best!

The elevator wasn't locked during the day so anyone could walk off the street and access the hotel floors. We couldn't get the room temp any warmer than 72 degrees. The fitness room only had one treadmill working and stair masters that were uncomfortable. The only reason to say here is if you need a location on the east side. Oh, and the room was… Read more

The location of this hotel is the only reason it gets a 2. Perfect location right next to subway station. Staff didn’t seem to care how the stay was, concierge was overly pushy and annoying. The room was, quite simply, disgusting. The bathroom was the most dingy, mouldy, rusty bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel. Overloaded plug sockets. Dirty carpet. Wallpaper peeling off the walls. Thankfully though it’s New York City, spent as little time in the hotel as possible! Read less
