New York Marriott East Side

New York, USA

The hotel

Built in 1924, this Midtown hotel is something of a gem in New York, combining classic 'old Manhattan' style with stylish contemporary décor. It's also the place where Houdini performed a daring escape from a locked box in the pool! Not that you'll want to escape, as it's supremely comfortable with a fantastic range of amenities. Then again, Fifth Avenue is just a stroll away.

Picked this hotel as a family get away. I am Plantiumn Elite and stay many nights at Marriotts. This is the worst experience in my many nights at Marriotts. Picked this hotel as a family get away. I am Plantiumn Elite and stay many nights at Marriotts. This is the worst experience in my many nights at Marriotts. The so called double beds are not even double beds. Two adults can not sleep in them. They have a so called resort fee which they claim you can use $25 at the bar. You can’t order even two drinks for that. So if you want one drink a day it may cover it. They add a service charge to each thing bought in the bar even if it is only three people. They claim everyone does this in NY. Never seen this in my many nights of travel. They claim they are full service but no room service which I don’t care about. The rooms are dated and service is very condescending. If this was a nice upscale hotel I would expect that, but this is an old Marriott in an ok location thinking tourists don’t know better. Went to the concierge‘s lounge and honestly forgot I could only have two people. I normally travel for work without family. So my young daughter who ate very little was charged $35 plus tax of course for mediocre breakfast. If you pick this hotel be prepared for some nasty surprises at check out and no sleep in the so called “double” beds. And just smug managers when you ask for explanations. There are far better choices in this city. Read less

I have stayed here a few times. Rooms where ok but small as expected for NY. I arrived after midnight hoping to get some sleep. Didn't happen. Everyone expect non stop sirens, honking and trash pick all evening. The windows do nothing to lower the sounds of the city. Bring ear plugs!!!!!!!

The location is the main upside to this hotel. The hotel is dated - need some serious updates. The rooms were as clean as they could be. There is a small cafe type restaurant, but it isn’t a full restaurant- no room service. The staff were good and helped. I thought it odd that a full service Marriott didn’t offer umbrellas, but one of… Read more

You guys are at best a 2* standard hotel and not a 4*. We are still a guest at this hotel and I am so annoyed that I felt like writing this review even before checking out. Nobody would expect a 4 star hotel not to have any room service. Also while you book a room at The Marriott you don’t expect it not to have room service. I called their at your… Read more

Nobody would expect a 4 star hotel not to have any room service. Also while you book a room at The Marriott you don’t expect it not to have room service. I called their at your service extension to request them to send me 4 bottles of water and they said they could not even do that because they don’t provide that service. This is absolutely ridiculous. They have one bar downstairs in the lobby and they close for 4 hours in the afternoon so what does one do when they are thirsty during those hours? Read less

The hotel is nice. There are a lot of things to do both inside and outside the hotel. The concierge was helpful. The two negative points are in the bar/dining area there aren’t a lot of food choices. The second was that there was no hot water during our stay. Found out they shut off the water and didn’t notify the people staying in the hotel. I… Read more
