Hilton Garden Inn New York- Central Park South

Midtown, New York

The hotel

About as close to the Big Apple’s core as you can get, this Midtown hotel’s hugged by the theatre district, Central Park, Fifth Avenue’s shopping, and all those ‘cover story’ sights Manhattan’s famous for. It has a story of its own too – being on the hallowed turf of The Hit Factory, where stars like Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Stevie Wonder made music. At Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South, they know you’re here to experience the city, not a hotel room, but that hasn’t stopped them adding comforts like evening room service, in-room microwaves and mini-fridges (ideal for treats from their Pavilion Pantry market), and complimentary WiFi. When you’re not dining ‘in’, you can head down to the hotel’s Empire Steak House for prime beef or seafood specials, or go ‘out out’ to one of Midtown’s must-try restaurants.

I've stayed at this Hilton Garden Inn several times. It's just a few blocks south of Central Park. I've done morning walks in the park since it's so close. Clean rooms, quiet and great staff. The only negative is that at times you have to wait a while for elevators. Other than that, great place to stay.

I stayed here for the New York Marathon, and anything that could go wrong basically did. I am a Hilton Awards member, and it did not help me with this stay. I stayed here for the New York Marathon, and anything that could go wrong basically did. I am a Hilton Awards member, and it did not help me with this stay. Members of my family whom are not and booked through a travel agent were treated much better than I was. I was given an occupied room at first, and when I went to the front desk about it, I was asked about the race of the person who was in the room. I'm not sure why that mattered. When I booked the room, I asked for a room that was away from the elevator because of the noise, and instead, got a room right next to the elevator. I also booked a room with "snacks" and I often had to remind the front desk about the snacks because they didn't restock them. Additionally, in the room, there was a constant blinking of the smoke detector light; it was almost like a strobe light, but less consistent. There are plenty of hotels in New York with a similar location; I recommend you stay at one of those for a better experience for the same price. Read less

Good location. Walkable to Times Square, Central Park, great restaurants, etc. Room a little small but good for 1-2. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Friendly and accommodating staff. Had room service once and food was good. Quiet.

Although we arrived a couple hours early, the lobby of the hotel was packed and there seemed to be no attention to new arriving guests as we had to wait for a few other guests, but then just walk up to the desk. We were finally able to check in about 2:30 p.m. We really did not like the barn door set-up on the bathroom in our king room. The door provided NO privacy and it seems Hilton is moving to these in more of their properties and even sharing the room with a spouse, we still desire SOME amount of privacy in the bathroom. Our first full day, we decided not to have maid service, so in the evening my wife called down to get some additional towels and we waited an hour and still no towels, by this time, I needed to get to sleep for the marathon this next morning so she called back down to cancel and there was no apology for not getting us a few additional towels more quickly. Finally, the TV had a crack in the screen and was very dark at the top of the screen. I really felt like for the rate we paid was for the location and convenience of being close to the marathon finish, which was great. If/when we come back to NYC, we will most likely stay at a different property. Read less
