New York Marriott East Side

Midtown, New York

The hotel

Built in 1924, this Midtown hotel is something of a gem in New York, combining classic 'old Manhattan' style with stylish contemporary décor. It's also the place where Houdini performed a daring escape from a locked box in the pool! Not that you'll want to escape, as it's supremely comfortable with a fantastic range of amenities. Then again, Fifth Avenue is just a stroll away.

I really enjoyed my stay at the East Side Marriott. It has a real historic charm to it, and the rooms have been nicely renovated. The M Club Lounge was also nicely appointed. And a very convenient location!

Four girls for memorial day week-end. The room was very small, cramped and "vintage" (lots of wear and tear), Breakfast was very ordinary (eggs too dry, fruits with no savor at all, horrible coffee) . The concierge was not very helpful. We asked how to reach The Cloister museum, and purchase our tickets. Directions were so messed up, it took us 2 hours to go there and the museum did not acknowledge our tickets at first. It took us another 30-45 minutes to finally get inside. Overall, location is good but next time, we will go elsewhere. Read less

The New York Marriott East Side is located in a convenient location with eateries all around so getting food is not a problem. The subway is nearby. It is not right in the heart of the Broadway area so it is not jam-packed with crowds the whole day. Good for those who like hotels within walking distance from popular tourist spots but which offer a little more peace and quiet at the same time. Rooms look a little dated though and one of the elevators seemed to have a mind of its own, refusing to open at the lobby level several times during my stay there. Those of us in the elevator ended up returning to the room levels and then going down again. Read less

Arrived for a business stay for a conference. They had a pipe burst and the lobby was a mess. There were high powered fans running. The front desk was unfriendly, and downright rude! There was a notice to run water for 20 minutes before showering...yuck! Went to the room and it was rundown and after thinking about it, decided to leave with other colleagues. Tried to leave and the elevator wouldn't go down, so I got out. A housekeeper was there and walked me to the service elevator saying the other elevators weren't working. Now that wasn't comforting if there was an emergency. Left and went to another hotel nearby. Read less

Check-In/Check-Out Checking in and out was slow, the staff was not so friendly. They really want you to go away as soon as they checked you in. The Room The room was small but it was fine for us. The room we stayed was close to the elevators so we could hear noises people dragging their luggage and etc (this was the downside) if you plan to have a romantic getaway let me put it this way, definitely no baby-making in this room. There are small fridge and coffee maker in the room. There is a small window, but you don't want that open coz your neighbor can see you. The good thing was the room light was bright enough. The Bathroom There is a bathtub, the water pressure could be improved. There is hairdryer provided on-site. Restaurant/Entertainment There are a restaurant and bar on site. Hotel Service/Amenities We came here with our car and we parked on the hotel loading zone, we just want to drop off our luggage to our room. There was a valet man on site and he gave us a ticket and grab our keys. Luckily, our room wasn't ready so we didn't park our car for too long. When we got our cars, the man thought we wanted a valet service but we told him we just want to check in and move our car somewhere else, hence we parked on the loading zone. He then gave us our keys but wasn't too happy and was saying some bad things probably to his other staff while we got to our cars (not professional especially a Marriot hotel). They do provide wifi, but I don't think is available in the room. They do baggage service as well. Overall Not sure if I would come back, the location is definitely a 10 but other than that it was just okay and sometimes unprofessional from their staff. I used to work in a hotel and even in my bad days I never treated any customer unprofessionally in any way. Read less
