New York Marriott East Side

New York, USA

The hotel

Built in 1924, this Midtown hotel is something of a gem in New York, combining classic 'old Manhattan' style with stylish contemporary décor. It's also the place where Houdini performed a daring escape from a locked box in the pool! Not that you'll want to escape, as it's supremely comfortable with a fantastic range of amenities. Then again, Fifth Avenue is just a stroll away.

Incredibly shocked at how bad this room is. Door frames are being held up by tape and there’s a hole in the ceiling. And a great view of a brick wall!!! The only decent thing about this hotel is the location... otherwise avoid it. Marriott should be embarrassed.

This was my "go to" hotel for a few years. Its been some time (about 12 years) since stayed stayed at the Marriott East Side, but I remember my family having a wonderful stay there. The staff is great. they are friendly and engaging - from the time you check in until you say goodbye, the people were wonderful. But the building and rooms are showing some serious wear and tear. Everything is dark and outdated. the elevators are slow, and the bar/restaurant can use a serious upgrade. The room was nice, but the TV during the evening hours would glitch every few minutes. The remote didn't turn the channels. The bed was comfortable, but the lighting needs to be upgraded. On the positive side, the air conditioner was very quiet so it will not wake you in the middle of the evening. It was OK for one evening. The location was nice. Read less

Manhattan has lot of hotels and apartments, stay somewhere else. Firstly, because of the elevators, one day I just waited for 20 f.... minutes until they arrive. No one care, the stuff couldn’t or wouldn’t try to fix or even try to apologize for the inconvenience. Second, because they don’t care. Third, due to the gym situation- old, dusty and out… Read more

All in all - old fashioned rooms, no service and basically nothing to write home about. Go somewhere else Read less

Location is great, centrally located to so much, and easy to get around. The hotel is very dated and needs a renovation. The housekeeping team does a good job at keeping it clean. The staff was very disappointing compared to staff at other NY Marriott properties; very unfriendly. Once I told the bellman that I did not need help with my small suitcase he was very annoyed and would not assist in any way, even when I asked for directions. He just leaned up against the stair and looked at his phone. Like many other reviews, the elevators are small and do take forever, luckily I was on a lower floor so I was able to take advantage of the stairs. The bar is fine, nothing memorable. I wouldn't book another stay at this specific Marriott. Read less
