Mondrian Park Avenue

New York, USA

The hotel

Sleek, sophisticated and bold, it’s easy to see why the Mondrian Park Avenue was named in Conde Nast’s ‘Best 25 hotels in New York City’ in 2019. Overlooking Park Avenue, you can sit and watch the world go by in the rooftop lounge (drink in hand, of course). Wake up to the sights and sounds of the Big Apple from the comfort of your room, and enjoy a morning yoga class, run twice a week. After the sun sets, you can enjoy some Mediterranean-inspired food in the restaurant, or make your way to the hidden lounge bar to enjoy some live music or a DJ set. And when you’re ready to go out exploring, you’re just a few block from some of NYC’s top assets.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Only Decent if you get a suite - even largest regular room is claustrophobic

In summer, I stayed in a suite at the Mondrian, which was decent, if a tad on the small side for a suite (with limited closet space, but since I was there in summer without coats and boots, it wasn't an issue). In summer, I stayed in a suite at the Mondrian, which was decent, if a tad on the small side for a suite (with limited closet space, but since I was there in summer without coats and boots, it wasn't an issue). In fall, I returned and opted for the largest size regular room -- the Premier King, which is allegedly 375 square feet. The Premier King looks nothing like the picture on the website and is actually claustrophobic, with nowhere to work and nowhere to put a large suitcase. I was so surprised by the size of the room that I went down to the front desk since I assumed there must have been a mistake and I wasn't given the category of room I booked. The desk clerk claimed I was in the correct room and allowed that perhaps some Premier King rooms are larger than others. I can only imagine what the smaller rooms are like. The bathroom in this room was also so narrow that the only way I can describe it is that when you were sitting on the toilet you felt like you were in a MRI machine. You really have to shimmy in. I personally would never stay at this hotel again unless I could get a suite. If you are the kind of person who travels without luggage and who is never in your room when in New York City and just wants a place to sleep, your mileage may vary. As per my prior review, the location is nice and it is fairly quiet. Read less

Fantastic location, brilliant staff and all round very happy with the experience. Could do with room service upgrade, but when you have Uber Eats who cares! Only criticism is the bars close way too early, like 10pm to 10:30pm (this needs sorting ASAP) - other than that great stay - we only chose as we couldn’t get into another hotel, but had… Read more

Only criticism is the bars close way too early, like 10pm to 10:30pm (this needs sorting ASAP) - other than that great stay - we only chose as we couldn’t get into another hotel, but had frequented the Miami Mondrian and so for me, my wife and 11 year old daughter was great. Would def stay here again! Read less

Without wanting to go into much detail, I made a direct booking for which I did not receive any confirmation. Since then I called 5 times to ask for it. Each time they assured me they would send it and that my email was spelled wrong. Each time I would give it again like a moron spelling my name again and again. Then during the last time they did send me the confirmation which was a completely different number from the one I was told over the first phone call and much higher prices. I communicated as again via mail to ask for correct confirmation and received no reply. In the end I called one last time to cancel my reservation. That phone call lasted one hour and six minutes. Seriously I can not explain the frustration. During the last one hour call I asked the agent to email me confirming that there are no pending reservations to my name and she agreed to do this but ofcourse she didn't. If my credit card gets charged, I will follow a legal route. This is a five star hotel. This is not a proper customer service. I since booked with another hotel and I have received the confirmation and everything. Such frustration. Read less

I’d like to give a Special shoutout to the manager, Antonetta for always going the extra mile to make my stay special! No matter how busy the hotel gets, the team always take care of you! For me, The Mondrian Park Avenue is actually a New York landmark and beats with the life of the finest city in the world. In a city that has fabulous hotels, I don’t think I can stay anywhere else.
