Shelburne Hotel & Suites by Affinia

Midtown, New York

The hotel

If you crave the Manhattan nights you’ve seen in the sit-coms, Shelburne NYC’s got it covered. Just head straight upstairs to Rare View: the archetypal summertime rooftop bar, its 5,000 square feet hold a chilled cocktail party vibe, five unique ‘rooms’ including the picnic patch and champagne garden, and 360 degree views taking in sights like the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Back downstairs, Rare Bar & Grill serves up gourmet burgers with twists like tequila-soaked beef, aged whisky slaw, or lobster tail. If you can bear to leave this infinitely trendy hotel, you’ll find you’re in a similarly trendy neighbourhood. But still be sure to keep in mind the complimentary evening wine hour.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great Stay at the Shelburne

I stay at the Shelburne whenever I am in NYC. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The service is outstanding and the location is great. My only regret is that I did not eat in the attached restaurant this time. I will stay there again and again.

Over the phone I was given wrong rates, shocking was that I paid more than I was told, added services you don't need for $45 a day that you are not told. Hotel had very few amenities, you pay for the use of the gym, you get a glass of wine at happy hour in the lobby, no real places to take a break, roof top bar open to whomever wants and if you go… Read more

Our double room with two double beds was spacious and clean. The upstairs corridors/lifts are a tad tired but the room was fine. Plenty of USB charging points including 2 by each bed. Despite some inevitable NYC traffic and siren noise we slept well, the beds are large and very comfortable. Room had air con and small fridge. Bathroom was good.… Read more

Despite some inevitable NYC traffic and siren noise we slept well, the beds are large and very comfortable. Room had air con and small fridge. Bathroom was good. Roof top bar was not open during weekday afternoons. There are diners, small convenience stores, coffee shops and local restaurants within 5 minute walk. Underground 10 minute walk, it felt like a safe neighbourhood, we walked to Times Square (20-25 mins) with our 9 and 11 year olds. For British readers, this is a better standard than a Premier Inn but with similar room size/layout. Read less

We spent 3 nights at the shelburne hotel and we’ll definitely come back! We arrived after we had a stupid accident during our twelve hours flight, my daughter get burned with hot tea on her leg and it was super painful; she get out of the plane in a wheelchair and it was quiet traumatic to begin our special trip like that. honestly we arrived at the hotel already pissed off by this incident and our room wasn’t ready... We were super tired and on our nerves, so we agreed to sleep in a room for disabled person, that was super awkward after the wheelchair arrival... the hotel manager insisted that it is just for the night and the day after he surprised us and upgraded us to a studio double queen beds room, high floor and nice view, it was super nice and we had a great time. All the staff was friendly and the location was super convenient! Read less
