Shelburne Hotel & Suites by Affinia

Midtown, New York

The hotel

If you crave the Manhattan nights you’ve seen in the sit-coms, Shelburne NYC’s got it covered. Just head straight upstairs to Rare View: the archetypal summertime rooftop bar, its 5,000 square feet hold a chilled cocktail party vibe, five unique ‘rooms’ including the picnic patch and champagne garden, and 360 degree views taking in sights like the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Back downstairs, Rare Bar & Grill serves up gourmet burgers with twists like tequila-soaked beef, aged whisky slaw, or lobster tail. If you can bear to leave this infinitely trendy hotel, you’ll find you’re in a similarly trendy neighbourhood. But still be sure to keep in mind the complimentary evening wine hour.

Clean and comfortable studio. Warm and competent staff. Comfortable walk to the Dysautonomia Clinic. We were disappointed to discover that the hotel restaurant was closed. However Starbucks and TraderJoe's were within walking distance.

Spacious rooms, kitchenette, location and the caring staff have never disappointed us. We love the ease of walking to and from Penn Station, Broadway, and the variety of restaurants and bars on 3rd Ave. We are happy that they have made the best effort to continue to provide excellent service in these trying times. We felt safe and felt our room was very clean. Our only disappointment was finding out that Rare had closed…we loved to come in tired and perk up at the Bar with a couple of cold ones and the the closing of the rooftop bar, another great spot for R&R Overall the very reasonable priced rooms and attentive staff make this our “home away from home” every time we visit NYC. Safe, clean, and walkable! The staff was so kind and responsive. Would stay here again! There aren’t a lot of amenities but it is NYC. Just go outside! The hotel has everything you need for your stay. And thanks to Denis and the others for looking after us.

Probably more 3 1/2 stars. Pros were the location on Lex, a few blocks from GCS and 3rd Avenue restaurants. Lobby had enough seating for your morning coffee. I also needed to attend an on-line class during the evening, and opted to plug in downstairs, which worked well. Overall the room was comfortable. The con: street noise was very loud,… Read more

I also needed to attend an on-line class during the evening, and opted to plug in downstairs, which worked well. Overall the room was comfortable. The con: street noise was very loud, even on the 5th floor, so guessing the windows were single paned. I’m an urban girl and usually don’t mind street noise, however our room was exceptionally noisy. Given the thin windows I probably wouldn’t stay here again. If they replaced the windows I wouldn’t think twice about booking in the future. Read less

The hotel was beautiful, the staff was exceptional and the safety protocols made us feel very safe. The location was perfect and convenient to anything you want to see and do in NYC. The neighborhood offers a lot of variety in restaurants and conveniences for anything you might need. I highly recommend.
