Midtown, New York

The hotel

If you crave the Manhattan nights you’ve seen in the sit-coms, Shelburne NYC’s got it covered. Just head straight upstairs to Rare View: the archetypal summertime rooftop bar, its 5,000 square feet hold a chilled cocktail party vibe, five unique ‘rooms’ including the picnic patch and champagne garden, and 360 degree views taking in sights like the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. Back downstairs, Rare Bar & Grill serves up gourmet burgers with twists like tequila-soaked beef, aged whisky slaw, or lobster tail. If you can bear to leave this infinitely trendy hotel, you’ll find you’re in a similarly trendy neighbourhood. But still be sure to keep in mind the complimentary evening wine hour.

All staff were lovely - reception, our maid service, the staff in the restaurant for our takeaway coffee, the staff serving the wine at the happy hour. We were there for a week and I loved having a coffee and reading the New York Times in the lobby each morning. You really contributed to my 40th and so glad we got there so thanks again and we will definitely return once things get back to some normality!! Read less

After about 30 min waiting, I noticed some bustle around the receptionist, valet parking people going in and out. I asked if my car is coming and they said all is OK. After other 20 min they told me the car has a flat tire and handed me the parking address. I asked for a ride and they brought an Uber. I worked to replace the wheel and run into some problems. I called the hotel receptionist and she told me to use my AAA or call for a towing service and pay for it myself. Finally, after 2 hours I managed to mount the spare tire and drove home. I took the wheel with the deflated tire to a mechanic and all was OK, just inflated and mounted it. Most likely it deflated when it hit the curb stone due to reckless driving. The day before I drove 4 hours from Massachusetts, and the car was all good when I gave it to the valet so it was all their responsibility. They drove wildly and then treated me horribly. The hotel receptionist told me to take the issue to the parking/valet service. This seems even more disgraceful as all is done through the hotel, their name is on the valet parking ticket. Read less

The staff took extra precautions to practice social distancing and ensure every room was sanitized properly. My stay ended when I had to leave abruptly to deploy to another assignment. In the midst of the rushed packing, I left my wedding band at the hotel. The hotel manager and staff quickly recovered my ring and shipped it to my home address. They followed up with me just to make sure I received it. Excellent customer service! I would definitely recommend this hotel. Read less

This hotel is amazing. Staff are extremely professional and friendly. Rooms are very spacious. Easy to travel around. Amazing view of the Empire State Building right outside the window. Thank you for all the staff members working through this crisis. Nothing really bad to say about this hotel at all.
