This typifies my experience of New York hotels with a reasonable lobby giving you the impression of something good but you will be very disappointed. This typifies my experience of New York hotels with a reasonable lobby giving you the impression of something good but you will be very disappointed. As I got into the lift which had a blanket covering a missing panel my heart sank and when I got to my floor I saw and smelt the familiar drabness and smells of somewhere which had seen no money spent on it for many years. The stale aroma of something similar to a gym locker permeates. Tired, drab, 70s brown and boring is the design philosophy in the rooms too with our suite having a slither of a balcony (photos on website are very deceptive). Bathroom is tiny for a suite but don’t worry this is the sort of classy hotel that has a bootle of water by your bedside with a price tag on it. It’s screams mediocrity and mundane at every level and these places just make you feel depressed and you simply want to go home. Service is the usual experience of a lot of greetings but not much else and room service is ridiculously expensive. There is no point in complaining since no one cares - just live with it all and wait for your departure or even better visit another city which has decent hotels at not ridiculous prices - unfortunately I was here for business so had little choice but the Benjamin will be bottom of my list of a fruitless search of a decent New York hotel ( I have tried the Affinia 50, Langham and the Omni Berkshire Place, all of which nearby but none of which were great albeit certainly better than this. I love everything about the Benjamin, the location, service, pillows, spacious suites and price. The doormen make you feel safe and at home, the National Restaurant is very good and the price point on a 1 bedroom suite is amazing. There is a little kitchen, so you can dine out and feel comfortable bringing home leftovers. I love everything… Read more

We’ve just had a very enjoyable four night stay at The Benjamin. Amazing location, we only took one cab during our entire stay! Roomwise, we were upgraded to a suite on the 4th floor, which actually suited my husband down to the ground as he hates heights! Good amenities, loved the kitchenette and Elemis products. There are a couple of great bakeries just down the block so we enjoyed a couple of breakfasts in bed (fab). Shower wasn’t great but I wondered if this is standard in NYC. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Huge shout out to Elias on the door, who came to our rescue when our transportation didn’t show. Great guy. I am so sad to write this. We stayed at The Benjamin years ago and remembered the beds being very comfortable. This was a 2 night birthday weekend. We were on the 17th floor and the entire floor smelled of food, specifically fish. The room smelled as well of food. The bed was hard as a rock, my shoulder kept falling asleep throughout the night.… Read more

We were on the 17th floor and the entire floor smelled of food, specifically fish. The room smelled as well of food. The bed was hard as a rock, my shoulder kept falling asleep throughout the night. Finally, the noise outside is so loud between construction and traffic, I barely slept. I was shocked that the windows were not sound proof given the location of the hotel. The best part of the rooms are the mini kitchens and the spaciousness, but that doesn’t make up for a terrible night sleep. I am going to get earplugs for the second night and I’m definitely not staying here again. Read less

We have stayed here several times and I love the location, is just behind the Waldorf Astoria located to everything you want to do. The rooms are a pleasant large for New York City and the rates are competitive. Will definitely be staying again
