Midtown, New York

The hotel

If you crave the Manhattan nights you’ve seen in the sit-coms, Shelburne NYC’s got it covered. Just head straight upstairs to Rare View: the archetypal summertime rooftop bar, its 5,000 square feet hold a chilled cocktail party vibe, five unique ‘rooms’ including the picnic patch and champagne garden, and 360 degree views taking in sights like the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Back downstairs, Rare Bar & Grill serves up gourmet burgers with twists like tequila-soaked beef, aged whisky slaw, or lobster tail. If you can bear to leave this infinitely trendy hotel, you’ll find you’re in a similarly trendy neighbourhood. But still be sure to keep in mind the complimentary evening wine hour.

Just wonderful in every way—The Front desk, the hotel room, hotel housekeeping, and the amenities are great; they take care of you—and RARE?—their restaurant? There should be a line❣️ Thank you and see you soon... Adrianne

No, Really. I seriously can't believe I just had this kind of customer experience in the year 2020. No, Really. I seriously can't believe I just had this kind of customer experience in the year 2020. The room they put me in had grainy, brown water coming out of the faucet and shower (pictures provided). The staff at the front desk didn’t know if this water was unhygienic or dangerous, but just said that they'll move me into a different hotel room - but the new room didn't have bathtub like I requested. So, they moved me into a third room....again with grainy, sickly brown/yellow water spewing out of the faucet and shower! I spoke to the manager Maurice (who refused to give me his last name) who was very aggressive and unapologetic. The hotel literally refuse to clean the tub, so I requested cleaning supplies, myself (I have pictures of me cleaning their hotel). Yes, I did their job for them and I cleaned the bathroom sink and tub as they were very gross after the water came out. Also, nobody came up to deliver me new room keys even after I asked them twice. Oh, and they also told me the water in the gym is the same. I had planned to go work out in the gym but obviously not touching anything else in this place, and will NEVER come back to this hotel again. All the friends and family in my network will be hearing about this experience. Read less

The hotel has a complimentary wine hour from 5-6 pm which is a nice touch after a long day of walking around. The staff was friendly. My daughter ordered room service and she said the food was good and came quickly. The cons: Beds not so comfortable and barely any pillows. We called the front desk for extra pillows but they never arrived. The bathroom has scarce amenities and not enough towels for 4 guests but we were able to get more from the housekeeper who happened to be in the hallway. Also, you can fully see into other people's windows from the room we were in so make sure you have the darkening shades down at all times if you don't want people to see into your room. Besides that we had a very nice stay! Read less

It doesn't hurt that I am writing this review from the lobby, sipping on a complimentary glass of wine. It doesn't hurt that I have plan to eat at Rare tonight, the restaurant on property and eat an amazing burger. The location of this hotel is fantastic because it's not right in the middle of the action, but everything is still in walking distance. The bars and restaurants just down the block on 3rd Avenue are great. Want NYC's best corned beef sandwich? Sarge's is a block away. Head down to the East Village, it's only a 20 minute walk. Times Square is about the same. Then there's the rooms. They are huge. Not by NYC standards, but by hotel standards. Great location for flying in and out of LGA. Less than 30 minutes off-peak. Finally, there is the customer service. Top notch. The front desk is incredibly helpful and friendly and the housekeeping staff is on top of everything. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to NY. Read less
