A warm welcome. Every single member of staff we encountered was informative and genuine. We were lucky enough to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms. Spacious and well done, lovely welcome note and compliment water and coke. Off that the only mirror was in the bathroom but that aside a stunning room. We were on the 3rd floor and despite the rooftop bar being loud and very busy couldn’t hear a thing. Great location for getting around all of he major NYV attractions. Will stay again Read less

This midtown hotel is not only well located with walking distance to Bryant park, Empire state building, Penn station, Times square, Macy’s, Rockefeller centre(a little longer walk to the latter, but it is the best money I’ve ever spent on a Hotel in NYC. The rooms are fresh, modern and newly renovated, with big comfy beda. You Get a mini fridge - which they don’t stock, but contained several complementary bottles of water and soda. I don’t know, though, if these gifts are standard or a consolation gift, because during my stay there were some inconveniances regarding renovating of the reception area. Furthermore, the room has a coffee brewer with tea and coffee that was refilled every day. That’s OK if you want to relax in the room without having to rush out for breakfast the minute you wake up. (Breakfast is not included in the price) There is a food cart a minute’s walk from the entrance - there they sell bagels, coffee and soft drinks. The housekeeping does a top notch job job, and all of the hotel straff is very friendly, helpful and sweet. There is also a wonderful rooftop deck, and they serve drinks from 4 pm. The hotel offers free wi-fi. Read less

This was my second time staying at Hotel Metro, and some of the previous positives still stand: its location is perfect, the decor is classic and attractive, the rooms are quiet and most of the staff are superb (especially Randy, Lisa and the whole housekeeping team). I had to be moved from my original room due to a broken safe, but staff handled this efficiently. The hotel no longer offers complimentary breakfasts, but that wasn't too much of a problem as rooms have fridges so you can organise your own; there are also good options locally (including the terrific Andrews Coffee Shop a little further down the street). They're currently renovating the ground floor, but other than a bit of noise and mess during the day this didn't really affect things. The big frustration this time was the lift problem and the redesign of the roof terrace. One of the 3 lifts was out of order for the whole stay, and the 2 remaining lifts were slow, rather creaky, and sometimes too full of guests, staff, housekeeping trolleys and equipment to get on. When I stayed here last time I was on a low floor so just used the stairs when the lifts broke, but this time there was no access due to the renovations. There's now a very energetic rooftop bar open to non-guests, which is a shame as previously this was a lovely space with plenty of seating areas where you could read, relax or actually have a conversation. It was shut for private functions a couple of times during my stay, and on the other times I went there was loud music and so many people it felt like a night-club. I spent a lot of time there last time but unfortunately had to stay away this trip. The other downside of the new bar is the number of non-hotel guests now using the 2 remaining lifts. It's a bit annoying when you can't get to your own room because you're at the back of a queue of revellers trying to get up to the Look-out. I lost count of the number of times random tipsy people asked me 'so what's the hotel like?' as they headed down from the roof. The lifts could have done without the extra traffic! I'm very fond of this hotel and its lovely staff, location and style. Unfortunately getting to and from rooms was really frustrating this time, and selling the roof as a party destination for non-guests is a bit off-putting. I'd like to think I'll stay here again, but will probably be checking out nearby hotels too. Read less

Small cozy rooms. The price is right and the location is fantastic. Super clean, and very cozy and well done. There is no reason to not stay here if you are looking for a not so fuuuwwaaancEEy place to stay that will leave your wallet fat.

This is a nice Hotel with helpful staff. It is not too far from Penn Station, Empire State Building. Though price is bit on the higher side, convenience outweighs the price. Soft drinks in the room are complementary including bottled water.
