The hotel

Thanks to a multi-million dollar makeover The Benjamin Hotel in Midtown Manhattan is looking hotter than ever and if you want to dive into a world of boutique luxury then right here is where you rip off the covers and get involved. Although the designs and modern touches are bang-up-to-date the level of customer commitment goes way back with pretty much 24-hr everything ranging from the front desk to the fitness room to the in-room spa and beauty services. The gourmet snack boxes alone will have you hungry for more and if you want a real taste of classic New York City style then check out The National Bar & Dining Rooms that's got grand café chic down to a tea. As The Benjamin Hotel stretches to almost 30 storeys there's no chance of getting lost in the city and as major attractions, such as the MET, the Empire State Building and Madison Avenue, are all just a few blocks away this is an excellent base to experience the best of the Big Apple. Finally, guest rooms have every box ticked with kitchenettes and mini-fridges ensuring you can definitely have your cake and eat it.

Nicely redone east side for walking and subway access. Rooms are small but very clean with everything you need (your not supposed to be in your room!) lobby staff very accommodating. Amenities are not obvious and categorized as a luxury hotel is a stretch.

I stayed for a week and booked a 1 BR suite. I was placed on the 9th floor and upon entering the room, I was sorely disappointed. Every piece of furniture had a stain. The blinds and carpet were stained. Shower curtain was dirty. Lights in the kitchenette and entry turned on like it was a 1950s horror movie. The shower head was seconds away from being detached from the wall. I checked the headboard and there were two huge stains where one might lay their head, and that was it for me. I went to complain and the staff were immediately conciliatory and offered to change my room. I visited suites on the 17th and 19th floor and chose the latter, which was actually pretty bright and in much better condition than the other one. The staff who showed me the room even remarked that higher floors are better because they get less use. I had some billing issues in that they placed two holds on my credit card, which effectively locked it up for a month. I tried to resolve this by speaking with the manager several times but got nowhere so I just waited for it to drop off. I know pre-auth is a practice but a double charge was really annoying. Moreover, they overcharged me so I'm pretty sure getting that resolved will be a hassle. Other points: - bathroom is dated; toiletries average - gym faces a wall and it's really dark there; equipment is largely cardio - no mini bar or bottled water in the room - everything is extra (but there is coffee) The staff were lovely and I felt bad that they probably get a fair number of complaints about the state of the hotel but aren't able to do much about it. If you need to be in midtown, it's an excellent location and very walkable. If your expectation is a luxury service, you will be sorely disappointed because there is nothing luxury about this hotel. Given the quality of the room and the lack of perks, it's more like a 3 star. But if you lower your expectations you might be satisfied. Read less

The suite had a full kitchenette (with sink, microwave, full refrigerator and freezer, dishes, etc), and a seperate living room and bedroom, both of which were comfortable, tastefully appointed and a nice size. The staff at the hotel was stellar - everyone was warm and provided great service. I especially liked the bellhops - each of the gentlemen who assisted us during our stay were super-friendly and helpful. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable weekend for us that I can't wait to go back. Read less

Stayed with family end of June 2021. We originally booked a room with 2 queen beds but upon our arrival, AJ at the front desk noticed we had a large party, including a cat, and multiple bags. He offered to upgrade us to a suite with living room and separate bedroom at no additional cost. He even accommodated a late check out. Overall, staying at… Read more

We stayed in a king suite for one night and were disappointed to find a used qtip and tissue sitting on the bathroom floor upon arrival, threadbare stained carpet, stained, dirty upholstery, and mold in the shower and curtain. Despite the professional staff, this hotel is not worth the close to $500 / night. We would have done much better with a… Read more
