Midnight checkin was well staffed with doorman and pleasant reception. Room was adequate but expected nicer amenities. Comfortable bed with lots of pillows and well stocked minibar. Gym with 2 peloton bikes, but limited weights. Speedy checkout. Convenient location to Midtown and Flatiron.

I have been staying at The James, formerly The Carlton Hotel, for business for the last nine years. The incredible service we have received from Al Bido, in particular, and so many of the women in housekeeping -- many of whom have been with the hotel since before it was The James -- is one of the key reasons we come back year after year. The entire James staff provides a warm, welcoming experience from the moment we arrive – from Manny, Miguel, and Danny at the door, to the folks at the front desk, and Al and his team throughout our stay. The James is a wonderful hotel, in and of itself, but its staff is what makes it our first choice every time. Read less

This Hotel is in the Flatiron District and very easy to reach many major attractions and restaurants nearby. It is quite easy to walk from here through out Manhattan. We have stayed here a number of times and find the staff excellent for what ever your needs. There are many choices in NYC, this is one of the better.

Charming, but overpriced. Nice old hotel, and like many old hotels, the rooms are small, but tastefully appointed. Beware if the "resort fee". If you are not ware of this little addition to your bill, you will be in for a big surprise.
