Park Hyatt New York

New York, USA

The hotel

Rocking a prime pitch in Midtown Manhattan, the super-sleek Park Hyatt New York overlooks Carnegie Hall and is mere moments from the escapism of Central Park. You don’t have to step outside for escapism though, with its 25th floor virtually taken over by Spa Nalai, the 24-hour fitness hub, and the chic lap pool. You don’t have to step outside to hear the sounds of neighbouring Carnegie Hall either, with the pool’s underwater speakers playing highlights from past performances. You can gaze out over the musical mecca while sipping cocktails in The Living Room, before heading to Bevy to taste its inventive American menu – or before one of the exclusive Masters of Food & Wine events. More like Manhattan apartments than hotel rooms, you’ll find every bell and whistle, from complimentary WiFi to a TV in the bathroom mirror.

Simply, all of our hotel stays will be compared to our stays at the Park Hyatt New York. It was our first experience in the area and with the Park Hyatt brand a couple of years ago, and we have come back now and have had an even better time (and we came into it with very high expectations). Those high expectations were surpassed. Our most recent stay was for my wife's birthday. I reached out to the guest relations before we made the trip and mentioned the occasion, as well as inquiry about a keepsake or two to bring back. Karina (who is the Front Desk Manager and a special person who represents the excellence of this location) responded, and went above and beyond. There was a beautiful cake and truffles from the restaurant, champagne, and the most thoughtful selection of gifts (and a hand-written note which was such a nice touch). The first time we stayed here a couple of years ago, there was a nice cake and water (which were also great). This time the thoughtfulness and gifts were on another level (thank you Karina!). We also noticed the staff were much more engaged, attentive, and organized than last time (2 years ago), and clearly there are some changes there that have pushed an excellent location to another tier. Also, we were there during a power outage in mid-town Manhattan one evening. We made our way back to the hotel, and saw that the block was out of power so were mentally prepared to sit outside in the heat like we saw guests of other hotels (including high end ones) doing as we walked back. To our surprise, the Park Hyatt had air conditioning, elevators, and basic lights throughout. This is another example of how exceptional (even compared to other top hotels) the facilities are at the Park Hyatt NYC. Overall it was a wonderful stay: 1) Complimentary upgrade to a huge deluxe king room that was on the 17th floor with a great view of Carnegie Hall and the exciting crowds of NYC. 2) The air was extremely clean and well filtered. Also, the bed is the most comfortable we’ve ever experienced (even at other high end hotels). 3) Everything was immaculate and exquisitely maintained. Also, the room was very well sound insulated and the drapes kept things darkened when closed (even with floor-to-ceiling windows). Also, the hallways have cushion and the walls/doors are extremely thick--so it is very quiet. 4) The huge bathroom with heated floors, rainforest shower, and huge soaking tub (not to mention in mirror TV) was unbelievable. And, the towels and robes were very high quality. 5) We did not use the valet this time, which was the only negative from last time (confusion with the parking lot, etc.). Given the changes in how the staff seem to be and organization, I'm assuming this has been improved or corrected (but make sure to check about wait times, etc. if in a rush). 6) Almost, every staff member we encountered was extremely helpful, introduced themselves, and genuinely seemed to care. 7) Dining--the restaurant was comfortable and quiet, and served delicious options for dinner one night. And, we tried room service for breakfast and it was phenomenal (including the Japanese breakfast option which my wife really enjoyed). The person came to the room, set the table/cart up with chairs right in front of the huge wall of windows overlooking the skyline and activity below, and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in our robes and the cool room while watching the hustle and bustle of NYC. 8) The pool, steam room, and hot tub on the 25th floor is one thing that sets this hotel apart from anywhere else in NYC. Words don't do it justice--it's such a beautiful and comfortable environment. The best way to describe the Park Hyatt NYC is as a destination. We do enjoy the sights and sounds of New York, and there is a lot to do. But, we realized that the hotel is also a destination and we’re as happy just to relax there. In some ways, we found ourselves coming to New York FOR the Park Hyatt, instead of coming to the Park Hyatt for New York. That may sound hard to believe, but we like it that much (and we’ve tried a lot of hotels of various levels in the area). Our stay at the Park Hyatt New York has converted me to a Hyatt loyalist also and we will look to stay within the franchise a lot more in the future (for both business and pleasure trips). Read less

Wonderful hotel. Perfect location and outstanding services. The rooms are perfect and with a lot of space. It is by no means a cheap hotel but it is value for money. Besides, there is complimentary Nespresso coffee in the room.
