Park Hyatt New York

Midtown, New York

The hotel

Rocking a prime pitch in Midtown Manhattan, the super-sleek Park Hyatt New York overlooks Carnegie Hall and is mere moments from the escapism of Central Park. You don’t have to step outside for escapism though, with its 25th floor virtually taken over by Spa Nalai, the 24-hour fitness hub, and the chic lap pool. You don’t have to step outside to hear the sounds of neighbouring Carnegie Hall either, with the pool’s underwater speakers playing highlights from past performances. You can gaze out over the musical mecca while sipping cocktails in The Living Room, before heading to Bevy to taste its inventive American menu – or before one of the exclusive Masters of Food & Wine events. More like Manhattan apartments than hotel rooms, you’ll find every bell and whistle, from complimentary WiFi to a TV in the bathroom mirror.

This is a really nice property located directly across the street from Carnegie Hall. Rooms are well appointed and spacious for NYC. I wish I could say the same about the service. We were there for 4 days and other than the various doormen, no one actually took the time to make eye contact. The greetings were stale and forced from every team member we encountered. I was particularly annoyed by the concierge service; they have a separate area beyond the desk and couldn't be bothered to acknowledge their guests. My daughter had a massage scheduled for 9:00 am one morning. She goes up to the spa at 8:40 (as requested) in order to change and be ready for her appointment. The door is locked, no one is anywhere around to ask. She comes back to the room and I call to inquire. I was told somewhat curtly that they "open" at 9:00. When you are paying for a premium service, especially one that is charged by increments of time and you are asked to arrive "early" I do not think it is unreasonable to expect someone to be there when you arrive at the appointed time??? In addition to this, we ordered room service several times. The food is plentiful and service is friendly and right on time. We ordered a late lunch one afternoon and literally only took a few bites, thinking we would enjoy it later in the evening after returning from a show. We arrived back around midnight and the food cart had been taken with turn down service, even though I had left a note requesting it be left. Again, I called the concierge service and before I could even finish speaking, I was interrupted with the "it's policy spiel" and I could order from a limited menu if I wished to replace my food. I guess they thought I was requesting they replace the food free of charge (which I wasn't) but for the amount we spent for four days, it would have been a nice gesture. We ended up simply going to bed. There are far too many choices in the city for a property to treat guests this way. As I said, the property is lovely and well maintained. I simply felt "unwelcome" and will look elsewhere for lodging when in the city. Read less

This is THE place to stay. We decided to stay with our family to have a central location, pool amenity and spacious room. Park Hyatt checked every box and then some. We're hoping we can do this again every year during our Feb break.

It is definitely the quality you would expect for the price. Read less

One of the best experiences I’ve had in a hotel. Great location and staff, luxurious surroundings, and a wonderful night’s rest. The shower is worth the price of admission alone! My wife got to experience the best of the city on her first trip to New York, and the Park Hyatt was like a big bow on the whole trip. We will be back.

My wife and I have stayed at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, and Toronto (before renovations), and we were looking forward to our stay at one of the top-rated hotels in the world. Maybe that's where we messed up. Like any constructive review, there were good things about this hotel. We drove up from Philly and the valet was quick and easy. So was check in. Everyone was friendly and attentive. So far so good. We got upgraded because we have Explorist status and the room was very nice, especially the bathroom with the stand-alone tub. My wife was conducting surveys for work, so I was on baby duty (we have a 1-year old). That meant I was planning on ordering a lot of room service. We ordered dinner that night and although the food was good, it wasn't great. The service was good, but it wasn't great. There's a theme I'm trying to outline here. Everything about this hotel is good, but it isn't great. Why should it be great? Because the price is exorbitant to say the least. We booked this trip on points...so we earned it. But the bill still came out to be over $500USD for three days. This included parking, room service once, and dining in the restaurant twice. I believe it's the only Hyatt in New York City with a pool, but the pool was frigid and the jacuzzi was mild. I wanted to spend a good 2-3 hours there with my baby. Instead, we were there for maybe 30 minutes. They do have Pelotons there, which is great, but they don't have daycare, so for people with kids, it's moot. (If they did, there was no one there when I went). Then, when we went to check out, we called for a luggage cart to bring all our suitcases down and for our car in valet. Instead, they sent up a luggage rack. The bellhop (do they still call them that?) said they would be back with the cart but after 15 minutes we had to call again and were notified he never told them of the mixup. The cart finally came after another 10 minutes. Then we waited another ½ hour for the car (almost an hour) even though they said it would take 30 minutes to retrieve. The desk then informs us that the person who originally took our call NEVER CALLED FOR THE CAR! They did end up taking one day's fee ($70) off the parking charge. But it just added to the negligence and not-so-good experience of our stay. We are not only Hyatt Explorists, but also Residence owners in Maui. We love Hyatt, so naturally, we had very high (but not unreachable) expectations for this particular hotel. We were unimpressed. Read less
